1 Samuele 27
1 Or Davide disse in cuor suo: “Un giorno o l’altro io perirò per le mani di Saul; non v’è nulla di meglio per me che rifugiarmi nel paese dei Filistei, in guisa che Saul, perduta ogni speranza, finisca di cercarmi per tutto il territorio d’Israele; così scamperò dalle sue mani”.
David said in his heart, “I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So I will escape out of his hand.”
2 Davide dunque si levò, e coi seicento uomini che avea seco, si recò da Akis figlio di Maoc, re di Gath.
David arose and passed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 E Davide dimorò con Akis a Gath, egli e la sua gente, ciascuno con la sua famiglia. Davide avea seco le sue due mogli: Ahinoam, la Izreelita, e Abigail, la Carmelita, ch’era stata moglie di Nabal.
David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
4 E Saul, informato che Davide era fuggito Gath, non si diè più a cercarlo.
Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, so he stopped looking for him.
5 Davide disse ad Akis: “Se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, siami dato in una delle città della campagna un luogo dove io possa stabilirmi; e perché il tuo servo dimorerebb’egli con te nella città reale?”
David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”
6 Ed Akis, in quel giorno, gli diede Tsiklag; perciò Tsiklag ha appartenuto ai re di Giuda fino al dì d’oggi.
Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day.
7 Or il tempo che Davide passò nel paese dei Filistei fu di un anno e quattro mesi.
The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
8 E Davide e la sua gente salivano e facevano delle scorrerie nel paese dei Gheshuriti, dei Ghirziti e degli Amalekiti; poiché queste popolazioni abitavano da tempi antichi il paese, dal lato di Shur fino al paese d’Egitto.
David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land who were of old, on the way to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.
9 E Davide devastava il paese, non vi lasciava in vita né uomo né donna, e pigliava pecore, buoi, asini, cammelli e indumenti; poi se ne tornava e andava da Akis.
David struck the land, and saved no man or woman alive, and took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned, and came to Achish.
10 Akis domandava: “Dove avete fatto la scorreria quest’oggi?” E Davide rispondeva: “Verso il mezzogiorno di Giuda, verso il mezzogiorno degli Jerahmeeliti e verso il mezzogiorno dei Kenei”.
Achish said, “Against whom have you made a raid today?” David said, “Against the South of Judah, against the South of the Jerahmeelites, and against the South of the Kenites.”
11 E Davide non lasciava in vita né uomo né donna per menarli a Gath, poiché diceva: “Potrebbero parlare contro di noi e dire: Così ha fatto Davide”. Questo fu il suo modo d’agire tutto il tempo che dimorò nel paese dei Filistei.
David saved neither man nor woman alive to bring them to Gath, saying, “Lest they should tell about us, saying, ‘David did this, and this has been his way all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”
12 Ed Akis avea fiducia in Davide e diceva: “Egli si rende odioso a Israele, suo popolo; e così sarà mio servo per sempre”.
Achish believed David, saying, “He has made his people Israel utterly to abhor him. Therefore he will be my servant forever.”
