Luca 6
1 OR avvenne, nel primo sabato dal dì appresso [la pasqua], ch'egli camminava per le biade; e i suoi discepoli svellevano delle spighe, e [le] mangiavano, sfregandole con le mani.
One Sabbath Jesus was walking through cornfields, and his disciples were picking the ears of wheat, and rubbing them in their hands, and eating them.
2 Ed alcuni de' Farisei disser loro: Perchè fate ciò che non è lecito di fare nei giorni di sabato?
“Why are you doing what it is not allowable to do on the Sabbath?” asked some of the Pharisees.
3 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Non avete voi pur letto ciò che fece Davide, quando ebbe fame, egli, e coloro ch'eran con lui?
Jesus’ answer was, “Haven’t you read even of what David did, when he was hungry, he and his companions –
4 Come egli entrò nella casa di Dio, e prese i pani di presentazione, e [ne] mangiò, e [ne] diede ancora a coloro ch' [eran] con lui; i quali però non è lecito di mangiare, se non a' sacerdoti soli?
That he went into the house of God, and took the consecrated bread and ate it, and gave some to his companions, though only the priests are allowed to eat it?”
5 Poi disse loro: Il Figliuol dell'uomo è Signore eziandio del sabato.
Then Jesus added, “The Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
6 OR avvenne, in un altro sabato, ch'egli entrò nella sinagoga, ed insegnava; e quivi era un uomo, la cui man destra era secca.
On another Sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and taught; and there was a man there whose right hand was withered.
7 E i Farisei e gli Scribi l'osservavano, se lo guarirebbe nel sabato; per trovar di che accusarlo.
The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees watched Jesus closely, to see if he would work cures on the Sabbath, so that they might find a charge to bring against him.
8 Ma egli conosceva i lor pensieri, e disse all'uomo che avea la man secca: Levati, e sta' in piè [ivi] in mezzo. Ed egli, levatosi, stette in piè.
Jesus, however, knew what was in the their minds, and said to the man whose hand was withered, “Stand up and come out into the middle.” The man stood up;
9 Gesù adunque disse loro: Io vi domando: Che? è egli lecito di far bene o male, ne' sabati? di salvar una persona, o d'ucciderla?
and Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it allowable to do good on the Sabbath – or harm? To save a life, or let it perish?”
10 E guardatili tutti d'intorno, disse a quell'uomo: Distendi la tua mano. Ed egli fece così. E la sua mano fu resa sana come l'altra.
Then, looking around at them all, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” The man did so; and his hand had become sound.
11 Ed essi furono ripieni di furore, e ragionavano fra loro, che cosa farebbero a Gesù.
But the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees were mad with rage, and consulted together what they could do to Jesus.
12 OR avvenne, in que' giorni, ch'egli uscì al monte, per orare, e passò la notte in orazione a Dio.
Now about that time, Jesus went out, up the hill, to pray, and spent the whole night in prayer to God.
13 E quando fu giorno, chiamò a sè i suoi discepoli, e ne elesse dodici, i quali ancora nominò Apostoli;
When day came, he summoned his disciples, and chose twelve of them, whom he also named ‘apostles.’
14 [cioè: ] Simone, il quale ancora nominò Pietro, ed Andrea, suo fratello; Giacomo, e Giovanni; Filippo, e Bartolomeo;
They were Simon (whom Jesus also named Peter), and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
15 Matteo, e Toma; Giacomo di Alfeo, e Simone, chiamato Zelote;
Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon known as the Zealot,
16 Giuda, [fratel] di Giacomo, e Giuda Iscariot, il quale ancora fu traditore.
Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who proved a traitor.
17 POI, sceso con loro, si fermò in una pianura, con la moltitudine dei suoi discepoli, e con gran numero di popolo di tutta la Giudea, e di Gerusalemme, e della marina di Tiro, e di Sidon, i quali eran venuti per udirlo, e per esser guariti delle loro infermità;
Afterward Jesus came down the hill with them and took his stand on a level place. With him were a large crowd of his disciples, and great numbers of people from the whole of Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast district of Tyre and Sidon,
18 insieme con coloro ch'erano tormentati da spiriti immondi; e furon guariti.
who had come to hear him and to be restored to health. Those, too, who were troubled with foul spirits were cured;
19 E tutta la moltitudine cercava di toccarlo, perciocchè virtù usciva di lui, e [li] sanava tutti.
and everyone in the crowd was trying to touch him, because a power went out from him which restored them all.
20 Ed egli, alzati gli occhi verso i suoi discepoli, diceva: Beati [voi], poveri, perciocchè il regno di Dio è vostro.
Then, raising his eyes and looking at his disciples, Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Beati [voi], che ora avete fame, perciocchè sarete saziati. Beati [voi], che ora piangete, perciocchè voi riderete.
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
22 Voi sarete beati, quando gli uomini vi avranno odiati, e vi avranno scomunicati, e vituperati, ed avranno bandito il vostro nome, come malvagio, per cagion del Figliuol dell'uomo.
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they expel you from among them, and insult you, and reject your name as an evil thing – because of the Son of Man.
23 Rallegratevi, e saltate di letizia in quel giorno; perciocchè, ecco, il vostro premio è grande nei cieli; poichè il simigliante fecero i padri loro a' profeti.
Then indeed you may be glad and dance for joy, for be sure that your reward in heaven will be great; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets.
24 Ma, guai a voi, ricchi! perciocchè voi avete la vostra consolazione.
But alas for you who are rich, for you have had your comforts in full.
25 Guai a voi, che siete ripieni! perciocchè voi avrete fame. Guai a voi, che ora ridete! perciocchè voi farete cordoglio, e piangerete.
Alas for you who are sated now, for you will hunger. Alas for you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
26 Guai [a voi], quando tutti gli uomini diranno bene di voi! poichè il simigliante fecero i padri loro a' falsi profeti.
Alas for you when everyone speaks well of you; for this is what their ancestors did to the false prophets.
27 Ma io dico a voi che udite: Amate i vostri nemici; fate bene a coloro che vi odiano;
But to you who hear I say – love your enemies, show kindness to those who hate you,
28 benedite coloro che vi maledicono; e pregate per coloro che vi molestano.
bless those who curse you, pray for those who insult you.
29 Se alcuno ti percuote su di una guancia, porgi[gli] eziandio l'altra; e non divietar colui che ti toglie il mantello [di prendere] ancora la tonica.
When someone gives one of you a blow on the cheek, offer the other cheek as well; and, when anyone takes away your cloak, do not keep back your coat either.
30 E da' a chiunque ti chiede; e se alcuno ti toglie il tuo, non ridomandarglielo.
Give to everyone who asks of you; and, when anyone takes away what is yours, do not demand its return.
31 E, come voi volete che gli uomini vi facciano, fate ancor loro simigliantemente.
Do to others as you wish them to do to you.
32 E se amate coloro che vi amano, che grazia ne avrete? poichè i peccatori ancora amano coloro che li amano.
If you love only those who love you, what thanks will be due to you? Why, even the outcast love those who love them!
33 E se fate bene a coloro che fan bene a voi, che grazia ne avrete? poichè i peccatori fanno il simigliante.
For, if you show kindness only to those who show kindness to you, what thanks will be due to you? Even the outcast do that!
34 E se prestate a coloro da' quali sperate riaverlo, che grazie ne avrete? poichè i peccatori prestano a' peccatori, per riceverne altrettanto.
If you lend only to those from whom you expect to get something, what thanks will be due to you? Even the outcast lend to the outcast in the hope of getting as much in return!
35 Ma voi, amate i vostri nemici, e fate bene, e prestate, non isperandone nulla; e il vostro premio sarà grande, e sarete i figliuoli dell'Altissimo; poichè egli è benigno inverso gl'ingrati, e malvagi.
But love your enemies, and show them kindness, and lend to them, never despairing. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the thankless and the bad.
36 Siate adunque misericordiosi, siccome ancora il Padre vostro è misericordioso.
Learn to be merciful – even as your Father is merciful.
37 E non giudicate, e non sarete giudicati; non condannate, e non sarete condannati; rimettete, e vi sarà rimesso.
Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38 Date, e vi sarà dato; buona misura, premuta, scossa, e traboccante, vi sarà data in seno; perciocchè, di qual misura misurate, sarà altresì misurato a voi.
Give, and others will give to you. A generous measure, pressed and shaken down, and running over, will they pour into your lap; for the standard you use will be the standard used for you.”
39 Or egli disse loro una similitudine. Può un cieco guidar per la via un [altro] cieco? non caderanno essi amendue nella fossa?
Then, speaking in parables, Jesus said, “Can one blind person guide another? Will they not both fall into a ditch?
40 Niun discepolo è da più del suo maestro; ma ogni [discepolo] perfetto dev'essere come il suo maestro.
A student is not above their teacher; yet every finished student will be like their teacher.
41 Ora, che guardi tu il fuscello ch' [è] nell'occhio del tuo fratello, e non iscorgi la trave ch' [è] nell'occhio tuo proprio?
And why do you look at the speck of sawdust in someone’s eye, while you pay no attention at all to the plank of wood in your own?
42 Ovvero, come puoi dire al tuo fratello: Fratello, lascia che io ti tragga il fuscello ch' [è] nell'occhio tuo; non veggendo tu stesso la trave ch' [è] nell'occhio tuo proprio? Ipocrita, trai prima dell'occhio tuo la trave, ed allora ci vedrai bene per trarre il fuscello, ch' [è] nell'occhio del tuo fratello.
How can you say to your friend ‘Friend, let me take out the speck in your eye,’ while you yourself do not see the plank in your own? Hypocrite! Take out the plank from your own eye first, and then you will see clearly how to take out the speck in your friend’s.
43 Perciocchè non vi è buon albero, che faccia frutto cattivo; nè albero cattivo, che faccia buon frutto.
There is no such thing as a good tree bearing worthless fruit, or, on the other hand, a worthless tree bearing good fruit.
44 Perciocchè ogni albero è riconosciuto dal proprio frutto; poichè non si colgono fichi dalle spine, e non si vendemmiano uve dal pruno.
For every tree is known by its own fruit. People do not gather figs off thorn bushes, nor pick a bunch of grapes off a bramble.
45 L'uomo buono, dal buon tesoro del suo cuore, reca fuori il bene; e l'uomo malvagio, dal malvagio tesoro del suo cuore, reca fuori il male; perciocchè la sua bocca parla di ciò che gli soprabbonda nel cuore.
A good person, from the good stores of their heart, brings out what is good; while a bad person, from their bad stores, brings out what is bad. For what fills someone’s heart will rise to their lips.
46 Ora, perchè mi chiamate Signore, e non fate le cose che io dico?
Why do you call me ‘Master! Master!’ and yet fail to do what I tell you?
47 Chiunque viene a me, e ode le mie parole, e le mette ad effetto, io vi mostrerò a cui egli è simile.
Everyone who comes to me and listens to my teaching and acts on it – I will show you to whom they may be compared.
48 Egli è simile ad un uomo che edifica una casa, il quale ha cavato, e profondato, ed ha posto il fondamento sopra la pietra; ed essendo venuta una piena, il torrente ha urtata quella casa, e non l' ha potuta scrollare, perciocchè era fondata in su la pietra.
They may be compared to a person building a house, who dug, and went deep, and laid the foundation on the rock. Then, when a flood came, the river swept down on that house, but had no power to shake it, because it had been built well.
49 Ma chi le ha udite, e non le ha messe ad effetto, è simile ad un uomo che ha edificata una casa sopra la terra, senza fondamento; la quale il torrente avendo urtata, ella è di subito caduta, e la sua ruina è stata grande.
But those who have listened and not acted on what they have heard may be compared to a person who built a house on the ground without any foundation. The river swept down on it, and the house immediately collapsed; and great was the crash that followed.”
