Geremia 21
1 LA parola, che fu dal Signore [indirizzata] a Geremia, quando il re Sedechia mandò a lui Pashur, figliuolo di Malchia, e Sefania, figliuolo di Maaseia, sacerdote, dicendo:
THE WORD THAT CAME FROM THE LORD TO JEREMIAS, WHEN KING SEDEKIAS SENT TO HIM PASCHOR THE SON OF MELCHIAS, AND SOPHONIAS SON OF BASAEAS, THE PRIEST, SAYING,
2 Deh! domanda per noi il Signore; perciocchè Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, guerreggia contro a noi; forse il Signore opererà inverso noi secondo tutte le sue maraviglie, e farà ch'egli si ritrarrà da noi.
Enquire of the Lord for us; for the king of Babylon has risen up against us; if the Lord will do according to all his wonderful works, and [the king] shall depart from us.
3 E Geremia disse loro: Così direte a Sedechia:
And Jeremias said to them, Thus shall you say to Sedekias king of Juda,
4 Il Signore Iddio d'Israele ha detto così: Ecco, io fo rivolgere indietro gli strumenti bellici, che [son] nelle vostre mani, co' quali voi combattete contro al re di Babilonia, e contro ai Caldei, che vi assediano di fuori delle mura; e li raccoglierò in mezzo di questa città.
Thus says the Lord; Behold, I [will] turn back the weapons of war wherewith you fight against the Chaldeans that have besieged you from outside the wall, and I will gather them into the midst of this city.
5 Ed io stesso combatterò contro a voi con man distesa, e con possente braccio, in ira, e in cruccio, e in grande indegnazione.
And I will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, with wrath and great anger.
6 E percoterò gli abitanti di questa città, gli uomini, e gli animali; [e] morranno di gran mortalità.
And I will strike all the dwellers in this city, [both] men and cattle, with grievous pestilence: and they shall die.
7 E poi appresso, dice il Signore, io darò Sedechia, re di Giuda, e i suoi servitori, e il popolo e quelli che saranno scampati in questa città dalla mortalità, e dalla spada, e dalla fame, in man di Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, e in mano de' lor nemici, e di quelli che cercano l'anima loro; ed egli li percoterà, [mettendoli] a fil di spada; egli non perdonerà loro e non li risparmierà, e non ne avrà pietà.
And after this, thus says the Lord; I will give Sedekias king of Juda, and his servants, and the people that is left in this city from the pestilence, and from the famine, and from the sword, into the hands of their enemies, that seek their lives: and they shall cut them in pieces with the edge of the sword: I will not spare them, and I will not have compassion upon them.
8 Ed a questo popolo di': Così ha detto il Signore: Ecco, io vi propongo la via della vita, e la via della morte.
And you shall say to this people, Thus says the Lord; Behold, I have set before you the way of life, and the way of death.
9 Coloro che dimoreranno in questa città morranno di spada, o di fame, o di pestilenza; ma quelli che andranno ad arrendersi a' Caldei, i quali vi assediano, viveranno, e l'anima loro sarà loro per ispoglia.
He that remains in this city shall die by the sword, and by famine: but he that goes forth to advance to the Chaldeans that have besieged you, shall live, and his life shall be to him for a spoil, and he shall live.
10 Perciocchè io ho volta la mia faccia contro a questa città, in male, e non in bene, dice il Signore; ella sarà messa in mano del re di Babilonia, ed egli l'arderà col fuoco.
For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good: it shall be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he shall consume it with fire.
11 Ed alla casa del re di Giuda [di': ] Ascoltate la parola del Signore:
O house of the king of Juda, hear you the word of the Lord.
12 O casa di Davide, così ha detto il Signore: Da mattina fate ragione, e riscotete di mano dell'oppressore colui a cui è tolto [il suo: ] che talora l'ira mia non esca a guisa di fuoco, ed arda, senza che alcuno la possa spegnere, per la malvagità dei vostri fatti.
O house of David, thus says the Lord; Judge judgement in the morning, and act rightly, and rescue the spoiled one from the hand of him that wrongs him, lest mine anger be kindled like fire, and it burn, and there be none to quench [it].
13 Eccomi a te, o abitatrice della valle, della rocca del piano, dice il Signore; a voi che dite: Chi potrebbe scendere sopra noi, e chi potrebbe entrar nelle nostre stanze?
Behold, I am against you that dwell in the valley of Sor; in the plain country, [even against] them that say, Who shall alarm us? or who shall enter into our habitation?
14 Ed io farò punizione di voi secondo il frutto de' vostri fatti, dice il Signore; ed accenderò un fuoco nella selva di quella, il quale consumerà tutto ciò che è d'intorno a lei.
And I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.
