Salmi 58

1 Al maestro del coro. Su «Non distruggere». Di Davide. Miktam. Rendete veramente giustizia o potenti, giudicate con rettitudine gli uomini?

To the chief Musician, Al-taschith, Michtam of David. Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?

2 Voi tramate iniquità con il cuore, sulla terra le vostre mani preparano violenze.

Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.

3 Sono traviati gli empi fin dal seno materno, si pervertono fin dal grembo gli operatori di menzogna.

The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

4 Sono velenosi come il serpente, come vipera sorda che si tura le orecchie

Their poison [is] like the poison of a serpent: [they are] like the deaf adder [that] stoppeth her ear;

5 per non udire la voce dell'incantatore, del mago che incanta abilmente.

Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.

6 Spezzagli, o Dio, i denti nella bocca, rompi, o Signore, le mascelle dei leoni.

Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.

7 Si dissolvano come acqua che si disperde, come erba calpestata inaridiscano.

Let them melt away as waters [which] run continually: [when] he bendeth [his bow to shoot] his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.

8 Passino come lumaca che si discioglie, come aborto di donna che non vede il sole.

As a snail [which] melteth, let [every one of them] pass away: [like] the untimely birth of a woman, [that] they may not see the sun.

9 Prima che le vostre caldaie sentano i pruni, vivi li travolga il turbine.

Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in [his] wrath.

10 Il giusto godrà nel vedere la vendetta, laverà i piedi nel sangue degli empi.

The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

11 Gli uomini diranno: «C'è un premio per il giusto, c'è Dio che fa giustizia sulla terra!».

So that a man shall say, Verily [there is] a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.
