Giobbe 8

1 E BILDAD Suhita rispose, e disse:

And Bildad the Shuhite answereth and saith: —

2 Infino a quando proferirai tali ragionamenti, E [saranno] le parole della tua bocca [come] un vento impetuoso?

Till when dost thou speak these things? And a strong wind — sayings of thy mouth?

3 Iddio pervertirebbe egli il giudicio? L'Onnipotente pervertirebbe egli la giustizia?

Doth God pervert judgment? And doth the Mighty One pervert justice?

4 Se i tuoi figliuoli hanno peccato contro a lui, Egli altresì li ha dati in mano del lor misfatto.

If thy sons have sinned before Him, And He doth send them away, By the hand of their transgression,

5 [Ma] quant'è a te, se tu ricerchi Iddio, E chiedi grazia all'Onnipotente;

If thou dost seek early unto God, And unto the Mighty makest supplication,

6 Se tu [sei] puro e diritto, Certamente egli si risveglierà di presente in favor tuo, E farà prosperare il tuo giusto abitacolo.

If pure and upright thou [art], Surely now He waketh for thee, And hath completed The habitation of thy righteousness.

7 E la tua condizione di prima sarà stata piccola, E l'ultima diventerà grandissima.

And thy beginning hath been small, And thy latter end is very great.

8 Perciocchè domanda pur le età primiere, E disponti ad informarti da' padri loro;

For, ask I pray thee of a former generation, And prepare to a search of their fathers,

9 Imperocchè, quant'è a noi, [siamo sol da] ieri in qua, E non abbiamo intendimento; Perchè i nostri giorni [son] come un'ombra sopra la terra;

(For of yesterday we [are], and we know not, For a shadow [are] our days on earth.)

10 Non insegnerannoti essi, [e non] parlerannoti, E non trarranno essi fuori ragionamenti dal cuor loro?

Do they not shew thee — speak to thee, And from their heart bring forth words?

11 Il giunco sorgerà egli senza pantano? L'erba de' prati crescerà ella senz'acqua?

'Doth a rush wise without mire? A reed increase without water?

12 E pure, mentre [è] ancor verde, e non [è] ancora segata, Si secca avanti ogni [altra] erba.

While it [is] in its budding — uncropped, Even before any herb it withereth.

13 Tali [son] le vie di tutti quelli che dimenticano Iddio, E [così] perirà la speranza dell'ipocrita;

So [are] the paths of all forgetting God, And the hope of the profane doth perish,

14 La cui speranza sarà troncata, E la cui confidanza [sarà] una casa di ragnolo.

Whose confidence is loathsome, And the house of a spider his trust.

15 Egli si appoggerà in su la casa sua, ma quella non istarà ferma; Egli si atterrà ad essa, ma ella non istarà in piè.

He leaneth on his house — and it standeth not: He taketh hold on it — and it abideth not.

16 [Egli] è verdeggiante al sole, E i suoi rami si spandono fuori in sul giardino, nel quale è piantato;

Green he [is] before the sun, And over his garden his branch goeth out.

17 Le sue radici s'intralciano presso alla fonte, Egli mira la casa di pietra.

By a heap his roots are wrapped, A house of stones he looketh for.

18 Ma, se alcuno lo manderà in ruina, [divellendolo dal luogo suo], [Questo] lo rinnegherà dicendo: Io non ti vidi [giammai].

If [one] doth destroy him from his place, Then it hath feigned concerning him, I have not seen thee!

19 Ecco, tale [è] l'allegrezza della sua via, E dalla polvere ne germoglieranno altri.

Lo, this [is] the joy of his way, And from the dust others spring up.'

20 Ecco, Iddio non disdegna l'[uomo] intiero; Ma altresì non presta la mano a' maligni.

Lo, God doth not reject the perfect, Nor taketh hold on the hand of evil doers.

21 Ancora empierà egli la tua bocca di riso, E le tue labbra di giubilo.

While he filleth with laughter thy mouth, And thy lips with shouting,

22 Quelli che ti odiano saranno vestiti di vergogna; Ma il tabernacolo degli empi non sarà [più].

Those hating thee do put on shame, And the tent of the wicked is not!
