Giobbe 35
1 Eliu riprese a dire:
Moreover Elihu proceeded, and said:
2 Ti pare di aver pensato cosa giusta, quando dicesti: «Ho ragione davanti a Dio»?
Dost thou then think this to be right? Thou hast said, “I am more righteous than God.”
3 O quando hai detto: «Che te ne importa? Che utilità ne ho dal mio peccato»?
For thou askest, “What advantage have I? What have I gained, more than if I had sinned?”
4 Risponderò a te con discorsi e ai tuoi amici insieme con te.
I will answer thee, And thy companions with thee.
5 Contempla il cielo e osserva, considera le nubi: sono più alte di te.
Look up to the heavens, and see! And behold the clouds, which are high above thee!
6 Se pecchi, che gli fai? Se moltiplichi i tuoi delitti, che danno gli arrechi?
If thou sinnest, what doest thou against Him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou to him?
7 Se tu sei giusto, che cosa gli dai o che cosa riceve dalla tua mano?
If thou art righteous, what dost thou give him? Or what receiveth he at thy hand?
8 Su un uomo come te ricade la tua malizia, su un figlio d'uomo la tua giustizia!
Thy wickedness injureth only a man like thyself, And thy righteousness profiteth only a son of man.
9 Si grida per la gravità dell'oppressione, si invoca aiuto sotto il braccio dei potenti,
The oppressed cry out on account of the multitude of wrongs; They cry aloud on account of the arm of the mighty.
10 ma non si dice: «Dov'è quel Dio che mi ha creato, che concede nella notte canti di gioia;
But none saith, “Where is God, my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night;
11 che ci rende più istruiti delle bestie selvatiche, che ci fa più saggi degli uccelli del cielo?».
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, And maketh us wiser than the birds of heaven?”
12 Si grida, allora, ma egli non risponde di fronte alla superbia dei malvagi.
There they cry aloud on account of the pride of the wicked; But he giveth no answer.
13 Certo è falso dire: «Dio non ascolta e l'Onnipotente non presta attenzione»;
For God will not hear the vain supplication, Nor will the Almighty regard it;
14 più ancora quando tu dici che non lo vedi, che la tua causa sta innanzi a lui e tu in lui speri;
Much less when thou sayest thou canst not see him: Justice is with him, —only wait thou for him!
15 così pure quando dici che la sua ira non punisce né si cura molto dell'iniquità.
But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, Nor taken strict note of transgression,
16 Giobbe dunque apre invano la sua bocca e senza cognizione moltiplica le chiacchiere.
Therefore hath Job opened his mouth rashly, And multiplied words without knowledge.
