Numeri 17

1 POI il Signore parlò a Mosè, dicendo:

And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,

2 Parla a' figliuoli d'Israele, e prendi da loro una verga per ciascuna nazione paterna; dodici verghe, da tutti i capi delle lor nazioni paterne; [e] scrivi il nome di ciascum [d'essi] sopra la sua verga.

“Speak to the sons of Israel, and take a rod from each of them, for a father’s house, from all their princes, for the house of their fathers—twelve rods; you write the name of each on his rod,

3 E scrivi il nome di Aaronne sopra la verga di Levi; perciocchè [v'ha da essere] una verga per ciascun capo di nazione paterna.

and you write Aaron’s name on the tribe of Levi; for one rod [is] for the head of their fathers’ house.

4 Poi riponi quelle [verghe] nel Tabernacolo della convenenza, davanti alla Testimonianza, dove io mi ritrovo con voi.

And you have placed them in the Tent of Meeting before the Testimony, where I meet with you.

5 E avverrà che la verga di colui che io avrò eletto germoglierà; e così acqueterò d'attorno a me i mormorii de' figliuoli d'Israele, co' quali mormorano contro a voi.

And it has come to pass, the man’s rod on whom I fix flourishes, and I have caused the murmurings of the sons of Israel, which they are murmuring against you, to cease from off Me.”

6 Mosè adunque parlò a' figliuoli d'Israele; e tutti i lor capi gli diedero una verga per ciascun capo delle lor nazioni paterne, [che furono] dodici verghe; e la verga d'Aaronne [era] per mezzo le lor verghe.

And Moses speaks to the sons of Israel, and all their princes give to him one rod for a prince, one rod for a prince, for their fathers’ house—twelve rods; and the rod of Aaron [is] in the midst of their rods;

7 E Mosè ripose quelle verghe davanti al Signore, nel Tabernacolo della Testimonianza.

and Moses places the rods before YHWH in the Tent of the Testimony.

8 E il giorno seguente, essendo Mosè entrato nel Tabernacolo della Testimonianza, ecco, la verga d'Aaronne, [ch'era] per la nazione di Levi, era germogliata; e avea messe gemme, e prodotti fiori, e maturate delle mandorle.

And it comes to pass, on the next day, that Moses goes into the Tent of the Testimony, and behold, the rod of Aaron has flourished for the house of Levi, and brings out a bud, and blossoms [with] a blossom, and produces almonds;

9 E Mosè trasse fuori tutte quelle verghe d'innanzi al Signore, [e le recò] a tutti i figliuoli d'Israele; i quali [le] videro, e ciascuno prese la sua verga.

and Moses brings out all the rods from before YHWH to all the sons of Israel, and they look, and each takes his rod.

10 E il Signore disse a Mosè: Riporta la verga d'Aaronne davanti alla Testimonianza; acciocchè sia guardata per segnale a' ribelli; e così fa' restar d'attorno a me i lor mormorii; che talora non muoiano.

And YHWH says to Moses, “Put back the rod of Aaron before the Testimony, for a charge, for a sign to the sons of rebellion, and you remove their murmurings from off Me, and they do not die”;

11 E Mosè fece così; come il Signore gli avea comandato, così fece.

and Moses does as YHWH has commanded him; so he has done.

12 E i figliuoli d'Israele dissero a Mosè: Ecco, noi siam morti, noi siam perduti, noi tutti siam perduti.

And the sons of Israel speak to Moses, saying, “Behold, we have expired, we have perished, all of us have perished!

13 Chiunque si accosta al Tabernacolo del Signore muore; morremo noi tutti quanti?

Any who is at all drawing near to the Dwelling Place of YHWH dies; have we not been consumed—to expire?”
