Proverbi 24
1 Non portare invidia agli uomini malvagi, E non desiderare di esser con loro.
Be not thou envious of wicked men, neither crave to be with them;
2 Perciocchè il cuor loro macchina rapina, E le lor labbra parlano d'iniquità.
For, violence, their heart muttereth, and, mischief, their lips do speak.
3 La casa sarà edificata per sapienza, E sarà stabilita per prudenza.
In wisdom, is a house builded, and, in understanding, is it established;
4 E per conoscimento le camere saranno ripiene Di beni preziosi e dilettevoli, d'ogni maniera.
And, in knowledge, chambers are filled, with all acquisitions, costly and fair.
5 L'uomo savio [è] forte; E l'uomo intendente è possente di forza.
A wise man, is mighty, and, a man of knowledge, becometh alert in vigour.
6 Perciocchè con prudenti consigli tu farai la guerra; E la salute [è posta] in moltitudine di consiglieri.
Surely, with concerted measures, shalt thou make for thyself war, and, success, lieth in the greatness of the counsellor.
7 Le sapienze [son] troppo alte per lo stolto; Egli non aprirà la bocca nella porta.
Unattainable to a foolish man, are the dictates of wisdom, in the gate, he openeth not his mouth.
8 Chi divisa far male Sarà chiamato uomo malizioso.
He that deviseth to do mischief, him, shall men call, a master of plots.
9 Il pensiero di stoltizia [è] peccato; E lo schernitore [è] l'abbominio degli uomini.
The purpose of folly, is sin, and, an abomination to mankind, is a buffoon.
10 [Se] tu ti rallenti nel giorno della distretta, Le tue forze [saranno] corte.
Thou hast been slothful in the day of straitness, Strait, is thy strength.
11 Se tu ti rattieni dal riscuoter quelli che son tratti alla morte, E quelli che stanno in forse di essere uccisi,
Deliver thou such as are being led forth to death, and, them who are tottering to slaughter, oh that thou wouldst hold back!
12 Dicendo: Ecco noi non ne sappiamo nulla; Colui che pesa i cuori non [vi] porrà egli mente? E il guardiano dell'anima tua [non] lo conoscerà egli, E non renderà egli a ciascuno secondo le sue opere?
Though thou say, Lo! we knew not this, Shall not, he that proveth hearts, himself, discern? And, he that formeth thy soul, himself, know? and bring back to a son of earth according to his deed?
13 Figliuol mio, mangia pure del miele; Perciocchè [egli è] buono; E del favo [del miele, che è] dolce al tuo palato;
My son, eat thou honey, because it is good, —and droppings from the comb [because they are] sweet to thy palate:
14 Tal [sarà] la conoscenza della sapienza all'anima tua, Quando tu l'avrai trovata; e vi sarà premio, E la tua speranza non sarà troncata.
Thus, take knowledge of wisdom, for thine own soul; If thou find it, then there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.
15 O empio, non insidiar l'abitacolo del giusto, Non guastare il suo ricetto.
Do not lie in wait, thou lawless man, against the home of the righteous, —neither destroy thou his place of rest;
16 Perciocchè il giusto cade sette volte, e si rileva; Ma gli empi ruinano nel male.
For, seven times, may the righteous fall and yet arise, but, lawless men, shall stumble into calamity.
17 Non rallegrarti, quando il tuo nemico sarà caduto; E quando egli sarà ruinato, il cuor tuo non [ne] gioisca;
When thine enemy falleth, do not thou rejoice, and, when he stumbleth, let not thy heart exult:
18 Che talora il Signore nol vegga, e che [ciò] non gli dispiaccia, E ch'egli non istorni l'ira sua d'addosso a lui.
Lest Yahweh see it, and it be wicked in his eyes, and he turn away from him his anger.
19 Non adirarti per li maligni; Non portare invidia agli empi.
Burn not with vexation against evil doers, be not envious of lawless men;
20 Perciocchè non vi sarà premio alcuno per lo malvagio; La lampana degli empi sarà spenta.
For there shall be no future for the wicked, The lamp of the lawless, shall go out.
21 Figliuol mio, temi il Signore e il re; Non rimescolarti co' rapportatori.
Revere thou Yahweh, my son, and the king, and, with the fickle, have thou no fellowship;
22 Perciocchè in un momento sorgerà la loro calamità; E chi conosce la ruina [procedente] d'amendue loro?
For, suddenly, shall arise their calamity; and, the misfortune of their years, who knoweth?
23 Queste cose ancora [son] per li Savi. Ei non [è] bene di aver riguardo alla qualità delle persone in giudicio.
These things also, concern the wise, To take note of faces in judgment, is not good.
24 I popoli malediranno, [e] le nazioni esecreranno Colui che dice all'empio: Tu [sei] giusto.
He that saith to the lawless man, Righteous, thou art, peoples shall denounce him, populations shall curse him;
25 Ma quelli che lo gastigano saranno grati; E benedizione di bene verrà sopra loro.
But, to reprovers, one should be pleasant, and, upon them, should come an excellent blessing:
26 Chi risponde parole diritte Bacia le labbra.
Lips, should one kiss with one who answereth in right words.
27 Ordina le tue faccende fuori, E mettile in assetto ne' tuoi campi; E poi edificherai la tua casa.
Prepare, in the open, thy work, and make ready, in the field, for thyself, Afterwards, shalt thou build thy house.
28 Non essere testimonio contro al tuo prossimo senza cagione; E vorresti tu subornare alcuno con le tue labbra?
Do not become a needless witness against thy neighbour, so mightest thou open too wide thy lips:
29 Non dire: Come egli ha fatto a me, così farò a lui; Io renderò a costui secondo l'opera sua.
Do not say—According to what he hath done to me, so, will I do to him, I will repay every one according to his work.
30 Io passai [già] presso al campo del pigro, E presso alla vigna dell'uomo scemo di senno;
By the field of the sluggard, I passed, and by the vineyard of a man lacking sense;
31 Ed ecco, [amendue] erano tutti montati in ortiche, I cardi ne aveano coperto il disopra, E la lor chiusura di pietre era ruinata.
And lo! there had come up all over it—thorns, there had covered the face thereof—thistles, and, the stone fence thereof, had been thrown down.
32 Ed io, riguardando [ciò, vi] posi mente; Veduto[lo, ne] presi ammaestramento.
So I observed it, for myself, I applied my heart, I looked—I accepted correction:
33 Dormendo un poco, sonnecchiando un poco, Piegando un poco le mani per riposare;
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest:
34 La tua povertà verrà [come] un viandante, E la tua inopia come uno scudiere.
So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.
