Giovanni 10
1 IN verità, in verità, io vi dico, che chi non entra per la porta nell'ovile delle pecore, ma vi sale altronde, esso è rubatore, e ladrone.
VERILY, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheep-fold, but getteth in some other way, that person is a thief and a robber.
2 Ma chi entra per la porta è pastor delle pecore.
He that entereth by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3 A costui apre il portinaio, e le pecore ascoltano la sua voce, ed egli chiama le sue pecore per nome, e le conduce fuori.
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own peculiar sheep by name, and leadeth them forth.
4 E quando ha messe fuori le sue pecore, va davanti a loro, e le pecore lo seguitano, perciocchè conoscono la sua voce.
And when he bringeth out his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: because they know his voice.
5 Ma non seguiteranno lo straniero, anzi se ne fuggiranno da lui, perciocchè non conoscono la voce degli stranieri.
And a stranger will they not follow, but will fly from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
6 Questa similitudine disse loro Gesù; ma essi non riconobbero quali fosser le cose ch'egli ragionava loro.
This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they knew nothing of the things which he spake to them.
7 Laonde Gesù da capo disse loro: In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che io son la porta delle pecore.
Therefore Jesus said unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that I am the door of the sheep.
8 Tutti quanti coloro che son venuti sono stati rubatori, e ladroni; ma le pecore non li hanno ascoltati.
All, as many as have gone before me, are thieves and robbers: but the sheep hearkened not to them.
9 Io son la porta; se alcuno entra per me, sarà salvato, ed entrerà, ed uscirà, e troverà pastura.
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved; and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 Il ladro non viene se non per rubare, ed ammazzare, e distrugger [le pecore; ma] io son venuto acciocchè abbiano vita, ed abbondino.
The thief cometh not but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
11 Io sono il buon pastore; il buon pastore mette la sua vita per le pecore.
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep.
12 Ma il mercenario, e quel che non è pastore, e di cui non son le pecore, [se] vede venire il lupo, abbandona le pecore, e sen fugge; e il lupo le rapisce, e disperge le pecore.
But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own property the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth; and the wolf seizes upon them, and disperseth the sheep.
13 Or il mercenario se ne fugge, perciocchè egli è mercenario, e non si cura delle pecore.
Now the hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14 Io sono il buon pastore, e conosco le mie [pecore], e son conosciuto dalle mie.
I am the good shepherd, and know my own sheep, and am known of my own.
15 Siccome il Padre mi conosce, ed io conosco il Padre; e metto la mia vita per le [mie] pecore.
As the Father knoweth me, so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 Io ho anche delle altre pecore, che non son di quest'ovile; quelle ancora mi conviene addurre, ed esse udiranno la mia voce; e vi sarà una sola greggia, [ed] un sol pastore.
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: these also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, one shepherd.
17 Per questo mi ama il Padre, perciocchè io metto la vita mia, per ripigliarla poi.
Therefore doth the Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.
18 Niuno me la toglie, ma io da me stesso la dipongo; io ho podestà di diporla, ed ho altresì podestà di ripigliarla; questo comandamento ho ricevuto dal Padre mio.
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment I have received from my Father.
19 Perciò nacque di nuovo dissensione tra i Giudei, per queste parole.
There was therefore a division again among the Jews, on account of these sayings.
20 E molti di loro dicevano: Egli ha il demonio, ed è forsennato; perchè l'ascoltate voi?
Then many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hearken to him?
21 Altri dicevano: Queste parole non son d'un indemoniato; può il demonio aprir gli occhi de' ciechi?
Others said, These are not the discourses of a demoniac. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
22 OR la [festa della] dedicazione si fece in Gerusalemme, ed era di verno.
Then was the feast of dedication at Jerusalem, and it was winter.
23 E Gesù passeggiava nel tempio, nel portico di Salomone.
And Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon’s portico.
24 I Giudei adunque l'intorniarono, e gli dissero: Infino a quando terrai sospesa l'anima nostra? Se tu sei il Cristo, diccelo apertamente.
Then the Jews came about him, and said to him, How long dost thou keep our soul in suspense? If thou art the Messiah, tell us plainly.
25 Gesù rispose loro: Io ve [l]'ho detto, e voi nol credete; le opere, che io fo nel nome del Padre mio, son quelle che testimoniano di me.
Jesus answered them; I told you, and ye believed not: the works which I do in the name of my Father, they bear witness of me.
26 Ma voi non credete, perciocchè non siete delle mie pecore, come io vi ho detto.
But ye believe not, for ye are not of my sheep, as I told you.
27 Le mie pecore ascoltano la mia voce, ed io le conosco, ed esse mi seguitano.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
29 Il Padre mio, che me [le] ha date, è maggior di tutti; e niuno [le] può rapire di man del Padre mio.
My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all and no one shall pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
30 Io ed il Padre siamo una stessa cosa.
I and my Father are one.
31 Perciò i Giudei levarono di nuovo delle pietre, per lapidarlo.
Then the Jews again brought stones, in order to stone him.
32 Gesù rispose loro: Io vi ho fatte veder molte buone opere, [procedenti] dal Padre mio; per quale di esse mi lapidate voi?
Jesus said unto them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which work of these are ye going to stone me?
33 I Giudei gli risposero, dicendo: Noi non ti lapidiamo per alcuna buona opera, anzi per bestemmia, perciocchè tu, essendo uomo, ti fai Dio.
The Jews answered him, For a good work we do not stone thee; but for blasphemy; and that thou, being merely a man, makest thyself God.
34 Gesù rispose loro: Non è egli scritto nella vostra legge: Io ho detto: Voi siete dii?
Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, “I said ye are gods?”
35 Se chiama dii coloro, a' quali la parola di Dio è stata [indirizzata]; e la scrittura non può essere annullata;
If he called those gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 dite voi che io, il quale il Padre ha santificato, ed ha mandato nel mondo, bestemmio, perciocchè ho detto: Io son Figliuolo di Dio?
do ye say of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest because I said, I am the Son of God?
37 Se io non fo le opere del Padre mio, non crediatemi.
If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
38 Ma, s'io [le] fo, benchè non crediate a me, credete alle opere, acciocchè conosciate, e crediate che il Padre è in me, e ch'io [sono] in lui.
But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
39 Essi adunque di nuovo cercavano di pigliarlo; ma egli uscì dalle lor mani.
Then sought they again to apprehend him and he departed out of their reach,
40 E se ne andò di nuovo di là dal Giordano, al luogo ove Giovanni prima battezzava; e quivi dimorò.
and went again beyond Jordan, unto the place where John at first baptised; and there he abode.
41 E molti vennero a lui, e dicevano: Giovanni certo non fece alcun miracolo; ma pure, tutte le cose che Giovanni disse di costui eran vere.
And many came to him, and said, That John indeed performed no miracle: but all things whatsoever John spake of this man were true.
42 E quivi molti credettero in lui.
And many believed on him there.
