1 OR Sansone discese in Timnat, e vide quivi una donna delle figliuole de' Filistei.
Nowe Samson went downe to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistims,
2 E, ritornato [a casa], dichiarò [il fatto] a suo padre e a sua madre, dicendo: Io ho veduta in Timnat una donna delle figliuole de' Filistei; ora dunque, prendetemela per moglie.
And he came vp and told his father and his mother and saide, I haue seene a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistims: now therfore giue me her to wife.
3 E suo padre e sua madre gli dissero: Non [v'è] egli alcuna donna fra le figliuole de' tuoi fratelli, o fra tutto il nostro popolo, che tu vada a prendere una moglie d'infra i Filistei incirconcisi? Ma Sansone disse a suo padre: Prendimi costei; perciocchè ella piace a' miei occhi.
Then his father and his mother sayde vnto him, Is there neuer a wife among the daughters of thy brethren, and among all my people, that thou must go to take a wife of the vncircumcised Philistims? And Samson sayd vnto his father, Giue mee her, for she pleaseth me well.
4 Or suo padre e sua madre non sapevano che questa cosa [procedesse] dal Signore; perciocchè egli cercava che i Filistei gli dessero cagione. Or in quel tempo i Filistei signoreggiavano sopra Israele.
But his father and his mother knewe not that it came of the Lord, that he should seeke an occasion against the Philistims: for at that time the Philistims reigned ouer Israel.
5 Sansone adunque, con suo padre e con sua madre, discese in Timnat; e, come furono giunti alle vigne di Timnat, ecco, un leoncello [veniva] ruggendo incontro a lui.
Then went Samson and his father and his mother downe to Timnath, and came to ye vineyardes at Timnath: and beholde, a young Lyon roared vpon him.
6 E lo Spirito del Signore si avventò sopra Sansone, ed egli lacerò quel [leoncello], come se avesse lacerato un capretto, senza aver cosa alcuna in mano; e non dichiarò a suo padre, nè a sua madre, ciò ch'egli avea fatto.
And the Spirit of the Lord came vpon him, and he tare him, as one should haue rent a kid, and had nothing in his hand, neither told he his father nor his mother what he had done.
7 Poi discese, e parlò alla donna, ed ella piacque agli occhi di Sansone.
And he went down, and talked with the woman which was beautifull in the eyes of Samson.
8 E alquanti giorni appresso, tornando per menarla, si torse [dalla via], per vedere la carogna del leone; ed ecco, dentro della carogna del leone v'era uno sciame d'api, e del miele.
And within a fewe dayes, when he returned to receiue her, he went aside to see the karkeis of the Lion: and behold, there was a swarme of bees, and hony in the body of the Lyon.
9 Ed egli ne prese nelle palme delle mani, e ne andava mangiando; e andò a suo padre e a sua madre, e ne diede loro, ed essi ne mangiarono; ma non dichiarò loro che avesse tolto il miele dalla carogna del leone.
And he tooke therof in his handes, and went eating, and came to his father and to his mother, and gaue vnto them, and they did eate: but hee told not them, that he had taken the hony out of the body of the lyon.
10 Suo padre adunque discese alla donna; e Sansone fece quivi un convito; perciocchè così solevano fare i giovani.
So his father went down vnto the woman, and Samson made there a feast: for so vsed the yong men to doe.
11 E, come [i Filistei] l'ebbero veduto, presero trenta compagni per esser con lui.
And when they sawe him, they brought thirtie companions to be with him.
12 E Sansone disse loro: Io vi proporrò ora un enimma; e se pur voi me lo dichiarate infra i sette giorni del convito, e lo rinvenite, io vi darò trenta panni lini, e trenta mute di vesti;
Then Samson sayd vnto them, I will nowe put forth a riddle vnto you: and if you can declare it me within seuen dayes of the feast, and finde it out, I will giue you thirty sheetes, and thirtie change of garments.
13 ma, se voi non potete dichiararmelo, mi darete trenta panni lini, e trenta mute di vesti. Ed essi gli dissero: Proponi pure il tuo enimma, che noi l'udiamo.
But if you cannot declare it mee, then shall yee giue mee thirty sheetes and thirtie change of garments. And they answered him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may heare it.
14 Ed egli disse loro: Da colui che divorava è uscito del cibo, e dal forte è uscita della dolcezza. E per [lo spazio di] tre giorni essi non poterono dichiarar l'enimma.
And he sayd vnto them, Out of the eater came meate, and out of the strong came sweetenesse: and they could not in three dayes expound the riddle.
15 E, al settimo giorno, dopo ch'ebbero detto alla moglie di Sansone: Induci il tuo marito a dichiararci l'enimma, che talora noi non bruciamo col fuoco te, e la casa di tuo padre; che? ci avete voi chiamati per avere il nostro?
And when the seuenth day was come, they said vnto Samsons wife, Entise thine husband, that he may declare vs the riddle, lest wee burne thee and thy fathers house with fire. Haue ye called vs, to possesse vs? is it not so?
16 e che la moglie di Sansone gli ebbe pianto appresso, e dettogli: Tu mi hai pure in odio, e non mi ami; non hai tu proposto un enimma a' figliuoli del mio popolo? e tu non me l'hai dichiarato; e ch'egli le ebbe detto: Ecco, io non l'ho dichiarato nè a mio padre, nè a mia madre, e lo dichiarerei a te?
And Samsons wife wept before him, and said, Surely thou hatest mee and louest mee not: for thou hast put forth a riddle vnto the children of my people, and hast not told it mee. And hee sayd vnto her, Beholde, I haue not told it my father, nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
17 e ch'ella gli ebbe pianto appresso per lo spazio de' sette giorni, che fu loro fatto il convito; al settimo giorno egli glielo dichiarò, perchè lo premeva; ed ella dichiarò l'enimma ai figliuoli del suo popolo.
Then Samsons wife wept before him seuen dayes, while their feast lasted: and when the seuenth day came he tolde her, because she was importunate vpon him: so she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18 Laonde gli uomini della città dissero a Sansone al settimo giorno, avanti che il sole tramontasse: Che cosa [è] più dolce che il miele? e chi [è] più forte che il leone? Ed egli disse loro: Se voi non aveste arato con la mia giovenca, non avreste rinvenuto il mio enimma.
And the men of ye citie sayde vnto him the seuenth day before the Sunne went downe, What is sweeter then honie? and what is stronger then a lyon? Then sayd hee vnto them, If yee had not plowed with my heiffer, yee had not found out my riddle.
19 E lo Spirito del Signore si avventò sopra lui, ed egli discese in Ascalon, e uccise trenta nomini di quella gente, e prese le loro spoglie, e diede quelle mute di vesti a quelli che aveano dichiarato l'enimma. Ed egli si accese nell'ira, e se ne ritornò alla casa di suo padre.
And the Spirite of the Lord came vpon him, and he went downe to Ashkelon, and slew thirtie men of them and spoyled them, and gaue chaunge of garments vnto them, which expounded the riddle: and his wrath was kindled, and he went vp to his fathers house.
20 E la moglie di Sansone fu [data] al compagno di esso, il quale era il suo intimo amico.
Then Samsons wife was giuen to his companion, whom he had vsed as his friend.
