2 Cronache 13

1 L'ANNO diciottesimo del re Geroboamo, Abia cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda.

In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam — Abijah reigneth over Judah;

2 Egli regnò tre anni in Gerusalemme. E il nome di sua madre [era] Micaia, figliuola di Uriel, da Ghibea. Or vi fu guerra fra Abia e Geroboamo.

three years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, (and the name of his mother [is] Michaiah daughter of Uriel, from Gibeah, ) and war hath been between Abijah and Jeroboam.

3 Ed Abia venne a battaglia con un esercito di quattrocentomila combattenti, tutti uomini scelti. E Geroboamo ordinò la battaglia contro a lui con ottocentomila combattenti, tutti uomini scelti.

And Abijah directeth the war with a force of mighty men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men, and Jeroboam hath set in array with him battle, with eight hundred thousand chosen men, mighty of valour.

4 Ed Abia si levò in piè disopra al monte di Semaraim, che [è] nelle montagne di Efraim, e disse: O Geroboamo, e tutto Israle, ascoltatemi:

And Abijah riseth up on the hill of Zemaraim that [is] in the hill-country of Ephraim, and saith, 'Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel!

5 Non dovete voi sapere che il Signore Iddio d'Israele ha dato a Davide il regno sopra Israele, in perpetuo? a lui, [dico], ed a' suoi figliuoli, [per] patto inviolabile?

Is it not for you to know that Jehovah, God of Israel, hath given the kingdom to David over Israel to the age, to him and to his sons — a covenant of salt?

6 Ma Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat, servo di Salomone, figliuolo di Davide, si è levato, e si è ribellato contro al suo signore.

and rise up doth Jeroboam, son of Nebat, servant of Solomon son of David, and rebelleth against his lord!

7 E certi uomini da nulla [e] scellerati, si sono adunati appresso di lui, e si sono fortificati contro a Roboamo, figliuolo di Salomone, il quale essendo giovane, e di cuor molle, non ha contrastato loro valorosamente.

'And there are gathered unto him vain men, sons of worthlessness, and they strengthen themselves against Rehoboam son of Solomon, and Rehoboam was a youth, and tender of heart, and hath not strengthened himself against them.

8 Ed ora voi pensate di resistere ostinatamente al regno del Signore, [che è] fra le mani de' figliuoli di Davide; perciocchè voi siete una gran moltitudine, ed [avete] con voi i vitelli d'oro che Geroboamo vi ha fatti per dii.

'And now, ye are saying to strengthen yourselves before the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David, and ye [are] a numerous multitude, and with you calves of gold that Jeroboam hath made to you for gods.

9 Non avete voi scacciati i sacerdoti del Signore, i figliuoli d'Aaronne, ed i Leviti? e non vi avete voi fatti de' sacerdoti nella maniera de' popoli de' paesi? chiunque si è presentato per consacrarsi con un giovenco, e con sette montoni? e così è divenuto sacerdote di quelli che non [son] dii.

'Have ye not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make to you priests like the peoples of the lands? every one who hath come to fill his hand with a bullock, a son of the herd, and seven rams, even he hath been a priest to No-gods!

10 Ma quant'è a noi, il Signore [è] l'Iddio nostro, e noi non l'abbiamo abbandonato; ed i sacerdoti, che ministrano al Signore, [sono] figliuoli d'Aaronne; ed i Leviti sono impiegati a questa opera;

'As for us, Jehovah [is] our God, and we have not forsaken Him, and priests are ministering to Jehovah, sons of Aaron and the Levites, in the work,

11 ed ogni mattina, ed ogni sera ardono gli olocausti al Signore, co' profumi degli aromati; ed [ordinano] i pani che si devono ordinare sopra la tavola pura; ed ogni sera accendono il candelliere d'oro con le sue lampane; perciocchè noi osserviamo ciò che il Signore ha ordinato; ma voi avete abbandonato il Signore.

and are making perfume to Jehovah, burnt-offerings morning by morning, and evening by evening, and perfume of spices, and the arrangement of bread [is] on the pure table, and the candlestick of gold, and its lamps, to burn evening by evening, for we are keeping the charge of Jehovah our God, and ye — ye have forsaken Him.

12 Ed ecco, Iddio [è] con noi in capo, insieme co' suoi sacerdoti, e con le trombe di suono squillante, per sonar con esse contro a voi. Figliuoli d'Israele, non combattete contro al Signore Iddio de' padri vostri; perciocchè voi non prosperete.

'And lo, with us — at [our] head — [is] God, and His priests and trumpets of shouting to shout against you; O sons of Israel, do not fight with Jehovah, God of your fathers, for ye do not prosper.'

13 In quel mezzo Geroboamo fece volgere un agguato, perchè venisse sopra [que' di Giuda] di dietro; talchè Giuda avea [gl'Israeliti] in fronte, e l'agguato alle spalle.

And Jeroboam hath brought round the ambush to come in from behind them, and they are before Judah, and the ambush [is] behind them.

14 E [que' di] Giuda si rivoltarono, e videro ch'erano assaliti da fronte e dalle spalle; laonde gridarono al Signore, e i sacerdoti sonarono con le trombe.

And Judah turneth, and lo, against them [is] the battle, before and behind, and they cry to Jehovah, and the priests are blowing with trumpets,

15 La gente di Giuda ancora gittò grida; e, come gittavano quelle grida, Iddio sconfisse Geroboamo e tutto Israele davanti ad Abia ed a Giuda.

and the men of Judah shout — and it cometh to pass, at the shouting of the men of Judah, that God hath smitten Jeroboam, and all Israel, before Abijah and Judah.

16 Ed i figliuoli d'Israele fuggirono d'innanzi a Giuda; e Iddio li diede loro nelle mani.

And the sons of Israel flee from the face of Judah, and God giveth them into their hand,

17 Ed Abia ed il suo popolo li percossero d'una grande sconfitta; e caddero uccisi cinquecentomila uomini scelti d'Israele.

and Abijah and his people smite among them a great smiting, and there fall wounded of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

18 Così i figliuoli d'Israele furono in quel tempo abbassati, ed i figliuoli di Giuda si rinforzarono; perciocchè si erano appoggiati sopra il Signore Iddio de' padri loro.

And the sons of Israel are humbled at that time, and the sons of Judah are strong, for they have leant on Jehovah, God of their fathers.

19 Ed Abia perseguitò Geroboamo, e gli prese [alcune] città: Betel, e le terre del suo territorio; Iesana, e le terre del suo territorio; ed Efraim, e le terre del suo territorio.

And Abijah pursueth after Jeroboam, and captureth from him cities, Beth-El and its small towns, and Jeshanah and its small towns, and Ephraim and its small towns.

20 E Geroboamo non ebbe più potere alcuno al tempo di Abia; e il Signore lo percosse, ed egli morì.

And Jeroboam hath not retained power any more in the days of Abijah, and Jehovah smiteth him, and he dieth.

21 Ed Abia si fortificò, e prese quattordici mogli, e generò ventidue figliuoli, e sedici figliuole.

And Abijah strengtheneth himself, and taketh to him fourteen wives, and begetteth twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters,

22 Ora, quant'è al rimanente de' fatti di Abia, e de' suoi portamenti, e de' suoi fatti; [queste cose sono] scritte nelle memorie del profeta Iddio.

and the rest of the matters of Abijah, and his ways, and his words, are written in the 'Inquiry' of the prophet Iddo.
