Proverbi 18
1 Colui che si separa cerca le sue cupidità, E schernisce ogni legge e ragione.
A man seeketh, for satisfaction, going his own way, through all safe counsel, he breaketh.
2 Lo stolto non si diletta nella prudenza, Ma in ciò che il cuor suo si manifesti.
A dullard, delighteth not, in understanding, in nothing save the exposing of his own heart.
3 Quando viene un empio, viene anche lo sprezzo, E il vituperio con ignominia.
When the lawless man cometh in, then cometh also contempt, and, with shame, reproach.
4 Le parole della bocca dell'uomo eccellente sono acque profonde; La fonte di sapienza [è] un torrente che sgorga.
Deep waters, are the words of a man’s mouth, —a bubbling brook, the well-spring of wisdom.
5 Egli non [è] bene d'aver riguardo alla qualità dell'empio, Per far torto al giusto nel giudicio.
To prefer a lawless man, is not good, thrusting away the righteous, in judgment.
6 Le labbra dello stolto entrano in contesa, E la sua bocca chiama le percosse.
the lips of a dullard, enter into contention, and his mouth, for blows, crieth out.
7 La bocca dello stolto [è] la sua ruina, E le sue labbra [sono] il laccio dell'anima sua.
The mouth of a dullard, is his ruin, and, his lips, are a snare to his soul.
8 Le parole di chi va bisbigliando paiono lusinghevoli; Ma scendono fin nell'interiora del ventre.
the words of a tattler, are dainties, they, therefore go down into the chambers of the inner man.
9 Chi si porta rimessamente nel suo lavoro, [È] fratello dell'uomo dissipatore.
Surely he that is slothful in his work, brother, is he to a master at laying waste.
10 Il Nome del Signore [è] una forte torre; Il giusto vi ricorrerà, e sarà in salvo in luogo elevato.
A tower of strength, is the Name of Yahweh, thereinto, runneth the righteous, and is safe.
11 I beni del ricco [son] la sua città di fortezza, E come un alto muro alla sua immaginazione.
The substance of a rich man, is his strong city, and like a high wall, in his imagination.
12 Il cuor dell'uomo s'innalza avanti la ruina; Ma l'umiltà [va] davanti alla gloria.
Before grievous injury, a man’s heart is haughty, and, before honour, is humility.
13 Chi fa risposta prima che abbia udito, Ciò gli [è] pazzia e vituperio.
He that answereth before he heareth, a folly, it is to him, and, a reproach.
14 Lo spirito dell'uomo sostiene l'infermità di esso; Ma chi solleverà lo spirito afflitto?
The spirit of a man, sustaineth his sickness, but, a dejected spirit, who can bear it?
15 Il cuor dell'[uomo] intendente acquista scienza; E l'orecchio de' savi cerca conoscimento.
the heart of the intelligent, acquireth knowledge, yea, the ear of the wise, seeketh knowledge.
16 Il presente dell'uomo gli fa far largo, E lo conduce davanti a' grandi.
The gift of a man, maketh room for him, and, before great men, setteth him down.
17 Chi [è] il primo a [piatir] la sua causa ha ragione; Ma il suo compagno vien [poi], ed esamina quello [ch'egli ha detto].
Righteous is he that is first in his own cause, then cometh his neighbour, and thoroughly searcheth him.
18 La sorte fa cessar le liti, E fa gli spartimenti fra i potenti.
The lot causeth, contentions, to cease, and, the mighty, it parteth.
19 Il fratello offeso [è più inespugnabile] che una forte città; E le contese [tra fratelli son] come le sbarre di un palazzo.
A brother estranged, [is worse] than a strong city, —and, contentions, are as the bar of a citadel.
20 Il ventre dell'uomo sarà saziato del frutto della sua bocca; Egli sarà saziato della rendita delle sue labbra.
Of the fruit of a man’s mouth, shall his inmost mind be satisfied, with the product of his lips, shall he be satisfied.
21 Morte e vita [sono] in poter della lingua; E chi l'ama mangerà del frutto di essa.
Death and life, are in the power of the tongue, and, its friends, shall eat its fruits.
22 Chi ha trovata moglie ha trovata una buona cosa, Ed ha ottenuto favor del Signore.
Who hath found a wife, hath found a blessing, and hath obtained favour from Yahweh.
23 Il povero parla supplichevolmente; Ma il ricco risponde duramente.
Supplications, doth the poor man utter, but, the rich, answereth fiercely.
24 Un uomo che ha degli amici deve portarsi da amico; E vi è tale amico, che è più congiunto che un fratello.
A man having [many] friends, shall come to ruin, but there is a loving one, who sticketh closer than a brother.
