Giobbe 23
1 E GIOBBE rispose, e disse:
Then responded Job, and said: —
2 Ancor oggi il mio lamento [è] ribellione; [Benchè] la mia piaga sia aggravata sopra i miei sospiri.
Even to-day, is my complaint rebellion? His hand, is heavier than my groaning.
3 Oh! sapessi io pure ove trovare [Iddio!] Io andrei infino al suo trono;
Oh that I knew where I might find him! I would come even unto his dwelling-place;
4 Io sporrei per ordine la mia ragione nel suo cospetto, Ed empierei la mia bocca di argomenti;
I would set out, before him, a plea, and, my mouth, would I fill with arguments;
5 Io saprei le parole ch'egli mi risponderebbe, E intenderei ciò ch'egli mi direbbe.
I would note the words wherewith he would respond to me, and would mark what he would say to me.
6 Contenderebbe egli meco con grandezza di forza? No; anzi egli avrebbe riguardo a me.
Would he, with fulness of might, contend with me? Nay, surely, he, would give heed to me!
7 Ivi l'uomo diritto verrebbe a ragione con lui, Ed io sarei in perpetuo liberato dal mio giudice.
There an upright man, might reason with him, so should I deliver myself completely from my judge.
8 Ecco, [se] io vo innanzi, egli non [vi è]; Se indietro, io non lo scorgo;
Behold! eastward, I go, but he is not there, and, westward, but I perceive him not;
9 [Se a man] sinistra, quando egli opera, io nol veggo; [Se a man] destra, egli si nasconde, ed io non posso vederlo.
On the north, where he worketh, but I get no vision, He hideth himself on the south that I cannot see him.
10 Quando egli avrà conosciuta la mia via, E mi avrà esaminato, io uscirò fuori come oro.
But, he, knoweth the way that I choose, Having tried me, as gold, I shall come forth.
11 Il mio piè si è attenuto alle sue pedate; Io ho guardata la sua via, e non me ne son rivolto.
Of his steps, my foot taketh hold, His way, have I kept, and not swerved;
12 Ed anche non ho rimosso [d'innanzi a me] il comandamento delle sue labbra; Io ho riposte appo me le parole della sua bocca, Più [caramente] che la mia provvisione ordinaria.
The command of his lips, and would not go back, and, in my bosom, have I treasured the words of his lips.
13 Ma, [se] egli [è] in un [proponimento], chi ne lo storrà? Se l'anima sua desidera [di fare una cosa], egli la farà.
But, he, is one, and who can turn him? What his soul desired, he hath done.
14 Egli certo compierà ciò ch'egli ha statuito di me; E molte tali cose [sono] appo lui.
Surely he will accomplish what is decreed for me, and, many such things, hath he in store.
15 Perciò io sono smarrito per cagion di lui; [Se] io ci penso, io ho spavento di lui.
For this cause, from his presence, am I driven in fear, I diligently consider and am kept back from him in dread:
16 Certo Iddio mi ha fatto struggere il cuore, E l'Onnipotente mi ha conturbato.
Yea, GOD, hath made timid my heart, and, the Almighty, hath put me in terror.
17 Perchè non sono io stato troncato, per non veder le tenebre? E [perchè] ha egli nascosta l'oscurità d'innanzi a me?
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, nor, before my face, did the gloom form a shroud.
