2 Timoteo 2
1 Tu adunque, figliuol mio, fortificati nella grazia che [è] in Cristo Gesù.
Do you, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus;
2 E le cose che tu hai udite da me, in presenza di molti testimoni, commettile ad uomini fedeli, i quali sieno sufficienti ad ammaestrare ancora gli altri.
and the things which you have heard from me through many witnesses, these do you commit to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Tu adunque soffri afflizioni, come buon guerriero di Gesù Cristo.
Do you, therefore, suffer evil, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 Niuno che va alla guerra s'impaccia nelle faccende della vita, acciocchè piaccia a colui che l'ha soldato.
Every one that serves as a soldier keeps himself free from the business of this life, that he may please him that has chosen him to be a soldier.
5 Ed anche, se alcuno combatte, non è coronato, se non ha legittimamente combattuto.
And if any one also contend in the public games, he is not crowned, unless he contend according to the laws.
6 Egli è convenevole che il lavoratore che fatica goda il primo i frutti.
It is necessary that, the farmer should labor, before he partakes of the fruits.
7 Considera le cose che io dico; perciocchè [io prego] il Signore [che] ti dia intendimento in ogni cosa.
Consider what I say, for I pray that the Lord may give you understanding in all things.
8 Ricordati che Gesù Cristo è risuscitato da' morti, [il quale è] della progenie di Davide, secondo il mio evangelo.
Remember that Jesus Christ, of the posterity of David, was raised from the dead, according to my gospel;
9 Nel quale io soffro afflizione fino [ad esser prigione] ne' legami, a guisa di malfattore; ma la parola di Dio non è prigione.
in which I suffer evil, as an evil-doer, even to bonds: but the word of God is not bound.
10 Perciò io soffro ogni cosa per gli eletti, acciocchè essi ancora ottengano la salute, che [è] in Cristo Gesù, con gloria eterna. (aiōnios g166)
For this reason I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. (aiōnios g166)
11 Certa [è] questa parola; che se moriamo con [lui], con [lui] altresì viveremo.
Assuredly true is the saying: If indeed we have died with him, we shall also live with him;
12 Se perseveriamo, con [lui] altresì regneremo; se [lo] rinneghiamo, egli altresì ci rinnegherà.
if we are patient, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us;
13 Se siamo infedeli, egli pur rimane fedele; egli non può rinnegar sè stesso.
if we are unfaithful, he remains faithful: he can not deny himself.
14 RAMMEMORA queste cose, protestando, nel cospetto di Dio, che non si contenda di parole, [il che] a nulla [è] utile, [anzi è] per sovvertir gli uditori.
Put them in mind of these things, charging them before the Lord that they dispute not about words to no profit, which disputes end in the overthrow of the hearers.
15 Studiati di presentar te stesso approvato a Dio, operaio che non abbia ad esser confuso, che tagli dirittamente la parola della verità.
Strive to present yourself to God as approved, a workman that has no cause to be ashamed, rightly setting forth the word of truth.
16 Ma schiva le profane vanità di voci; perciocchè procederanno innanzi a maggiore empietà.
But shun profane and vain babblings; for they will make further advance to ungodliness,
17 E la parola di tali andrà rodendo, a guisa di gangrena; dei quali è Imeneo, e Fileto;
and their word will eat as a gangrene: of whom are Hymenæus and Philetus,
18 i quali si sono sviati dalla verità; dicendo che la risurrezione è già avvenuta; e sovvertono la fede d'alcuni.
who, as it respects the truth, have erred, saying that the resurrection has already taken place; and they overthrow the faith of some.
19 Ma pure il fondamento di Dio sta fermo, avendo questo suggello: Il Signore conosce que' che son suoi, e: Ritraggasi dall'iniquità chiunque nomina il nome di Cristo.
But the foundation of God stands firm, having this inscription: The Lord knows those who are his; and, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
20 Or in una gran casa non vi sono sol vasi d'oro e d'argento, ma ancora di legno, e di terra; e gli uni [sono] ad onore, gli altri a disonore.
In a great house, however, there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth, and some for honor, and some for dishonor.
21 Se dunque alcuno si purifica da queste cose, sarà un vaso ad onore, santificato ed acconcio al servigio del Signore, preparato ad ogni buona opera.
If, therefore, any one will cleanse himself from these strifes about words, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, highly useful to the master, prepared for every good work.
22 Or fuggi gli appetiti giovanili, e procaccia giustizia, fede, carità, pace con quelli che di cuor puro invocano il Signore.
Shun youthful desires, and follow righteousness, faithfulness, love, peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 E schiva le quistioni stolte e scempie, sapendo che generano contese.
But avoid foolish and unprofitable questions, because you know that they produce contentions:
24 Or non bisogna che il servitor del Signore contenda; ma che sia benigno inverso tutti, atto e pronto ad insegnare, che comporti i mali;
and the servant of the Lord must not be contentious, but gentle toward all men, able to teach, patient under evils,
25 che ammaestri con mansuetudine quelli che son disposti in contrario, [per provar] se talora Iddio desse loro di ravvedersi, per conoscer la verità;
in meekness instructing those who oppose themselves, if, possibly, God may give them repentance in order to the acknowledgment of the truth,
26 in maniera che, tornati a sana mente, uscissero dal laccio del diavolo, dal quale erano stati presi, per [far] la sua volontà.
and that they may awake to sobriety out of the snare of the devil, after having been taken captive by him according to his will.
