Gioele 2
1 Suonate la tromba in Sion e date l'allarme sul mio santo monte! Tremino tutti gli abitanti della regione perchè viene il giorno del Signore, perchè è vicino,
Sound the trumpet in Sion, make a proclamation in my holy mountain, and let all the inhabitants of the land be confounded: for the day of the Lord is near;
2 giorno di tenebra e di caligine, giorno di nube e di oscurità. Come l'aurora, si spande sui monti un popolo grande e forte; come questo non ce n'è stato mai e non ce ne sarà dopo, per gli anni futuri di età in età.
for a day of darkness and gloominess is near, a day of cloud and mist: a numerous and strong people shall be spread upon the mountains as the morning; there has not been from the beginning one like it, and after it there shall not be again even to the years of many generations.
3 Davanti a lui un fuoco divora e dietro a lui brucia una fiamma. Come il giardino dell'Eden è la terra davanti a lui e dietro a lui è un deserto desolato, non resta alcun avanzo.
Before them is a consuming fire, and behind them is a flame kindled: the land before them is as a paradise of delight, and behind them a desolate plain: and there shall none of them escape.
4 Il loro aspetto è aspetto di cavalli, come destrieri essi corrono.
Their appearance is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they pursue.
5 Come fragore di carri che balzano sulla cima dei monti, come crepitìo di fiamma avvampante che brucia la stoppia, come un popolo forte schierato a battaglia.
As the sound of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, and as the sound of a flame of fire devouring stubble, and as a numerous and strong people setting themselves in array for battle.
6 Davanti a loro tremano i popoli, tutti i volti impallidiscono.
Before them shall the people be crushed: every face [shall be] as the blackness of a cauldron.
7 Corrono come prodi, come guerrieri che scalano le mura; ognuno procede per la strada, nessuno smarrisce la via.
As warriors shall they run, and as men of war shall they mount on the walls; and each shall move in his [right] path, and they shall not turn aside from their tracks:
8 L'uno non incalza l'altro, ognuno va per il suo sentiero. Si gettano fra i dardi, ma non rompono le file.
and not one shall stand aloof from his brother: they shall go on weighed down with their arms, and they fall upon their weapons, yet shall they in no wise be destroyed.
9 Piombano sulla città, si precipitano sulle mura, salgono sulle case, entrano dalle finestre come ladri.
They shall seize upon the city, and run upon the walls, and go up upon the houses, and enter in through the windows as thieves.
10 Davanti a loro la terra trema, il cielo si scuote, il sole, la luna si oscurano e le stelle cessano di brillare.
Before them the earth shall be confounded, and the sky shall be shaken: the sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their light.
11 Il Signore fa udire il tuono dinanzi alla sua schiera, perchè molto grande è il suo esercito, perchè potente è l'esecutore della sua parola, perchè grande è il giorno del Signore e molto terribile: chi potrà sostenerlo?
And the Lord shall utter his voice before his host: for his camp is very great: for the execution of his words is mighty: for the day of the Lord is great, very glorious, and who shall be able to [resist] it?
12 «Or dunque - parola del Signore - ritornate a me con tutto il cuore, con digiuni, con pianti e lamenti».
Now therefore, says the Lord your God, turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with lamentation:
13 Laceratevi il cuore e non le vesti, ritornate al Signore vostro Dio, perchè egli è misericordioso e benigno, tardo all'ira e ricco di benevolenza e si impietosisce riguardo alla sventura.
and rend your hearts, and not your garments, and turn to the Lord your God: for he is merciful and compassionate, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy, and repents of evils.
14 Chi sa che non cambi e si plachi e lasci dietro a sé una benedizione? Offerta e libazione per il Signore vostro Dio.
Who knows if he will return, and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meat-offering and a drink-offering to the Lord your God?
15 Suonate la tromba in Sion, proclamate un digiuno, convocate un'adunanza solenne.
Sound the trumpet in Sion, sanctify a fast, proclaim a [solemn] service:
16 Radunate il popolo, indite un'assemblea, chiamate i vecchi, riunite i fanciulli, i bambini lattanti; esca lo sposo dalla sua camera e la sposa dal suo talamo.
gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the infants at the breast: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
17 Tra il vestibolo e l'altare piangano i sacerdoti, ministri del Signore, e dicano: «Perdona, Signore, al tuo popolo e non esporre la tua eredità al vituperio e alla derisione delle genti». Perchè si dovrebbe dire fra i popoli: «Dov'è il loro Dio?».
Between the porch and the altar let the priests that minister to the Lord weep, and say, Spare your people, O Lord, and give not your heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them, lest they should say amongst the heathen, Where is their God?
18 Il Signore si mostri geloso per la sua terra e si muova a compassione del suo popolo.
But the Lord was jealous of his land, and spared his people.
19 Il Signore ha risposto al suo popolo: «Ecco, io vi mando il grano, il vino nuovo e l'olio e ne avrete a sazietà; non farò più di voi il ludibrio delle genti.
And the Lord answered and said to his people, Behold, I [will] send you corn, and wine, and oil, and you shall be satisfied with them: and I will no longer make you a reproach amongst the Gentiles.
20 Allontanerò da voi quello che viene dal settentrione e lo spingerò verso una terra arida e desolata: spingerò la sua avanguardia verso il mare d'oriente e la sua retroguardia verso il mare occidentale. Esalerà il suo lezzo, salirà il suo fetore, perchè ha fatto molto male.
And I will chase away from you the northern [adversary], and will drive him away into a dry land, and I will sink his face in the former sea, and his back parts in the latter sea, and his ill savour shall come up, and his stink come up, because he has wrought great things.
21 Non temere, terra, ma rallegrati e gioisci, poichè cose grandi ha fatto il Signore.
Be of good courage, O land; rejoice and be glad: for the Lord has done great things.
22 Non temete, animali della campagna, perchè i pascoli del deserto hanno germogliato, perchè gli alberi producono i frutti, la vite e il fico danno il loro vigore.
Be of good courage, you beasts of the plain, for the plains of the wilderness have budded, for the trees have borne their fruit, the fig tree and the vine have yielded their strength.
23 Voi, figli di Sion, rallegratevi, gioite nel Signore vostro Dio, perchè vi dà la pioggia in giusta misura, per voi fa scendere l'acqua, la pioggia d'autunno e di primavera, come in passato.
Rejoice then and be glad, you children of Sion, in the Lord your God: for he has given you food fully, and he will rain on you the early and the latter rain, as before.
24 Le aie si riempiranno di grano e i tini traboccheranno di mosto e d'olio.
And the floors shall be filled with corn, and the presses shall overflow with wine and oil.
25 «Vi compenserò delle annate che hanno divorate la locusta e il bruco, il grillo e le cavallette, quel grande esercito che ho mandato contro di voi.
And I will recompense you for the years which the locust, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, and the cankerworm have eaten, [even] my great army, which I sent against you.
26 Mangerete in abbondanza, a sazietà, e loderete il nome del Signore vostro Dio, che in mezzo a voi ha fatto meraviglie.
And you shall eat abundantly, and be satisfied, and shall praise the name of the Lord your God [for the things] which he has wrought wonderfully with you: and my people shall not be ashamed for ever.
27 Voi riconoscerete che io sono in mezzo ad Israele, e che sono io il Signore vostro Dio, e non ce ne sono altri: mai più vergogna per il mio popolo.
And you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and [that] I am the Lord your God, and [that] there is none else beside me; and my people shall no more be ashamed for ever.
28 Dopo questo, io effonderò il mio spirito sopra ogni uomo e diverranno profeti i vostri figli e le vostre figlie; i vostri anziani faranno sogni, i vostri giovani avranno visioni.
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
29 Anche sopra gli schiavi e sulle schiave, in quei giorni, effonderò il mio spirito.
And on my servants and on [my] handmaids in those days will I pour out of my Spirit.
30 Farò prodigi nel cielo e sulla terra, sangue e fuoco e colonne di fumo.
And I will show wonders in heaven, and upon the earth, blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke.
31 Il sole si cambierà in tenebre e la luna in sangue, prima che venga il giorno del Signore, grande e terribile.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord come.
32 Chiunque invocherà il nome del Signore sarà salvato, poichè sul monte Sion e in Gerusalemme vi sarà la salvezza, come ha detto il Signore, anche per i superstiti che il Signore avrà chiamati.
And it shall come to pass [that] whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved: for in mount Sion and in Jerusalem shall the saved one be as the Lord has said, and they that have glad tidings preached to them, whom the Lord has called.
