Salmi 49
1 Salmo, [dato] al Capo de' Musici, de' figliuoli di Core UDITE questo, popoli tutti; Porgete gli orecchi, [voi] tutti gli abitanti del mondo;
“For the leader of the music. A psalm of the sons of Korah.” Hear this, all ye nations; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world;
2 E plebei, e nobili, E ricchi, e bisognosi tutti insieme.
Both high and low, rich and poor alike!
3 La mia bocca proferirà [cose di] gran sapienza; E il ragionamento del mio cuore [sarà] di cose di grande intendimento.
My mouth shall speak wisdom, And the meditation of my mind shall be understanding.
4 Io inchinerò il mio orecchio alle sentenze; Io spiegherò sopra la cetera i miei detti notevoli.
I will incline mine ear to a poem; I will utter my song upon the harp.
5 Perchè temerò ne' gioni dell'avversità [Quando] l'iniquità che mi è alle calcagna m'intornierà?
Why should I fear in the days of adversity, When the iniquity of my adversaries encompasseth me;
6 [Ve ne son molti] che si confidano ne' lor beni, E si gloriano della grandezza delle lor ricchezze.
They who trust in their riches, And glory in the greatness of their wealth?
7 Niuno però può riscuotere il suo fratello, Nè dare a Dio il prezzo del suo riscatto.
No one can redeem his brother from death, Nor give a ransom for him to God,
8 E il riscatto della lor [propria] anima non può trovarsi, E il [modo ne] mancherà in perpetuo;
That he should live to eternity, And not see the pit.
9 Per fare che continuino a vivere in perpetuo, [E] che non veggano la fossa;
Too costly is the redemption of his life, And he giveth it up for ever.
10 Conciossiachè veggano [che] i savi muoiono, [E che] parimente i pazzi, e gli stolti periscono, E lasciano i lor beni ad altri.
For he seeth that wise men die, As well as the foolish and the ignorant; They perish alike, And leave their wealth to others.
11 Il loro intimo [pensiero è che] le lor case [dimoreranno] in eterno, [E che] le loro abitazioni [dureranno] per ogni età; Impongono i nomi loro a delle terre.
They imagine that their houses will endure for ever, And their dwelling-places from generation to generation: Men celebrate their names on the earth.
12 E pur l'uomo [che è] in onore non [vi] dimora [sempre]; [Anzi] è renduto simile alle bestie [che] periscono.
Yet man, who is in honor, abideth not; He is like the beasts that perish.
13 Questa lor via [è] loro una pazzia; E pure i lor discendenti si compiacciono a seguire i lor precetti. (Sela)
Such is the way which is their confidence! And they who come after them approve their maxims. (Pause)
14 Saranno posti sotterra, come pecore; La morte li pasturerà; E gli [uomini] diritti signoreggeranno sopra loro in quella mattina; E il sepolcro consumerà la lor bella apparenza, [Che sarà portata via] dal suo abitacolo. (Sheol h7585)
Like sheep they are cast into the underworld; Death shall feed upon them; And the upright shall soon trample upon them. Their form shall be consumed in the underworld, And they shall no more have a dwelling-place. (Sheol h7585)
But God will redeem my life from the underworld; Yea, he will take me under his care. (Pause) (Sheol h7585)
16 Non temere, quando alcuno sarà arricchito, Quando la gloria della sua casa sarà accresciuta.
Be not thou afraid, when one becometh rich; When the glory of his house is increased!
17 Perciocchè, quando egli morrà non torrà [seco] nulla; La sua gloria non gli scenderà dietro.
For, when he dieth, he will carry nothing away; His glory will not descend after him.
18 Benchè egli abbia benedetta l'anima sua in vita sua; E [tali] ti lodino, se tu ti dài piacere, e buon tempo;
Though in his life he thought himself happy, —Though men praised thee, while thou wast in prosperity, —
19 Quella verrà [là ove è] la generazion de' suoi padri; Giammai in eterno non vedranno la luce.
Yet shalt thou go to the dwelling-place of thy fathers, Who never more shall see the light!
20 L'uomo [che è] in istato onorevole, e non ha intelletto, È simile alle bestie [che] periscono.
The man who is in honor, but without understanding, Is like the beasts that perish.
