Salmi 56

1 Mictam di Davide, intorno a ciò che i Filistei lo presero in Gat; [dato] al Capo dei Musici, in su Ionat-elem-rehochim ABBI pietà di me, o Dio; Perciocchè gli uomini a gola aperta sono dietro a me; [I miei] assalitori mi stringono tuttodì.

For the leader. On jonath elem rehokim. Of David. A michtam, when the Philistines seized him in Gath. O God, be gracious to me, for people trample upon me, all the day righting and pressing me.

2 I miei nemici son dietro a me a gola aperta tuttodì; Perciocchè gran numero di gente mi assale da alto.

All the day enemies trample me; many there be who contend with me bitterly.

3 Nel giorno [che] io temerò, Io mi confiderò in te.

In the day of my terror I trust in you.

4 Coll'[aiuto di] Dio, io loderò la sua parola; Io mi confido in Dio, Io non temerò cosa che mi possa far la carne.

In God I maintain my cause, in God I fearlessly trust. What can flesh do to me?

5 Tuttodì fanno dolorose le mie parole; Tutti i lor pensieri [son] contro a me a male.

They torture me all the day, they ceaselessly plan to hurt me,

6 Si radunano insieme, stanno in agguato; spiano le mie pedate, Come aspettando [di coglier] l'anima mia.

banded together in secret, watching my every step, as those who hope for my death.

7 In vano [sarebbe] il salvar loro [la vita]; O Dio, trabocca i popoli nella [tua] ira.

Pay them out for their sin, O God, hurl down the strong in your anger.

8 Tu hai contate le mie fughe; Riponi le mie lagrime ne' tuoi barili; Non [sono elleno] nel tuo registro?

You yourself count my wanderings. Put in your bottle my tears are they not in your book?

9 Allora i miei nemici volteranno le spalle, nel giorno che io griderò; Questo so io, che Iddio [è] per me.

Then shall my foes be turned back in the day that I call. Of this I am sure, because God is for me.

10 Con [l'aiuto di] Dio, io loderò la [sua] parola; Con [l'aiuto del] Signore, io loderò la [sua] parola.

In God I maintain my cause, in the Lord I maintain my cause.

11 Io mi confido in Dio; Io non temerò cosa che mi possa far l'uomo.

In God I fearlessly trust, what can people do to me?

12 [Io ho] sopra me i voti che io ti ho fatti, o Dio; Io ti renderò lodi.

Your vows are upon me, O God, I will render thank-offerings to you;

13 Conciossiachè tu abbi riscossa l'anima mia dalla morte; Non [hai tu guardati] i miei piedi di ruina, Acciocchè io cammini nel cospetto di Dio nella luce de' viventi?

because you have saved me from death, my feet from stumbling, to the end that I walk before God in the light of the living.
