1 Cantico di Maalot, di Davide DICA pure ora Israele: Se non che il Signore fu per noi;

A song of ascents. Of David. “Had it not been the Lord who was for us” let Israel say

2 Se non che il Signore fu per noi, Quando gli uomini si levarono contro a noi;

“Had it not been the Lord who was for us when enemies rose against us,

3 Essi ci avrebbero tranghiottiti tutti vivi, Allora che l'ira loro ardeva contro a noi;

then alive they’d have swallowed us up, when their anger was kindled against us.

4 Allora le acque ci avrebbero inondati; Il torrente sarebbe passato sopra l'anima nostra;

Then the waters would’ve swept us away, and the torrent passed over us clean:

5 Allora le acque gonfiate Sarebbero passate sopra l'anima nostra.

then most sure would’ve passed over us clean the wild seething waters.”

6 Benedetto [sia] il Signore, Che non ci ha dati in preda a' lor denti.

Blest be the Lord who has given us not to be torn by their teeth.

7 L'anima nostra è scampata dal laccio degli uccellatori, come un uccelletto; Il laccio è stato rotto, e noi siamo scampati.

We are like a bird just escaped from the snare of the fowler. The snare is broken, and we are escaped.

8 Il nostro aiuto [è] nel Nome del Signore, Che ha fatto il cielo e la terra.

Our help is the name of the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth.
