Numeri 25
1 Israele si stabilì a Sittim e il popolo cominciò a trescare con le figlie di Moab.
And Israel remained among the acacias, —and the people began to go away unchastely unto the daughters of Moab;
2 Esse invitarono il popolo ai sacrifici offerti ai loro dei; il popolo mangiò e si prostrò davanti ai loro dei.
who invited the people unto the sacrifices of their gods, —so the people did eat, and did bow themselves down unto their gods.
3 Israele aderì al culto di Baal-Peor e l'ira del Signore si accese contro Israele.
Thus Israel let himself be bound unto Baal-peor, and the anger of Yahweh kindled upon Israel.
4 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Prendi tutti i capi del popolo e fà appendere al palo i colpevoli, davanti al Signore, al sole, perché l'ira ardente del Signore si allontani da Israele».
And Yahweh said unto Moses—Take all the heads of the people, and crucify them unto Yahweh. in the face of the sun, —that the heat of the anger of Yahweh may turn away from Israel.
5 Mosè disse ai giudici d'Israele: «Ognuno di voi uccida dei suoi uomini coloro che hanno aderito al culto di Baal-Peor».
And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, —Slay ye each one his men, who have let themselves he bound unto Baal-peor.
6 Ed ecco uno degli Israeliti venne e condusse ai suoi fratelli una donna madianita, sotto gli occhi di Mosè e di tutta la comunità degli Israeliti, mentre essi stavano piangendo all'ingresso della tenda del convegno.
And lo! a man of the sons of Israel coming in, who brought near unto his brethren a Midianite woman, before the eyes of Moses, and before the eyes of all the assembly of the sons of Israel, when they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
7 Vedendo ciò, Pincas figlio di Eleazaro, figlio del sacerdote Aronne, si alzò in mezzo alla comunità, prese in mano una lancia,
And Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest saw it, so he rose up out of the midst of the assembly, and took a spear in his hand;
8 seguì quell'uomo di Israele nella tenda e li trafisse tutti e due, l'uomo di Israele e la donna, nel basso ventre. E il flagello cessò tra gli Israeliti.
and went in after the man of Israel into the pleasure-tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman, in her parts of shame, —so the plague was restrained from against the sons of Israel.
9 Di quel flagello morirono ventiquattromila persone.
Then was it found that they who had died by the plague were four and twenty thousand.
10 Il Signore disse a Mosè:
Then spake Yahweh unto Moses saying:
11 «Pincas, figlio di Eleazaro, figlio del sacerdote Aronne, ha allontanato la mia ira dagli Israeliti, perché egli è stato animato dal mio zelo fra di loro, e io nella mia gelosia non ho sterminato gli Israeliti.
Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, hath turned back my wrath from against the sons of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy, in their midst, so that I made not an end of the sons of Israel. in my jealousy.
12 Perciò digli che io stabilisco con lui un'alleanza di pace,
Wherefore say, —Behold me! giving unto him my covenant of peace;
13 che sarà per lui e per la sua stirpe dopo di lui un'alleanza di un sacerdozio perenne, perché egli ha avuto zelo per il suo Dio e ha fatto il rito espiatorio per gli Israeliti».
so shall it prove to be unto him and unto his seed after him, the covenant of our age-abiding priesthood, because he was jealous for his God, and did put a propitiatory-covering over the sons of Israel.
14 Ora l'uomo d'Israele, che è stato ucciso con la donna madianita, si chiamava Zimri, figlio di Salu, capo di un casato paterno dei Simeoniti.
Now, the name of the man of Israel that was smitten, who was smitten with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri son of Salu, —prince of an ancestral house of the Simeonites;
15 La donna che è stata uccisa, la Madianita, si chiamava Cozbi, figlia di Zur, capo della gente di un casato in Madian.
and, the name of the woman who was smitten, the Midianitess, was Cozbi, daughter of Zur, —the head of his kindred, of an ancestral house in Midian, was he.
16 Poi il Signore disse a Mosè:
And Yahweh spake unto Moses saying:
17 «Trattate i Madianiti da nemici e uccideteli,
Besiege the Midianites, —and ye shall smite them:
18 poiché essi vi hanno trattati da nemici con le astuzie mediante le quali vi hanno sedotti nella faccenda di Peor e nella faccenda di Cozbi, figlia di un principe di Madian, loro sorella, che è stata uccisa il giorno del flagello causato per la faccenda di Peor».
for, besiegers, were they unto you, with their wiles wherewith they beguiled you, over the matter of Peor, —and over he matter of Cozbi, daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who was smitten in the day of the plague, over the matter of Peor.
