Giobbe 12
1 E GIOBBE rispose, e disse:
Then Job answered and said:
2 Sì, veramente voi [siete tutt]'un popolo, E la sapienza morrà con voi.
No doubt ye are the whole people! And wisdom will die with you!
3 Anch'io ho senno come voi; Io non sono da men di voi; Ed appo cui non [sono] cotali cose?
But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: Yea, who knoweth not such things as these?
4 Io son quell'uomo ch'è schernito dal suo amico; [Ma un tale] invoca Iddio, ed egli gli risponderà; L'uomo giusto ed intiero è schernito.
I am become a laughing-stock to my friend, —I who call upon God, that he would answer me! The innocent and upright man is held in derision.
5 Colui che sta per isdrucciolare col piè, [E], per estimazione di chi è felice, un tizzone sprezzato.
To calamity belongeth contempt in the mind of one at ease; It is ready for them that slip with the feet.
6 I tabernacoli de' ladroni prosperano, E [v'è] ogni sicurtà per quelli che dispettano Iddio, Nelle cui mani egli fa cadere [ciò che desiderano].
The tents of robbers are in prosperity, And they who provoke God are secure, Who carry their God in their hand.
7 E in vero, domandane pur le bestie, ed esse tu [l]'insegneranno; E gli uccelli del cielo, ed essi te [lo] dichiareranno;
For ask now the beasts, and they will teach thee; Or the fowls of the air, and they will tell thee;
8 Ovvero, ragiona[ne] con la terra, ed essa te [l]'insegnerà; I pesci del mare eziandio te [lo] racconteranno.
Or speak to the earth, and it will instruct thee; And the fishes of the sea will declare unto thee.
9 Fra tutte queste [creature], Quale [è quella che] non sappia che la mano del Signore fa questo?
Who among all these doth not know That the hand of Jehovah doeth these things?
10 Nella cui mano [è] l'anima d'ogni [uomo] vivente, E lo spirito d'ogni carne umana.
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind.
11 L'orecchio non prova egli le parole, Come il palato assapora le vivande?
Doth not the ear prove words, As the mouth tasteth meat?
12 Ne' vecchi [è] la sapienza, E nella grande età [è] la prudenza.
With the aged is wisdom, And with length of days is understanding.
13 Appo lui [è] la sapienza e la forza; A lui [appartiene] il consiglio e l'intelligenza.
With Him are wisdom and strength; With Him counsel and understanding.
14 Ecco, [se] egli ruina, [la cosa] non può esser riedificata; [Se] serra alcuno, non gli può essere aperto.
Lo! he pulleth down, and it shall not be rebuilt; He bindeth a man, and he shall not be set loose.
15 Ecco, [se] egli rattiene le acque, elle si seccano; E [se] le lascia scorrere, rivoltano la terra sottosopra.
Lo! he withholdeth the waters, and they are dried up; He sendeth them forth, and they lay waste the earth.
16 Appo lui [è] forza e ragione; A lui [appartiene] chi erra, e chi fa errare.
With him are strength and wisdom; The deceived and the deceiver are his.
17 Egli ne mena i consiglieri spogliati, E fa impazzare i giudici.
He leadeth counsellors away captive, And judges he maketh fools.
18 Egli scioglie il legame dei re, E stringe la cinghia sopra i lor [propri] lombi.
He looseth the authority of kings, And bindeth their loins with a cord.
19 Egli ne mena i rettori spogliati, E sovverte i possenti.
He leadeth priests away captive, And overthroweth the mighty.
20 Egli toglie la favella agli eloquenti, E leva il senno a' vecchi.
He removeth speech from the trusty, And taketh away judgment from the elders.
21 Egli spande lo sprezzo sopra i nobili, E rallenta la cintura de' possenti.
He poureth contempt upon princes, And looseth the girdle of the mighty.
22 Egli rivela le cose profonde, [traendole] fuor delle tenebre; E mette fuori alla luce l'ombra della morte.
He revealeth deep things out of darkness, And bringeth the shadow of death to light.
23 Egli accresce le nazioni, ed [altesì] le distrugge; Egli sparge le genti, ed [altresì] le riduce insieme.
He exalteth nations, and destroyeth them; He enlargeth nations, and leadeth them captive.
24 Egli toglie il senno a' capi de' popoli della terra, E li fa andar vagando per luoghi deserti, [ove] non [ha] via alcuna.
He taketh away the understanding of the great men of the land, And causeth them to wander in a wilderness, where is no path;
25 Vanno a tentone per le tenebre, senza luce alcuna: Ed egli li fa andare errando come un uomo ebbro.
They grope in the dark without light; He maketh them stagger like a drunken man.
