Sofonia 2
1 ADUNATEVI come della stoppia; adunatevi, o nazione rincrescevole.
Gather your selues, euen gather you, O nation not worthie to be loued,
2 Avanti che il decreto partorisca, [e] il giorno sia passato a guisa di pula; avanti che venga sopra voi l'ardor dell'ira del Signore; avanti che venga sopra voi il giorno dell'ira del Signore;
Before the decree come foorth, and ye be as chaffe that passeth in a day, and before the fierce wrath of the Lord come vpon you, and before the day of the Lords anger come vpon you.
3 [voi], tutti i mansueti del paese, che fate ciò ch'egli ordina, cercate il Signore; cercate giustizia, procacciate mansuetudine; forse sarete nascosti nel giorno dell'ira del Signore.
Seeke yee the Lord all the meeke of the earth, which haue wrought his iudgement: seeke righteousnesse, seeke lowlinesse, if so bee that ye may be hid in the day of the Lords wrath.
4 Perciocchè Gaza sarà abbandonata, ed Aschelon [sarà messa] in desolazione; Asdod sarà scacciata in pien mezzodì, ed Ecron sarà diradicato.
For Azzah shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon desolate: they shall driue out Ashdod at the noone day, and Ekron shalbe rooted vp.
5 Guai a quelli che abitano nella contrada della marine, alla nazione de' Cheretei! la parola del Signore [è] contro a voi, o Cananei, o paese de' Filistei; ed io ti distruggerò, talchè in te non abiterà più alcuno.
Wo vnto the inhabitants of the sea coast. the nation of the Cherethims, the worde of the Lord is against you: O Canaan, the lande of the Philistims, I will euen destroye thee without an inhabitant.
6 E la contrada della marina sarà tutta mandre, e capanne di pastori, e stabbi di gregge.
And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cotages for shepheardes and sheepefoldes.
7 E quella contrada [sarà] per lo rimanente della casa di Giuda; essi pastureranno in que' luoghi; la sera giaceranno nelle case di Aschelon; perciocchè il Signore Iddio loro li visiterà, e li ritrarrà di cattività.
And that coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Iudah, to feede thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lodge toward night: for the Lord their God shall visite them, and turne away their captiuitie.
8 Io ho udito il vituperio di Moab, e gli oltraggi de' figliuoli di Ammon, i quali han fatto vituperio al mio popolo, e si sono ingranditi sopra i lor confini.
I haue heard the reproch of Moab, and the rebukes of the children of Ammon, whereby they vpbraided my people, and magnified themselues against their borders.
9 Perciò, [come] io vivo, dice il Signor degli eserciti, l'Iddio d'Israele, Moab sarà come Sodoma, e i figliuoli di Ammon come Gomorra: un luogo abbandonato alle lappole, e una salina, e un deserto in perpetuo; il rimanente del mio popolo li prederà, e il resto della mia nazione li possederà.
Therefore, as I liue, saith the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall bee as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorah, euen the breeding of nettels and salt pittes, and a perpetuall desolation: the residue of my folke shall spoyle them, and the remnant of my people shall possesse them.
10 Questo [avverrà] loro per la loro alterezza; perciocchè han fatto vituperio al popolo del Signor degli eserciti, e si sono elevati contro a lui.
This shall they haue for their pride, because they haue reproched and magnified themselues against the Lord of hostes people.
11 Il Signore [sarà] terribile contro a loro; perciocchè egli farà venir meno tutti gl'iddii della terra; e ciascuno dal suo luogo l'adorerà, tutte le isole delle genti.
The Lord will be terrible vnto them: for he wil consume all the gods of the earth, and euery man shall worship him from his place, euen all the yles of the heathen.
12 Anche voi, Etiopi, sarete uccisi con la mia spada.
Ye Morians also shalbe slaine by my sword with them.
13 Egli stenderà eziandio le sua mano sopra il Settentrione, e distruggerà Assur, e metterà Ninive in desolazione, in luogo arido, come un deserto.
And he wil stretch out his hand against the North, and destroy Asshur, and will make Nineueh desolate, and waste like a wildernesse.
14 E le gregge, tutte le bestie delle genti giaceranno nel mezzo di lei; e il pellicano, e la civetta albergheranno ne' frontispizii de' lor portali; canteranno con la [lor] voce sopra le finestre; desolazione sarà nelle soglie; perciocchè quella sarà spogliata de' suoi cedri.
And flockes shall lie in the middes of her, and all the beastes of the nations, and the pelicane, and the owle shall abide in the vpper postes of it: the voyce of birdes shall sing in the windowes, and desolations shalbe vpon the postes: for the cedars are vncouered.
15 Tal [sarà] la città trionfante, che abitava in sicurtà, che diceva nel cuor suo: Io [son dessa], e non [vi] è altri che me. Come è ella stata ridotta in desolazione, in ricetto di bestie! chiunque passerà presso di essa zufolerà, [e] moverà la mano.
This is the reioycing citie that dwelt carelesse, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none besides me: how is she made waste, and the lodging of the beastes! euery one that passeth by her, shall hisse and wagge his hand.
