Nahum 3
1 GUAI alla città di sangue, che [è] tutta piena di menzogna, [e] di storsione! dalla quale il predare non si diparte giammai.
O city of blood, wholly false, full of unrighteousness; the prey shall not be handled.
2 Suon di sferza, e fracasso di ruote, e cavalli scalpitanti, e carri saltellanti;
The noise of whips, and the noise of the rumbling of wheels, and of the pursuing horse, and of the bounding chariot,
3 cavalieri balzanti, fiammeggiar di spade, e folgorar di lance, e moltitudine di uccisi, e gran numero di corpi morti, e cadaveri senza fine; l'uomo s'intopperà ne' lor corpi morti.
and of the mounting rider, and of the glittering sword, and of the gleaming arms, and of a multitude of slain, and of heavy falling: and there was no end to her nations, but they shall be weak in their bodies
4 Per la moltitudine delle fornicazioni della graziosa meretrice, maestra d'incantesimi; che fa mercatanzia delle genti per le sue fornicazioni, e delle nazioni per li suoi incantesimi,
because of the abundance of fornication: [she is] a fair harlot, and well-favoured, skilled in sorcery, that sells the nations by her fornication, and peoples by her sorceries.
5 eccomi a te, dice il Signore degli eserciti; io ti rimboccherò i tuoi lembi in su la faccia, e farò vedere alle genti le tue vergogne, e a' regni la tua turpitudine.
Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord God Almighty, and I will uncover thy skirts in thy presence, and I will shew the nations thy shame, and the kingdoms thy disgrace.
6 E ti getterò addosso cose abbominevoli, e ti villaneggerò, e ti ridurrò ad esser come dello sterco.
And I will cast abominable filth upon thee according to thine unclean ways, and will make thee a public example.
7 E tutti quelli che ti vedranno fuggiranno lungi da te, e diranno: Ninive è stata guasta; chi si condorrà seco? onde ti cercherei de' consolatori?
And it shall be [that] every one that sees thee shall go down from thee, and shall say, Wretched Nineve! who shall lament for her? whence shall I seek comfort for her?
8 Vali tu meglio di No, piena di popolo, situata fra i rivi, intorniata d'acque, il cui antimuro [era] il mare, [e] le cui mura [sorgevano] dal mare?
Prepare thee a portion, tune the chord, prepare a portion for Ammon: she that dwells among the rivers, water is round about her, whose dominion is the sea, and whose walls are water.
9 Cus, ed Egitto, ed [altri popoli] senza fine, [erano] la sua forza; que' di Put, e i Libii erano in tuo aiuto, [o No].
And Ethiopia is her strength, and Egypt; and there was no limit of the flight [of her enemies]; and the Libyans became her helpers.
10 E pure ella è stata trasportata, è andata in cattività; e pure i suoi piccoli fanciulli sono stati schiacciati in capo d'ogni strada, e si son tratte le sorti sopra i suoi personaggi onorati, e tutti i suoi grandi sono stati incatenati, [e messi] ne' ceppi.
Yet she shall go as a prisoner into captivity, and they shall dash her infants against the ground at the top of all her ways: and they shall cast lots upon all her glorious [possessions], and all her nobles shall be bound in chains.
11 Anche tu sarai inebbriato, [e] ti nasconderai; anche tu cercherai qualche luogo forte, [da salvarti] dal nemico.
And thou shalt be drunken, and shalt be overlooked; and thou shalt seek for thyself strength because of [thine] enemies.
12 Tutte le tue fortezze [saranno come] fichi, e frutti primaticci; i quali, essendo scossi, caggiono in bocca di chi [li] vuol mangiare.
All thy strong-holds are as fig-trees having watchers: if they be shaken, they shall fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Ecco, il tuo popolo [sarà] come tante donne, dentro di te; le porte del tuo paese saranno tutte aperte a' tuoi nemici; il fuoco consumerà le tue sbarre.
Behold, thy people within thee are as women: the gates of thy land shall surely be opened to thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.
14 Attigniti pur dell'acqua per l'assedio, fortifica le tue fortezze, entra nella malta, e intridi l'argilla; rifa' la fornace da mattoni.
Draw thee water for a siege, and well secure thy strong-holds: enter into the clay, and be thou trodden in the chaff, make [the fortifications] stronger than brick.
15 Quivi ti consumerà il fuoco, la spada ti distruggerà; [il fuoco] ti consumerà, a guisa di bruchi; adunati pure in gran numero, a guisa di bruchi; adunati pure in gran numero, a guisa di locuste.
There the fire shall devour thee; the sword shall utterly destroy thee, it shall devour thee as the locust, and thou shalt be pressed down as a palmerworm.
16 Tu hai moltiplicati i tuoi mercatanti sopra [il numero del]le stelle del cielo; il bruco è scorso, e [poi] se ne è volato via.
Thou hast multiplied thy merchandise beyond the stars of heaven: the palmerworm has attacked [it], and has flown away.
17 I tuoi coronati [son] come locuste, e i tuoi capitani [son] come le maggiori locuste, che si accampano nelle chiusure, in tempo di freddo; e quando il sole è levato, si dileguano, e non si riconosce [più] il loro luogo, dove [erano].
Thy mixed [multitude] has suddenly departed as the grasshopper, as the locust perched on a hedge in a frosty day; the sun arises, and it flies off, and knows not its place: woe to them!
18 O re di Assur, i tuoi pastori sono addormentati; i tuoi bravi guerrieri si son ritratti in casa loro; il tuo popolo è disperso su per li monti, e non [vi è] alcuno che [lo] raccolga.
Thy shepherds have slumbered, the Assyrian king has laid low thy mighty men: thy people departed to the mountains, and there was none to receive [them].
19 La tua rottura non si può risaldare in modo alcuno; la tua piaga è dolorosa; tutti quelli che udiranno il grido di te si batteranno a palme di te; perciocchè, sopra cui non è del continuo passata la tua malvagità?
There is no healing for thy bruise; thy wound has rankled: all that hear the report of thee shall clap their hands against thee; for upon whom has not thy wickedness passed continually?
