Salmi 34

1 Di Davide, quando si finse pazzo in presenza di Abimelech e, da lui scacciato, se ne andò. Benedirò il Signore in ogni tempo, sulla mia bocca sempre la sua lode.

“By David, when he disguised his reason before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.” I will bless the Lord at all times: continually shall his praise be in my mouth.

2 Io mi glorio nel Signore, ascoltino gli umili e si rallegrino.

My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear it, and be rejoiced.

3 Celebrate con me il Signore, esaltiamo insieme il suo nome.

Oh magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4 Ho cercato il Signore e mi ha risposto e da ogni timore mi ha liberato.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and from all that I dreaded did he deliver me.

5 Guardate a lui e sarete raggianti, non saranno confusi i vostri volti.

They [who] looked unto him, were indeed enlightened, and their faces were not put to the blush.

6 Questo povero grida e il Signore lo ascolta, lo libera da tutte le sue angosce.

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and out of all his distresses did he save him.

7 L'angelo del Signore si accampa attorno a quelli che lo temono e li salva.

The angel of the Lord encampeth round about those who fear him, and delivereth them.

8 Gustate e vedete quanto è buono il Signore; beato l'uomo che in lui si rifugia.

Experience and see that the Lord is good: happy is the man that trusteth in him.

9 Temete il Signore, suoi santi, nulla manca a coloro che lo temono.

Oh fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to those who fear him.

10 I ricchi impoveriscono e hanno fame, ma chi cerca il Signore non manca di nulla.

The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not want any good.

11 Venite, figli, ascoltatemi; v'insegnerò il timore del Signore.

Come, ye children, hearken unto me: the fear of the Lord will I teach you.

12 C'è qualcuno che desidera la vita e brama lunghi giorni per gustare il bene?

Who is the man that desireth life, loveth [many] days, that he may see happiness?

13 Preserva la lingua dal male, le labbra da parole bugiarde.

Guard thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking deceit.

14 Stà lontano dal male e fà il bene, cerca la pace e perseguila.

Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

15 Gli occhi del Signore sui giusti, i suoi orecchi al loro grido di aiuto.

The eyes of the Lord are directed unto the righteous, and his ears unto their cry.

16 Il volto del Signore contro i malfattori, per cancellarne dalla terra il ricordo.

[But] the anger of the Lord is against those that do evil, to cut off from the earth their remembrance.

17 Gridano e il Signore li ascolta, li salva da tutte le loro angosce.

Those cry, and the Lord heareth, and from all their distresses he delivereth them.

18 Il Signore è vicino a chi ha il cuore ferito, egli salva gli spiriti affranti.

The Lord is nigh unto those that are broken-hearted: and he saveth those that are of a contrite spirit.

19 Molte sono le sventure del giusto, ma lo libera da tutte il Signore.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but out of them all the Lord ever delivereth him.

20 Preserva tutte le sue ossa, neppure uno sarà spezzato.

He watcheth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

21 La malizia uccide l'empio e chi odia il giusto sarà punito.

The evil will slay the wicked: and they who hate the righteous shall incur guiltiness.

22 Il Signore riscatta la vita dei suoi servi, chi in lui si rifugia non sarà condannato.

The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and all that trust in him shall not incur guiltiness.
