Giobbe 24
1 Perchè non [dirassi che] i tempi sono occultati dall'Onnipotente, E [che] quelli che lo conoscono, non veggono i suoi giorni?
Why, seeing times [are] not hid from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?
2 [Gli empi] muovono i termini, Rapiscono le gregge, e [le] pasturano;
[Some] remove the landmarks: they violently take away flocks, and [their] feed.
3 Menano via l'asino degli orfani; Prendono in pegno il bue della vedova;
They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.
4 Fanno torcere i bisognosi dalla via, I poveri della terra si nascondono tutti.
They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
5 Ecco, [son simili ad] asini salvatici nel deserto: Escono al lor mestiere, si levano la mattina [per andare] alla preda; La campagna [è] il lor pane, per li [lor] fantini.
Behold, [as] wild asses in the desert, they go forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness [yieldeth] food for them [and] for [their] children.
6 Mietono il campo, E vendemmiano la vigna [che] non [è] loro.
They reap [every one] his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.
7 Fanno passar la notte agl'ignudi senza vestimenti, Sì che non [hanno] con che coprirsi al freddo.
They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that [they have] no covering in the cold.
8 Sono bagnati dalle acque che traboccano da' monti; E per mancamento di ricetto, abbracciano i sassi.
They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.
9 Rapiscono l'orfano dalla poppa, E prendono pegno dal povero.
They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.
10 Fanno andar gl'ignudi senza vestimenti; E quelli che portano [loro] le manelle delle biade soffrono fame.
They cause [him] to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf [from] the hungry;
11 [Quelli che] spremono [loro] l'olio intra i lor muri, [E quelli che] calcano ne' torcoli soffrono sete.
[Who] make oil within their walls, [and] tread [their] wine-presses, and suffer thirst.
12 Gli uomini gemono dalla città E l'anima de' feriti a morte sclama; E pure Iddio non appone [loro] alcun fallo.
Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly [to them].
13 Essi son di quelli che son ribelli alla luce, Non conoscono le sue vie, E non si fermano ne' suoi sentieri.
They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not its ways, nor abide in its paths.
14 Il micidiale si leva allo schiarir del dì Uccide il povero, e il bisognoso; E poi la notte opera da ladro.
The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.
15 Parimente l'occhio dell'adultero osserva la sera, Dicendo: L'occhio [di alcuno] non mi scorgerà; E si nasconde la faccia.
The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth [his] face.
16 Di notte sconficcano le case, [Che] si aveano segnate di giorno; Non conoscono la luce,
In the dark they dig through houses, [which] they had marked for themselves in the day-time: they know not the light.
17 Perciocchè la mattina [è] ad essi tutti ombra di morte; Se [alcuno li] riconosce, [hanno] spaventi dell'ombra della morte.
For the morning [is] to them even as the shades of death: if [one] knoweth [them], [they are in] the terrors of the shades of death.
18 Fuggono leggermente, [come] in su le acque; La lor parte è maledetta nella terra, Non riguardano alla via delle vigne.
He [is] swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.
19 La secchezza e il caldo involano le acque della neve; [Così] il sepolcro [invola] quelli che hanno peccato. (Sheol h7585)
Drouth and heat consume the snow-waters: [so doth] the grave [those who] have sinned. (Sheol h7585)
20 La matrice li dimentica, I vermini son loro dolci, Non son più ricordati; Anzi i perversi son rotti come un legno.
The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.
21 E benchè tormentino la sterile [che non] partorisce, E non facciano alcun bene alla vedova;
He oppresseth the barren [that] beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.
22 E traggano giù i possenti con la lor forza; [E, quando] si levano, [altri] non si assicuri della vita;
He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no [man] is sure of life.
23 Pur nondimeno [Iddio] dà loro a che potersi sicuramente appoggiare, E gli occhi suoi [sono] sopra le lor vie.
[Though] it is given him [to be] in safety, on which he resteth; yet his eyes [are] upon their ways.
24 Per un poco di tempo sono innalzati, poi non [son] più; Sono abbattuti, [e] trapassano come tutti [gli altri], E son ricisi come la sommità d'una spiga.
They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all [others], and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
25 Se ora egli non [è così], chi mi dimentirà, E metterà al niente il mio ragionamento?
And if [it is] not [so] now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech of no worth?
