Giacomo 2
1 FRATELLI miei, non abbiate la fede della gloria di Gesù Cristo, Signor nostro, con riguardi alle qualità delle persone.
Mi britheren, nyle ye haue the feith of oure Lord Jhesu Crist of glorie, in accepcioun of persoones.
2 Perciocchè, se nella vostra raunanza entra un uomo con l'anel d'oro, in vestimento splendido; e [v]'entra parimente un povero, in vestimento sozzo;
For if a man `that hath a goldun ring, and in a feire clothing, cometh in youre cumpany, and a pore man entrith in a foul clothing,
3 e voi riguardate a colui che porta il vestimento splendido, e gli dite: Tu, siedi qui onorevolmente; e al povero dite: Tu, stattene quivi in piè, o siedi qui sotto allo scannello de' miei piedi;
and if ye biholden in to hym that is clothid with clere clothing, and if ye seie to hym, Sitte thou here wel; but to the pore man ye seien, Stonde thou there, ethir sitte vndur the stool of my feet; whether ye demen not anentis you silf,
4 non avete voi fatta differenza in voi stessi? e non siete voi divenuti de' giudici con malvagi pensieri?
and ben maad domesmen of wickid thouytis?
5 Ascoltate, fratelli miei diletti: non ha Iddio eletti i poveri del mondo, [per esser] ricchi in fede, ed eredi dell'eredità ch'egli ha promessa a coloro che l'amano?
Heere ye, my moost dereworthe britheren, whethir God chees not pore men in this world, riche in feith, and eiris of the kyngdom, that God bihiyte to men that louen him?
6 Ma voi avete disonorato il povero. I ricchi non son eglino quelli che vi tiranneggiano? non [son eglino quelli] che vi traggono alle corti?
But ye han dispisid the pore man. Whether riche men oppressen not you bi power, and thei drawen you to domes?
7 Non son eglino quelli che bestemmiano il buon nome, del quale voi siete nominati?
Whether thei blasfemen not the good name, that is clepid to help on you?
8 Se invero voi adempiete la legge reale, secondo la scrittura: Ama il tuo prossimo, come te stesso, fate bene.
Netheles if ye performen the kingis lawe, bi scripturis, Thou schalt loue thi neiybour as thi silf, ye don wel.
9 Ma, se avete riguardo alla qualità delle persone, voi commettete peccato, essendo dalla legge convinti, come trasgressori.
But if ye taken persones, ye worchen synne, and ben repreued of the lawe, as trespasseris.
10 Perciocchè, chiunque avrà osservata tutta la legge, ed avrà fallito in un sol [capo], è colpevole di tutti.
And who euere kepith al the lawe, but offendith in oon, he is maad gilti of alle.
11 Poichè colui che ha detto: Non commettere adulterio; ha ancor detto: Non uccidere; che se tu non commetti adulterio, ma uccidi, tu sei divenuto trasgressor della legge.
For he that seide, Thou schalt do no letcherie, seide also, Thou schalt not sle; that if thou doist not letcherie, but thou sleest, thou art maad trespassour of the lawe.
12 Così parlate, e così operate, come avendo da esser giudicati per la legge della libertà.
Thus speke ye, and thus do ye, as bigynnynge to be demyd bi the lawe of fredom.
13 Perciocchè il giudicio senza misericordia [sarà] contro a colui che non avrà usata misericordia; e misericordia si gloria contro a giudicio.
For whi dom with out merci is to hym, that doith no mercy; but merci aboue reisith dom.
14 CHE utilità [vi è], fratelli miei, se alcuno dice d'aver fede, e non ha opere? può la fede salvarlo?
Mi britheren, what schal it profite, if ony man seie that he hath feith, but he hath not the werkis? whether feith schal mowe saue hym?
15 Che se un fratello, o sorella, son nudi, e bisognosi del nudrimento cotidiano;
And if a brother ethir sister be nakid, and han nede of ech daies lyuelode,
16 ed alcun di voi dice loro: Andatevene in pace, scaldatevi, e satollatevi; e voi non date loro i bisogni del corpo; qual pro [fate loro]?
and if ony of you seie to hem, Go ye in pees, be ye maad hoot, and be ye fillid; but if ye yyuen not to hem tho thingis that ben necessarie to bodi, what schal it profite?
17 Così ancora la fede a parte, se non ha le opere, è per sè stessa morta.
So also feith, if it hath not werkis, is deed in it silf.
18 Anzi alcuno dirà; Tu hai la fede, ed io ho le opere; mostrami la tua fede senza le tue opere, ed io ti mostrerò la fede mia per le mie opere.
But summan schal seie, Thou hast feith, and Y haue werkis; schewe thou to me thi feith with out werkis, and Y schal schewe to thee my feith of werkis.
19 Tu credi che Iddio è un solo; ben fai; i demoni [lo] credono anch'essi, e tremano.
Thou bileuest, that o God is; thou doist wel; and deuelis bileuen, and tremblen.
20 Ora, o uomo vano, vuoi tu conoscere che la fede senza le opere è morta?
But wolt thou wite, thou veyn man, that feith with out werkis is idul?
21 Non fu Abrahamo, nostro padre, giustificato per le opere, avendo offerto il suo figliuolo Isacco sopra l'altare?
Whether Abraham, oure fadir, was not iustified of werkis, offringe Ysaac, his sone, on the auter?
22 Tu vedi che la fede operava insieme con le opere d'esso, e che per le opere la fede fu compiuta.
Therfor thou seest, that feith wrouyte with hise werkis, and his feith was fillid of werkis.
23 E fu adempiuta la scrittura, che dice: Ed Abrahamo credette a Dio, e [ciò] gli fu imputato a giustizia; ed egli fu chiamato: Amico di Dio.
And the scripture was fillid, seiynge, Abraham bileuede to God, and it was arettid to hym to riytwisnesse, and he was clepid the freend of God.
24 Voi vedete adunque che l'uomo è giustificato per le opere, e non per la fede solamente.
Ye seen that a man is iustified of werkis, and not of feith oneli.
25 Simigliantemente ancora non fu Raab, la meretrice, giustificata per le opere, avendo accolti i messi, e mandati[li] via per un altro cammino?
In lijk maner, and whether also Raab, the hoore, was not iustified of werkis, and resseyuede the messangeris, and sente hem out bi anothir weie?
26 Poichè, siccome il corpo senza spirito è morto, così ancora la fede senza le opere è morta.
For as the bodi with out spirit is deed, so also feith with out werkis is deed.
