Salmi 129

1 Dalla giovinezza molto mi hanno perseguitato, - lo dica Israele - Canto delle ascensioni.

A Song of Ascents. Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up, let Israel now say;

2 dalla giovinezza molto mi hanno perseguitato, ma non hanno prevalso.

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up: yet they have not prevailed against me.

3 Sul mio dorso hanno arato gli aratori, hanno fatto lunghi solchi.

The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows.

4 Il Signore è giusto: ha spezzato il giogo degli empi.

The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

5 Siano confusi e volgano le spalle quanti odiano Sion.

Let them be ashamed and turned backward, all they that hate Zion.

6 Siano come l'erba dei tetti: prima che sia strappata, dissecca;

Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:

7 non se ne riempie la mano il mietitore, né il grembo chi raccoglie covoni.

Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand, nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.

8 I passanti non possono dire: «La benedizione del Signore sia su di voi, vi benediciamo nel nome del Signore».

Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD.
