Giobbe 5
1 Grida pure, vi sarà egli alcuno che ti risponda? Ed a cui d'infra i santi ti rivolgerai tu?
Call out now; is there anyone who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
2 Conciossiachè il cruccio uccida il pazzo, E lo sdegno faccia morir lo stolto.
For anger kills the foolish man; jealousy kills the silly one.
3 Io ho veduto il pazzo che si radicava; Ma incontanente ho maledetto il suo abitacolo.
I have seen a foolish person taking root, but suddenly I cursed his home.
4 I suoi figliuoli son lungi dalla salvezza, E sono oppressati nella porta, senza che alcuno li riscuota.
His children are far from safety; they are crushed in the city gate. There is no one to rescue them.
5 L'affamato divora la ricolta di esso, E la rapisce di mezzo le spine; E i ladroni trangugiano le sue facoltà.
The hungry eat up their harvest; they even take it from among the thorns. The thirsty pant for their wealth.
6 Perciocchè la sventura non ispunta dalla polvere, E il dolore non germoglia dalla terra;
For difficulties do not come out from the soil; neither does trouble sprout from the ground.
7 Benchè l'uomo nasca per soffrire, Come le faville delle brace per volare in alto.
Instead, mankind is born for trouble, just as sparks fly upward.
8 Ma quant'è a me, io ricercherei pure Iddio, Ed addirizzerei il mio ragionamento a Dio;
But as for me, I would turn to God himself; to him I would commit my cause—
9 Il quale fa cose sì grandi, che non si posson investigare; E tante cose maravigliose, che non si possono annoverare;
he who does great and unsearchable things, marvelous things without number.
10 Che manda la pioggia in su la terra, E le acque in su le campagne;
He gives rain on the earth, and sends water on the fields.
11 [Che] innalza i bassi, E fa che quelli ch'erano in duolo sono esaltati per salvazione;
He does this in order to set up on high those who are low; to raise to safety those who mourn.
12 Che disperde i pensieri degli astuti, E [fa che] le lor mani non possono far nulla di bene ordinato.
He breaks the plans of the crafty people, so that their hands cannot achieve success.
13 Egli soprapprende i savi nella loro astuzia, E [fa] che il consiglio de' perversi va in ruina.
He traps wise people in their own crafty actions; the plans of twisted people are hurried to their end.
14 Di giorno scontrano tenebre, E in pien mezzodì vanno a tentone come di notte.
They encounter darkness in the daytime, and grope at noonday as if it were night.
15 Ma egli salva il bisognoso dalla spada, Dalla gola loro, e dalla mano del possente.
But he saves the poor person from the sword in their mouths and the needy person from the hand of mighty people.
16 E vi è qualche speranza per lo misero; Ma l'iniquità ha la bocca turata.
So the poor person has hope, and injustice shuts her own mouth.
17 Ecco, beato [è] l'uomo, il quale Iddio castiga; E però non disdegnar la correzione dell'Onnipotente.
See, blessed is the man whom God corrects; therefore, do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
18 Perciocchè egli è quel che manda la doglia e altresì [la] fascia; Egli è quel che fa la piaga, e le sue mani altresì guariscono.
For he wounds and then binds up; he wounds and then his hands heal.
19 In sei afflizioni egli ti libererà, Ed in sette il male non ti toccherà.
He will rescue you out of six troubles; indeed, in seven troubles, no evil will touch you.
20 In [tempo di] fame egli ti riscoterà dalla morte, E in tempo di guerra dalla spada.
In famine he will ransom you from death, and in war from the hands of the sword.
21 Al [tempo del] flagello della lingua tu sarai nascosto; E non temerai la desolazione, quando verrà.
You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; and you will not be afraid of destruction when it comes.
22 Tu riderai del guasto e della carestia; E non temerai delle fiere della terra.
You will laugh at destruction and famine, and you will not be afraid of beasts of the earth.
23 Perciocchè tu avrai patto eziandio con le pietre de' campi; E le fiere della campagna ti saranno rendute pacifiche.
For you will have a covenant with the stones in your field, and the beasts of the field will be at peace with you.
24 E tu conoscerai per prova che il tuo padiglione [non sarà] se non pace, E governerai la tua casa, e nulla ti verrà fallito.
You will know that your tent is in safety; you will visit your sheepfold and you will not miss anything.
25 E riconoscerai che la tua progenie [sarà] molta, E che i tuoi discendenti [saranno] come l'erba della terra.
You will also know that your seed will be great, that your offspring will be like the grass on the ground.
26 Tu entrerai in estrema vecchiezza nel sepolcro, Come la bica delle biade è accumulata al suo tempo.
You will come to your grave at a full age, like a stack of grain bundles that goes up at its time.
27 Ecco [ciò noi ti diciamo]; noi l'abbiamo investigato; egli [è] così; Ascoltalo, e riconoscilo.
See, we have examined this matter; it is like this; listen to it, and know it for yourself.”
