Salmi 107
1 Celebrate il Signore perché è buono, perché eterna è la sua misericordia. Alleluia.
Alleluia. Confess to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy is with every generation.
2 Lo dicano i riscattati del Signore, che egli liberò dalla mano del nemico
Let those who have been redeemed by the Lord say so: those whom he redeemed from the hand of the enemy and gathered from the regions,
3 e radunò da tutti i paesi, dall'oriente e dall'occidente, dal settentrione e dal mezzogiorno.
from the rising of the sun and its setting, from the north and from the sea.
4 Vagavano nel deserto, nella steppa, non trovavano il cammino per una città dove abitare.
They wandered into solitude in a waterless place. They did not find the way of the city to be their dwelling place.
5 Erano affamati e assetati, veniva meno la loro vita.
They were hungry, and they were thirsty. Their soul fainted within them.
6 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.
And they cried out to the Lord in tribulation, and he rescued them in their necessity.
7 Li condusse sulla via retta, perché camminassero verso una città dove abitare.
And he led them in the right way, so that they might go forth to a city of habitation.
8 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini;
Let his mercies confess to the Lord, and let his miracles confess to the sons of men.
9 poiché saziò il desiderio dell'assetato, e l'affamato ricolmò di beni.
For he has satisfied the empty soul, and he has satisfied the hungry soul with good things:
10 Abitavano nelle tenebre e nell'ombra di morte, prigionieri della miseria e dei ceppi,
those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, shackled by extreme poverty and by iron.
11 perché si erano ribellati alla parola di Dio e avevano disprezzato il disegno dell'Altissimo.
For they exasperated the eloquence of God, and they irritated the deliberation of the Most High.
12 Egli piegò il loro cuore sotto le sventure; cadevano e nessuno li aiutava.
And their heart was brought low with hardships. They were weakened, and there was no one to help them.
13 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.
And they cried out to the Lord in their tribulation, and he freed them from their distress.
14 Li fece uscire dalle tenebre e dall'ombra di morte e spezzò le loro catene.
And he led them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and he broke apart their chains.
15 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia, per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini;
Let his mercies confess to the Lord, and let his miracles confess to the sons of men.
16 perché ha infranto le porte di bronzo e ha spezzato le barre di ferro.
For he has crushed the gates of brass and broken the iron bars.
17 Stolti per la loro iniqua condotta, soffrivano per i loro misfatti;
He has taken them up, from the way of their iniquity. For they were brought low, because of their injustices.
18 rifiutavano ogni nutrimento e gia toccavano le soglie della morte.
Their soul abhorred all food, and they drew near even to the gates of death.
19 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.
And they cried out to the Lord in their tribulation, and he delivered them in their necessity.
20 Mandò la sua parola e li fece guarire, li salvò dalla distruzione.
He sent his word, and he healed them, and he rescued them from their utter destruction.
21 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia e per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini.
Let his mercies confess to the Lord, and let his miracles confess to the sons of men.
22 Offrano a lui sacrifici di lode, narrino con giubilo le sue opere.
And let them offer sacrifice with the sacrifice of praise, and let them announce his works in exultation.
23 Coloro che solcavano il mare sulle navi e commerciavano sulle grandi acque,
Those who descend to the sea in ships, making their livelihood in the great waters:
24 videro le opere del Signore, i suoi prodigi nel mare profondo.
these have seen the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep.
25 Egli parlò e fece levare un vento burrascoso che sollevò i suoi flutti.
He spoke: and a windstorm stood up, and its waves were exalted.
26 Salivano fino al cielo, scendevano negli abissi; la loro anima languiva nell'affanno.
They ascend even to the heavens, and they descend even to the abyss. Their soul will waste away in distress.
27 Ondeggiavano e barcollavano come ubriachi, tutta la loro perizia era svanita.
They were troubled, and they moved like a drunkard, and all their wisdom was consumed.
28 Nell'angoscia gridarono al Signore ed egli li liberò dalle loro angustie.
And they cried out to the Lord in their tribulation, and he led them out of their distress.
29 Ridusse la tempesta alla calma, tacquero i flutti del mare.
And he replaced the storm with a breeze, and its waves were stilled.
30 Si rallegrarono nel vedere la bonaccia ed egli li condusse al porto sospirato.
And they were joyful that it was stilled, and he led them into the haven that they desired.
31 Ringrazino il Signore per la sua misericordia e per i suoi prodigi a favore degli uomini.
Let his mercies confess to the Lord, and let his miracles confess to the sons of men.
32 Lo esaltino nell'assemblea del popolo, lo lodino nel consesso degli anziani.
And let them exalt him in the Church of the people, and praise him in the chair of the elders.
33 Ridusse i fiumi a deserto, a luoghi aridi le fonti d'acqua
He has placed rivers in the desert and sources of water in dry places,
34 e la terra fertile a palude per la malizia dei suoi abitanti.
a fruit-bearing land in the midst of brine, before the malice of those who dwell in it.
35 Ma poi cambiò il deserto in lago, e la terra arida in sorgenti d'acqua.
He has placed a desert in the midst of pools of waters, and a land without water in the midst of sources of water.
36 Là fece dimorare gli affamati ed essi fondarono una città dove abitare.
And he has gathered the hungry together there, and they constructed a city of habitation.
37 Seminarono campi e piantarono vigne, e ne raccolsero frutti abbondanti.
And they sowed fields and planted vineyards, and they produced the fruit of nativity.
38 Li benedisse e si moltiplicarono, non lasciò diminuire il loro bestiame.
And he blessed them, and they were multiplied exceedingly. And he did not diminish their beasts of burden.
39 Ma poi, ridotti a pochi, furono abbattuti, perché oppressi dalle sventure e dal dolore.
And they became few, and they were afflicted by the tribulation of evils and of sorrow.
40 Colui che getta il disprezzo sui potenti, li fece vagare in un deserto senza strade.
Contempt was poured over their leaders, and he caused them to wander in an impassable place, and not on the way.
41 Ma risollevò il povero dalla miseria e rese le famiglie numerose come greggi.
And he helped the poor out of destitution, and he stationed families like sheep.
42 Vedono i giusti e ne gioiscono e ogni iniquo chiude la sua bocca.
The upright will see, and they will rejoice. And every iniquity will block its mouth.
43 Chi è saggio osservi queste cose e comprenderà la bontà del Signore.
Who is wise and will keep these things? And who will understand the mercies of the Lord?
