1 Figliuoli di Giuda: Perets, Hetsron, Carmi, Hur e Shobal.

The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron and Carmi and Hur and Shobal.

2 Reaia figliuolo di Shobal, generò Jahath; Jahath generò Ahumai e Lahad. Queste sono le famiglie degli Tsorathei.

And Reaiah, the son of Shobal, was the father of Jahath; and Jahath was the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.

3 Questi furono i discendenti del padre di Etham: Jzreel, Jshma e Jdbash; la loro sorella si chiamava Hatselelponi.

And these were the sons of Hur, the father of Etam: Jezreel and Ishma and Idbash, and the name of their sister was Hazzelelponi;

4 Penuel fu padre di Ghedor; ed Ezer, padre di Husha. Questi sono i figliuoli di Hur, primogenito di Efrata, padre di Bethlehem.

And Penuel, the father of Gedor, and Ezer, the father of Hushah. These are the sons of Hur, the oldest son of Ephrathah, the father of Beth-lehem.

5 Ashhur, padre di Tekoa, ebbe due mogli: Helea e Naara.

And Ashhur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

6 Naara gli partorì Ahuzam, Hefer, Themeni ed Ahashtari.

And Naarah had Ahuzzam by him, and Hepher and Temeni and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.

7 Questi sono i figliuoli di Naara. Figliuoli di Helea: Tsereth, Tsohar ed Ethnan.

And the sons of Helah were Zereth, Izhar and Ethnan.

8 Kotz generò Anub, Hatsobeba, e le famiglie di Aharhel, figliuolo di Harum.

And Koz was the father of Anub and Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.

9 Jabets fu più onorato dei suoi fratelli; sua madre gli avea messo nome Jabets, perché, diceva, “l’ho partorito con dolore”.

And Jabez was honoured more than his brothers; but his mother had given him the name Jabez, saying, Because I gave birth to him with sorrow.

10 Jabets invocò l’Iddio d’Israele, dicendo: “Oh se tu mi benedicessi e allargassi i miei confini, e se la tua mano fosse meco e se tu mi preservassi dal male in guisa ch’io non avessi da soffrire!” E Dio gli concedette quello che avea chiesto.

And Jabez made a prayer to the God of Israel, saying, If only you would truly give me a blessing, and make wider the limits of my land, and let your hand be with me, and keep me from evil, so that I may not be troubled by it! And God gave him his desire.

11 Kelub, fratello di Shuha generò Mehir, che fu padre di Eshton.

And Chelub, the brother of Shuhah, was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.

12 Eshton generò Beth-Rafa, Paseah e Tehinna, padre di Ir-Nahash. Questa è la gente di Zeca.

And Eshton was the father of Bethrapha and Paseah and Tehinnah, the father of Ir-nahash. These are the men of Recah.

13 Figliuoli di Kenaz: Othniel e Seraia. Figliuoli di Othniel: Hathath.

And the sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah; and the sons of Othniel: Hathath.

14 Meonothai generò Ofra. Seraia generò Joab, padre degli abitanti la valle degli artigiani, perché erano artigiani.

And Meonothai was the father of Ophrah; and Seraiah was the father of Joab, the father of Ge-harashim; they were expert workmen.

15 Figliuoli di Caleb figliuolo di Gefunne: Iru, Ela e Naam, i figliuoli d’Ela e Kenaz.

And the sons of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and the son of Elah: Kenaz.

16 Figliuoli di Jehallelel: Zif, Zifa, Thiria ed Asareel.

And the sons of Jehallelel: Ziph and Ziphah, Tiria and Asarel.

17 Figliuoli di Esdra: Jether, Mered, Efer e Jalon. La moglie di Mered partorì Miriam, Shammai ed Ishbah, padre di Eshtemoa.

And the sons of Ezrah: Jether and Mered and Epher and Jalon; and these are the sons of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, the wife of Mered. And she became the mother of Miriam and Shammai and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa.

18 L’altra sua moglie, la Giudea, partorì Jered, padre di Ghedor, Heber, padre di Soco e Jekuthiel, padre di Zanoah. Quelli nominati prima eran figliuoli di Bithia, figliuola di Faraone che Mered avea presa per moglie.

And his wife, a woman of the tribe of Judah, became the mother of Jered, the father of Gedor, and Heber, the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel, the father of Zanoah.

19 Figliuoli della moglie di Hodija, sorella di Naham: il padre di Kehila, il Garmeo, ed Eshtemoa, il Maacatheo.

And the sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the father of Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maacathite.

20 Figliuoli di Scimon: Amnon, Rinna, Benhanan e Tilon. Figliuoli di Isci: Zozeth e Ben-Zoeth.

And the sons of Shimon: Amnon and Rinnah, Ben-hanan and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi: Zoheth; and the son of Zoheth. ...

21 Figliuoli di Scela, figliuolo di Giuda: Er, padre di Leca, Lada, padre di Maresha, e le famiglie della casa dove si lavora il bisso di Beth-Ashbea e Jokim,

The sons of Shelah, the son of Judah: Er, the father of Lecah, and Laadah, the father of Mareshah, and the families of those who made delicate linen, of the family of Ashbea;

22 e la gente di Cozeba, e Joas, e Saraf, che signoreggiarono su Moab, e Jashubi-Lehem. Ma queste son cose d’antica data.

And Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash and Saraph, who were rulers in Moab, and went back to Beth-lehem. And the records are very old.

23 Erano de’ vasai e stavano a Netaim e a Ghederah; stavano quivi presso al re per lavorare al suo servizio.

These were the potters, and the people living among planted fields with walls round them; they were there to do the king's work.

24 Figliuoli di Simeone: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Saul,

The sons of Simeon: Nemuel and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul;

25 ch’ebbe per figliuolo Shallum, ch’ebbe per figliuolo Mibsam, ch’ebbe per figliuolo Mishma.

Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.

26 Figliuoli di Mishma: Hammuel, ch’ebbe per figliuolo Zaccur, ch’ebbe per figliuolo Scimei.

And the sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son.

27 Scimei ebbe sedici figliuoli e sei figliuole; ma i suoi fratelli non ebbero molti figliuoli; e le loro famiglie non si moltiplicarono quanto quelle dei figliuoli di Giuda.

And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers had only a small number of children, and their family was not as fertile as the children of Judah.

28 Si stabilirono a Beer-Sceba, a Molada, ad Hatsar-Shual,

And they were living at Beer-sheba and Moladah and Hazar-shual,

29 a Bilha, ad Etsem, a Tolad,

And at Bilhah, and at Ezem, and at Tolad,

30 a Bethuel, ad Horma, a Tsiklag,

And at Bethuel, and at Hormah, and at Ziklag,

31 a Beth-Marcaboth, ad Hatsar-Susim, a Beth-Biri ed a Shaaraim. Queste furono le loro città, fino al regno di Davide.

And at Beth-marcaboth, and at Hazarsusim, and at Beth-biri, and at Shaaraim. These were their towns till David became king.

32 Aveano pure i villaggi di Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Token ed Ashan: cinque terre,

And their small towns were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen and Ashan, five towns;

33 e tutti i villaggi ch’erano nei dintorni di quelle città, fino a Baal. Queste furono le loro dimore, ed essi aveano le loro genealogie.

And all the small places round these towns, as far as Baalath-beer, the high place of the South. These were their living-places, and they have lists of their generations.

34 Meshobab, Jamlec, Josha, figliuolo di Amatsia,

And Meshobab and Jamlech and Joshah, the son of Amaziah,

35 Joel, Jehu, figliuolo di Joscibia, figliuolo di Seraia, figliuolo di Asiel,

And Joel and Jehu, the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,

36 Elioenai, Jaakoba, Jeshohaia, Asaia, Adiel, Jesimiel,

And Elioenai and Jaakobah and Jeshohaiah and Asaiah and Adiel and Jesimiel and Benaiah,

37 Benaia, Ziza, figliuolo di Scifi, figliuolo di Allon, figliuolo di Jedaia, figliuolo di Scimri, figliuolo di Scemaia,

And Ziza, the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah;

38 questi uomini, enumerati per nome, erano principi nelle loro famiglie, e le loro case patriarcali si accrebbero grandemente.

These, whose names are given, were chiefs in their families, and their families became very great in number.

39 Andarono dal lato di Ghedor, fino ad oriente della valle, in cerca di pasture per i loro bestiami.

And they went to the opening into Gedor, as far as the east side of the valley, in search of grass-land for their flocks.

40 Trovarono pasture grasse e buone, e un paese vasto, quieto e tranquillo; poiché quelli che lo abitavano prima erano discendenti di Cam.

And they came to some good fertile grass-land, in a wide quiet country of peace-loving people; for the people who were living there before were of the offspring of Ham.

41 Questi uomini, ricordati più sopra per nome, giunsero, al tempo di Ezechia, re di Giuda, fecero man bassa sulle loro tende e sui Maoniti che si trovavan quivi, e li votarono allo sterminio, né sono risorti fino al dì d’oggi; poi si stabiliron colà in luogo di quelli, perché v’era pastura per i bestiami.

And these whose names are given came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and made an attack on the Meunim who were living there, and put an end to them to this day, and took their place, because there was grass there for their flocks.

42 E una parte di questi figliuoli di Simeone, cinquecento uomini, andarono verso il monte Seir, avendo alla loro testa Pelatia, Nearia, Refaia ed Uziel figliuoli di Isci;

And some of them, five hundred of the sons of Simeon, went to the hill-country of Seir, with Pelatiah and Neariah and Rephaiah and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi, at their head.

43 distrussero gli avanzi degli Amalekiti che avean potuto salvarsi, e si stabiliron quivi, dove son rimasti fino al dì d’oggi.

And they put to death the rest of the Amalekites who had got away safely, and made it their living-place to this day.
