2 Timoteo 1

1 Paolo, apostolo di Cristo Gesù per volontà di Dio, secondo la promessa della vita che è in Cristo Gesù,

This letter comes from Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus chosen by God, sent to tell about the promise of real life that is in Christ Jesus.

2 a Timoteo, mio diletto figliuolo, grazia, misericordia, pace da Dio Padre e da Cristo Gesù nostro Signore.

I'm sending it to you Timothy, my dear son. May you have grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 Io rendo grazie a Dio, il quale servo con pura coscienza, come l’han servito i miei antenati, ricordandomi sempre di te nelle mie preghiere giorno e notte,

I'm always thinking of you and I'm so thankful to God, whom I serve as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience. I never forget to mention you in my prayers.

4 bramando, memore come sono delle tue lacrime, di vederti per esser ricolmo d’allegrezza.

I remember how you cried, and I so want to see you! That would make me really happy.

5 Io ricordo infatti la fede non finta che è in te, la quale abitò prima della tua nonna Loide e nella tua madre Eunice, e, son persuaso, abita in te pure.

I keep in mind your sincere trust in God, the same trust that your grandmother Lois and mother Eunice also had—and I know that same trust continues in you.

6 Per questa ragione ti ricordo di ravvivare il dono di Dio che è in te per la imposizione delle mie mani.

That's why I want to remind you to revitalize God's gracious gift to you which you received when I placed my hands on you.

7 Poiché Iddio ci ha dato uno spirito non di timidità, ma di forza e d’amore e di correzione.

God didn't give us a spirit that makes us fearful, but a spirit of power and love and good sense.

8 Non aver dunque vergogna della testimonianza del Signor nostro, né di me che sono in catene per lui; ma soffri anche tu per l’Evangelo, sorretto dalla potenza di Dio;

So don't be ashamed to tell others about our Lord, or be ashamed of me. Instead be ready to share in suffering for the good news as God gives you strength.

9 il quale ci ha salvati e ci ha rivolto una sua santa chiamata, non secondo le nostre opere, ma secondo il proprio proponimento e la grazia che ci è stata fatta in Cristo Gesù avanti i secoli, (aiōnios g166)

He is the one who has saved us and called us to live a holy life—not through what we do, but by God's own plan and through his grace. (aiōnios g166)

10 ma che è stata ora manifestata coll’apparizione del Salvator nostro Cristo Gesù, il quale ha distrutto la morte e ha prodotto in luce la vita e l’immortalità mediante l’Evangelo,

He gave this grace to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, and is now revealed in the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus. He destroyed death, making life and immortality brilliantly clear through the good news.

11 in vista del quale io sono stato costituito banditore ed apostolo e dottore.

I was appointed speaker, apostle, and teacher of this good news.

12 Ed è pure per questa cagione che soffro queste cose; ma non me ne vergogno, perché so in chi ho creduto, e son persuaso ch’egli è potente da custodire il mio deposito fino a quel giorno.

That's also the reason I'm suffering all this, but I'm not ashamed, because I know whom I've trusted. I'm confident that he can look after what I've entrusted to him until the Day he returns.

13 Attienti con fede e con l’amore che è in Cristo Gesù al modello delle sane parole che udisti da me.

You should follow the model of good advice that you learned from me, with an attitude of trust and love in Christ Jesus.

14 Custodisci il buon deposito per mezzo dello Spirito Santo che abita in noi.

Guard the truth that was entrusted to you through the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

15 Tu sai questo: che tutti quelli che sono in Asia mi hanno abbandonato; fra i quali, Figello ed Ermogene.

You already know that everyone from Asia has abandoned me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

16 Conceda il Signore misericordia alla famiglia d’Onesiforo, poiché egli m’ha spesse volte confortato e non si è vergognato della mia catena;

May the Lord be kind to the family of Onesiphorus, because he often took care of me and wasn't embarrassed about me being in prison.

17 anzi, quando è venuto a Roma, mi ha cercato premurosamente e m’ha trovato.

When he was in Rome, he took the trouble to search for me, and he found me.

18 Gli conceda il Signore di trovar misericordia presso il Signore in quel giorno; e quanti servigi egli abbia reso in Efeso tu sai molto bene.

May the Lord grant him his blessing in the Day of Judgment. (Timothy, you're very much aware of how much Onesiphorus did for me when he was in Ephesus.)
