Isaia 44
1 ORA dunque ascolta, o Giacobbe, mio servitore; e [tu], Israele, [che] io ho eletto.
Now, then—hear, O Jacob, my Servant, —and Israel whom I have chosen:
2 Così ha detto il Signore, tuo Fattore, e tuo Formatore fin dal ventre, [il qual] ti aiuta: Non temere, o Giacobbe, mio servitore; e [tu], Iesurun, [che] io ho eletto.
Thus, saith Yahweh—Who made thee and formed thee from birth, Who helpeth thee: Do not fear O my Servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen;
3 Perciocchè io spanderò dell'acque sopra l'assetato, e dei rivi sopra la [terra] asciutta; io spanderò il mio Spirito sopra la tua progenie, e la mia benedizione sopra quelli che usciranno di te.
For I will pour, Water upon the thirsty soil, and Floods upon the dry ground, —I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring;
4 Ed essi germoglieranno fra l'erba, come salci presso a' rivi delle acque.
So will they spring up among the grass, As willows by the water-courses:
5 L'uno dirà: Io [son] del Signore; e l'altro si nominerà del nome di Giacobbe; e l'altro si sottoscriverà di sua mano del Signore, e si soprannominerà del nome d'Israele.
This one, will say Yahweh’s, am I, and That one, will call himself by the name of Jacob, and Yonder one will write on his hand—Yahweh’s, And after the name of Israel, will one entitle himself.
6 Così ha detto il Signore, il Re d'Israele, e suo Redentore, il Signor degli eserciti: Io [sono] il primiero, ed io [son] l'ultimo; e non [vi è] Dio alcuno fuor che me.
Thus saith Yahweh—King of Israel, Even his Redeemer, Yahweh of hosts, —I, am, First, and, I, Last, And besides me, there is no God.
7 E chi [è] come me, che abbia chiamato, e dichiarato, e ordinato [quello], da che io stabilii il popolo antico? annunzino loro [que' dii] le cose future, e quelle che avverranno.
Who then, like me, can call, and declare it, and order it, for me, Seeing that I appointed an age-abiding people, —Or things yet to be, and that shall come to pass, Let them declare on their part.
8 Non vi spaventate, e non vi smarrite; non ti ho io fatte intendere, e dichiarate [queste cose] ab antico? e voi me [ne siete] testimoni; evvi alcun Dio, fuor che me? non [vi è] alcun'[altra] Rocca, io non [ne] conosco alcuna.
Do not ye dread, nor yet be alarmed, Have I not from olden time, told thee and declared? So that, ye, are my witnesses, —Whether there is a GOD besides me? Or is no Rock—I knew of none!
9 Gli artefici delle sculture [son] tutti quanti vanità; e i lor cari [idoli] non giovano nulla; ed essi [son] testimoni a sè stessi che quelli non vedono, e non conoscono; acciocchè sieno confusi.
The fashioners of an image—all of them, are emptiness, And, the things they delight in, cannot profit, —And, their, witnesses, they, neither see nor know, That they may be ashamed.
10 Chi ha formato un dio? e chi ha fusa una scultura? Ella non gioverà nulla.
Who hath fashioned a GOD, Oran image, hath molten? It cannot profit!
11 Ecco, tutti i compagni di un tale uomo saranno confusi, e insieme gli artefici, [che] son fra gli uomini; aduninsi pure, [e] presentinsi tutti quanti; sì, saranno tutti insieme spaventati, e confusi.
Lo! all his partners, turn pale, Even, the artificers themselves, are of the sons of earth, —Let them gather themselves together—all of them. Let them take their stand, Let them dread, and turn pale, together!
12 Il ferraiuolo [adopera] la lima, e lo scarpello, e lavora col carbone, e forma [la scultura] co' martelli; ed anche, [mentre] la lavora con la forza del suo braccio, ha fame, e le forze [gli] mancano; egli non beve acqua, e si stanca.
As for the smith, [with his] cutting-tool, —When he hath wrought in the live coals, And, with hammers, hath fashioned it, —And hath wrought it with his strong arm, Anon he is hungry, and hath no strength, He hath drunk no water and so hath become faint!
13 Il legnaiuolo stende il regolo, disegna [la scultura] con la sinopia, la lavora con asce, e la disegna con la sesta, e la fa alla somiglianza umana, secondo la gloria dell'uomo; acciocchè dimori in casa.
As for the carpenter, —He hath stretched out a line hath drawn it with a pencil, Hath made it with carving tools, With compasses, hath rounded it, —And so hath made it after the figure of a great man, After the beauty of a son of earth, that it may remain in a house!
14 Tagliando de' cedri, egli prende un elce, ed una quercia, e li lascia fortificar fra gli alberi di una selva; egli pianta un frassino salvatico, [il qual] la pioggia fa crescere.
When one was cutting him down cedars, Then took he a holm-tree and an oak, And secured them for himself, among the trees of the forest, —He planted a fir-tree and the pouring rain made it grow;
15 E [quegli alberi] servono all'uomo per bruciare; ed egli ne prende una parte, e se ne scalda; ed anche ne accende [del fuoco], e [ne] cuoce del pane; ed anche [ne] fa un dio, e l'adora; ne fa una scultura, e le s'inchina.
So it serveth for a man to burn, And he hath taken of the branches and warmed himself, Also he kindleth a fire, and baketh bread, —Also he maketh a GOD, and hath bowed himself down, Hath made of it a carved image, and adored it:
16 Egli ne avrà bruciata la metà al fuoco, col mezzo dell'altra metà egli avrà mangiata della carne, [ed] avrà arrostito l'arrosto, e si sarà saziato; ed anche, dopo essersi scaldato, dirà: Eia! io mi sono scaldato; io ho veduto il fuoco.
The half thereof, hath he burned in the fire, Over half thereof, he eateth flesh, He roasteth roast, that he may be satisfied, —Also he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen a blaze;
17 Poi impiega il rimanente a [fare] un dio, in una sua scultura, alla quale egli s'inchina, e [l]'adora, e gli fa orazione, e dice: Liberami; perciocchè tu [sei] il mio dio.
And the residue thereof, Into a GOD, he maketh, Into his carved image, —Adoreth it, and boweth down and prayeth unto it, And saith Deliver me, for, my GOD, thou art!
18 Essi non hanno conoscimento, nè intendimento alcuno; perciocchè i loro occhi sono incrostati, per non vedere; [e i] lor cuori, per non intendere.
They have not taken note, neither can they perceive, —He hath besmeared—past seeing—their eyes, Past understanding, their hearts;
19 E non si recano [la cosa] al cuore, e non [hanno] conoscimento, nè intendimento alcuno, per dire: Io ho arsa col fuoco la metà di questo, ed anche ho cotto del pane su le brace di esso: io [ne] ho arrostita della carne, e [l]'ho mangiata; farei io del rimanente di esso una cosa abbominevole? m'inchinerei io davanti ad un tronco di legno?
And no one reflecteth—There is neither knowledge nor discernment—to say, Half thereof, have I burned up in the fire Moreover also I have baked, on the coals thereof, bread, I roasted flesh, and have been eating, —And of the remainder thereof, an abomination, shall I make? And, to a log of wood, shall I pay adoration?
20 Essi si pascono di cenere, il cuor sedotto li travia; e non rinfrancano [mai] l'anima loro, e non dicono: [Questo che io ho] nella destra, non [è egli] una cosa falsa?
He is feeding on ashes, A deluded heart, hath turned him aside, —And he cannot deliver his own soul nor say, Is there not a falsehood in my right hand?
21 RICORDATI di queste cose, o Giacobbe, e Israele; perciocchè tu [sei] mio servitore, io ti ho formato, tu [sei] mio servitore; Israele, non dimenticarmi.
Remember these things, O Jacob, And, Israel, —for, my Servant, thou art, —I have fashioned thee, a Servant of mine, thou art.
22 Io ho cancellati i tuoi misfatti, a guisa di una nuvola; ed i tuoi peccati, a guisa di una nube; convertiti a me, perciocchè io ti ho riscattato.
O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me, I have wiped out, As with a thick cloud, thy transgressions, And as with a broad cloud, thy sins, —Return unto me, for I have redeemed thee.
23 Cantate, o cieli; perciocchè il Signore ha operato; giubilate, luoghi bassi della terra; risonate grida di allegrezza, monti, selve, e tutti gli alberi [che sono] in esse; perciocchè il Signore ha riscattato Giacobbe, e si è reso glorioso in Israele.
Shout in triumph ye heavens for Yahweh, hath effectually wrought. Shout, O ye underparts of the earth, Ring out, Ye mountains, into cries of triumph, Thou forest, and every tree therein, —For, Yahweh, hath redeemed, Jacob, And in Israel, will he get himself glory.
24 Così ha detto il Signore, tuo Redentore, e tuo Formatore fin dal ventre: Io [sono] il Signore, che ho fatta ogni cosa, che ho distesi i cieli solo, [ed] ho appianata la terra, senza che alcuno [sia stato] meco;
Thus, saith Yahweh Who hath redeemed thee, Who hath fashioned thee from birth, —I—Yahweh, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens, alone, Spreading forth the earth, of myself;
25 che annullo i segni de' bugiardi, e fo impazzar gl'indovini; che fo andare a ritroso i savi, e rendo stolto il loro conoscimento;
Frustrating the signs of praters, And, diviners, he confoundeth, —Turning wise men backwards, And their knowledge, he maketh folly;
26 che confermo la parola del mio servitore, e adempio il consiglio de' miei Angeli; che dico a Gerusalemme: Tu sarai abitata; ed alle città di Giuda: Voi sarete riedificate; ed io ridirizzerò le sue ruine;
Establishing the word of his Servant, And the counsel of his Messengers, he maketh good, —Who saith of Jerusalem—She shall be inhabited! And of the cities of Judah—They shall be built! And the ruins thereof, will I set up!
27 che dico al profondo [mare: ] Seccati; e che asciugherò i suoi fiumi;
Who saith to the deep—Be dry and Thy rivers, will I drain!
28 che dico a Ciro: Mio pastore; e [fo] ch'egli adempierà tutta la mia volontà, per dire a Gerusalemme: Tu sarai riedificata; ed al tempio: Tu sarai [di nuovo] fondato.
Who saith of Cyrus—My Shepherd! and All my pleasure, shall he make good Even saying of Jerusalem—She shall be built! And of the temple—Be her foundation laid!
