Osea 10
1 Israele [è stato] una vigna deserta; [pur nondimeno] egli ha ancora portato del frutto; ma, al pari che il suo frutto ha abbondato, egli ha fatti molti altari; al pari che la sua terra ha ben [risposto], egli ha adorne le statue.
Israel is a luxuriant vine, That bringeth forth fruit; But according to the abundance of his fruit hath he abounded in altars; According to the goodness of his land hath he made goodly images.
2 [Iddio] ha diviso il lor cuore; ora saranno desolati; egli abbatterà i loro altari, guasterà le loro statue.
Their heart is divided; now shall they suffer for it; He will break down their altars, And destroy their images.
3 Perciocchè ora diranno: Noi non abbiamo alcun re, perchè non abbiamo temuto il Signore; ed anche: Che ci farebbe un re?
For soon shall they say, We have no king, Because we fear not Jehovah; What can a king do for us?
4 Han proferite delle parole, giurando falsamente, facendo patto; perciò, il giudicio germoglierà come tosco sopra i solchi dei campi.
They utter empty words, Swearing falsely, making covenants, And now judgment springeth up, as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
5 Gli abitanti di Samaria saranno spaventati per le vitelle di Bet-aven; perciocchè il popolo del [vitello] farà cordoglio di esso; e i suoi Camari, che solevano festeggiar d'esso, [faranno cordoglio] della sua gloria; perciocchè si sarà dipartita da lui.
For the calf of Bethaven shall the inhabitants of Samaria be in fear; Yea, its people shall grieve for it, And its priests shall tremble for it, Because its glory has departed from it.
6 Ed egli stesso sarà portato in Assiria, per presente al re protettore; Efraim riceverà vergogna, e Israele sarà confuso del suo consiglio.
It shall be carried to Assyria, As a present to the hostile king. Ephraim shall be covered with confusion, And Israel shall be ashamed of his doings,
7 Il re di Samaria perirà, come la schiuma in su l'acqua.
Samaria shall be brought to destruction; Her king shall be as a twig upon the waters.
8 E gli alti luoghi di Aven, [che sono] il peccato d'Israele, saran distrutti; spine, e triboli cresceranno sopra i loro altari, ed essi diranno a' monti: Copriteci; ed a' colli: Cadeteci addosso.
The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed; The thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars. And they shall say to the mountains, Cover us! And to the hills, Fall on us!
9 O Israele, tu hai peccato da' giorni di Ghibea; là si presentarono [in battaglia], la quale non li colse in Ghibea, coi figliuoli d'iniquità.
More than in the days of Gibeah hast thou sinned, O Israel! There they stood; The battle in Gibeah against the sons of iniquity did not overtake them.
10 Io li castigherò secondo il mio desiderio; e i popoli saran radunati contro a loro, quando saranno legati a' lor due peccati.
Now will I chastise them according to my pleasure, And the nations shall be gathered together against them, When I shall bind them for their two iniquities.
11 Or Efraim [è] una giovenca ammaestrata, che ama di trebbiare; ma io passerò sopra la bellezza del suo collo; io farò tirar la carretta ad Efraim, Giuda arerà, Giacobbe erpicherà.
Ephraim is a trained heifer, that loveth to tread out the corn; But I will lay the yoke upon her fair neck; I will cause Ephraim to draw, Judah shall plough, Jacob shall harrow.
12 Fatevi [sementa] di giustizia, e mieterete ricolta di benignità; aratevi il campo novale; [egli è] pur tempo di cercare il Signore, finchè egli venga, e vi faccia piover giustizia.
Sow for yourselves to righteousness, and ye shall reap according to your piety; Break up your fallow ground; For it is a time to seek Jehovah, Till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
13 Voi avete arata empietà, [ed] avete mietuta iniquità; voi avete mangiato il frutto di menzogna; conciossiachè tu ti sii confidato nelle tue vie, nella moltitudine de' tuoi [uomini] prodi.
Ye plough wickedness, ye shall reap injustice; Ye shall eat the fruit of falsehood. Because thou trustest in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men,
14 Perciò, si leverà uno stormo contro a' tuoi popoli, e tutte le tue fortezze saranno distrutte; siccome Salman ha distrutto Bet-arbel, nel giorno della battaglia; la madre sarà schiacciata sopra i figliuoli.
There shall arise a tumult among thy people, And all thy fortresses shall be destroyed, As Shalman destroyed Betharbel in the day of battle, When the mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
15 Così vi farà Betel, per cagion della malvagità della vostra malizia; il re d'Israele perirà del tutto all'alba.
Such things shall Bethel bring upon you Because of your great wickedness. In the morning shall the king of Israel be destroyed.
