Salmi 114

1 QUANDO Israele uscì di Egitto, [E] la casa di Giacobbe d'infra il popolo barbaro;

When Israel went forth out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of a strange language:

2 Giuda fu consacrato al Signore, Israele [divenne] suo dominio.

Judah became his sanctuary, [and] Israel his dominion.

3 Il mare [lo] vide, e fuggì; Il Giordano si rivolse a ritroso.

The sea beheld it, and fled: the Jordan was driven backward.

4 I monti saltarono come montoni, I colli come agnelli.

The mountains skipped like wethers, the hills like lambs.

5 Che avesti, o mare, che tu fuggisti? [E tu], Giordano, che ti rivolgesti a ritroso?

What aileth thee, O sea, that thou fleest? thou, O Jordan, that thou art driven backward?

6 [E voi], monti, [che] saltaste come montoni; [E voi], colli, come agnelli?

Ye mountains, that ye skip like wethers? ye hills, like lambs?

7 Trema, o terra, per la presenza del Signore; Per la presenza dell'Iddio di Giacobbe;

At the presence of the Lord tremble, O earth, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

8 Il quale mutò la roccia in guazzo d'acqua, Il macigno in fonte d'acqua.

Who changeth the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of water.
