Proverbi 1
1 I PROVERBI di Salomone, figliuolo di Davide, Re d'Israele;
The Parables of Salomon the sonne of Dauid King of Israel,
2 Per conoscere sapienza ed ammaestramento, Per intendere i detti di senno;
To knowe wisdome, and instruction, to vnderstand ye wordes of knowledge,
3 Per ricevere ammaestramento di buon senno, Di giustizia, di giudicio e di dirittura;
To receiue instruction to do wisely, by iustice and iudgement and equitie,
4 Per dare avvedimento a' semplici. [E] conoscenza, ed accorgimento a' fanciulli.
To giue vnto the simple, sharpenesse of wit, and to the childe knowledge and discretion.
5 Il savio [li] udirà, e [ne] accrescerà la [sua] scienza; E l'[uomo] intendente [ne] acquisterà buoni consigli, e governo;
A wise man shall heare and increase in learning, and a man of vnderstanding shall attayne vnto wise counsels,
6 Per comprender le sentenze ed i bei motti, Le parole de' savi ed i lor detti oscuri.
To vnderstand a parable, and the interpretation, the wordes of ye wise, and their darke sayings.
7 IL timor del Signore [è] il capo della scienza; [Ma] gli stolti sprezzano la sapienza e l'ammaestramento.
The feare of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fooles despise wisedome and instruction.
8 Ascolta, figliuol mio l'ammaestramento di tuo padre; E non lasciar l'insegnamento di tua madre;
My sonne, heare thy fathers instruction, and forsake not thy mothers teaching.
9 Perciocchè saranno un fregio grazioso al tuo capo, E collane al tuo collo.
For they shalbe a comely ornament vnto thine head, and as chaines for thy necke.
10 Figliuol mio, se i peccatori ti vogliono sedurre, Non acconsentir [loro].
My sonne, if sinners doe intise thee, consent thou not.
11 Se dicono: Vieni con noi, poniamo agguati al sangue, Insidiamo di nascosto l'innocente impunitamente;
If they say, Come with vs, we will lay waite for blood, and lie priuilie for the innocent without a cause:
12 Tranghiottiamoli tutti vivi, come il sepolcro; E tutti intieri, a guisa di quelli che scendono nella fossa; (Sheol h7585)
We wil swallow them vp aliue like a graue euen whole, as those that goe downe into the pit: (Sheol h7585)
13 Noi troveremo ogni [sorte di] preziosi beni, Noi empieremo le nostre case di spoglie;
We shall finde all precious riches, and fill our houses with spoyle:
14 Tu trarrai la tua sorte con noi; Fra noi [non] vi sarà [che] una sola borsa;
Cast in thy lot among vs: we will all haue one purse:
15 Figliuol mio, non inviarti con loro; Rattieni il tuo piè dal lor sentiero.
My sonne, walke not thou in the way with them: refraine thy foote from their path.
16 Perciocchè i lor piedi corrono al male, E si affrettano a spandere il sangue.
For their feete runne to euill, and make haste to shed blood.
17 Perciocchè invano si tende la rete Dinanzi agli occhi d'ogni uccello;
Certainely as without cause the net is spred before the eyes of all that hath wing:
18 Ma essi pongono agguati al lor [proprio] sangue, Ed insidiano nascosamente l'anima loro.
So they lay waite for blood and lie priuily for their liues.
19 Tali [sono] i sentieri d'ogni uomo dato all'avarizia; Ella coglie l'anima di coloro in cui ella si trova.
Such are the wayes of euery one that is greedy of gaine: he would take away the life of the owners thereof.
20 LA somma Sapienza grida di fuori; Ella fa sentir la sua voce per le piazze;
Wisdome cryeth without: she vttereth her voyce in the streetes.
21 Ella grida in capo de' luoghi delle turbe; Ella pronunzia i suoi ragionamenti nell'entrate delle porte, nella città,
She calleth in the hye streete, among the prease in the entrings of the gates, and vttereth her wordes in the citie, saying,
22 [Dicendo: ] Infino a quando, o scempi, amerete la scempietà? Ed [infino a quando] gli schernitori prenderanno piacere in ischernire, Ed i pazzi avranno in odio la scienza?
O ye foolish, howe long will ye loue foolishnes? and the scornefull take their pleasure in scorning, and the fooles hate knowledge?
23 Convertitevi alla mia riprensione; Ecco, io vi sgorgherò lo spirito mio; Io vi farò assapere le mie parole.
(Turne you at my correction: loe, I will powre out my mind vnto you, and make you vnderstand my wordes)
24 Perciocchè io ho gridato, e voi avete ricusato [di ascoltare]; Io ho distesa la mano, e niuno ha porto attenzione;
Because I haue called, and ye refused: I haue stretched out mine hand, and none woulde regarde.
25 Ed avete lasciato ogni mio consiglio, E non avete gradita la mia correzione;
But ye haue despised all my counsell, and would none of my correction.
26 Io altresì riderò della vostra calamità; Io mi farò beffe, quando il vostro spavento sarà venuto;
I will also laugh at your destruction, and mocke, when your feare commeth.
27 Quando il vostro spavento sarà venuto, a guisa di ruina, E la vostra calamità sarà giunta, a guisa di turbo; Quando angoscia e distretta vi sarà sopraggiunta.
Whe your feare cometh like sudden desolation, and your destruction shall come like a whirle wind: whe affliction and anguish shall come vpon you,
28 Allora essi grideranno a me, ma io non risponderò; Mi ricercheranno sollecitamente, ma non mi troveranno;
Then shall they call vpon me, but I will not answere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me,
29 Perciocchè hanno odiata la scienza, E non hanno eletto il timor del Signore;
Because they hated knowledge, and did not chuse the feare of the Lord.
30 E non hanno gradito il mio consiglio, [Ed] hanno disdegnata ogni mia correzione.
They would none of my counsell, but despised all my correction.
31 Perciò mangeranno del frutto delle lor vie, E saranno saziati de' lor consigli.
Therefore shall they eate of ye fruite of their owne way, and be filled with their owne deuises.
32 Perciocchè lo sviamento degli scempi li uccide, E l'error degli stolti li fa perire.
For ease slaieth the foolish, and the prosperitie of fooles destroyeth them.
33 Ma chi mi ascolta abiterà in sicurtà, E viverà in riposo, fuor di spavento di male.
But he that obeyeth me, shall dwell safely, and be quiet from feare of euill.
