Giobbe 20
1 Zofar il Naamatita prese a dire:
Then answered Zophar the Na'amathite, and said,
2 Per questo i miei pensieri mi spingono a rispondere e perciò v'è questa fretta dentro di me.
Even therefore do my inmost thoughts give me an answer, and for this reason do I feel a strong excitement within me.
3 Ho ascoltato un rimprovero per me offensivo, ma uno spirito, dal mio interno, mi spinge a replicare.
Reproof which casteth shame on me must I hear; yet out of my understanding will the spirit give me an answer.
4 Non sai tu che da sempre, da quando l'uomo fu posto sulla terra,
Dost thou know this? from the very beginning of things, from the very time when man was placed upon earth it was,
5 il trionfo degli empi è breve e la gioia del perverso è d'un istante?
That the triumphal shouting of the wicked is ever of but a recent date, and the joy of the hypocrite endureth only for a moment.
6 Anche se innalzasse fino al cielo la sua statura e il suo capo toccasse le nubi,
Though his exaltation should mount up to the heavens, and his head should reach unto the clouds;
7 come lo sterco sarebbe spazzato per sempre e chi lo aveva visto direbbe: «Dov'è?».
Yet when he but turneth round will he vanish for ever; those who have seen him will say, Where is he?
8 Svanirà come un sogno, e non si troverà più, si dileguerà come visione notturna.
Like a dream will he fly away, and men will find him no more; yea, he will be chased away like a vision of the night.
9 L'occhio avvezzo a vederlo più non lo vedrà, né più lo scorgerà la sua dimora.
If an eye have surveyed him, it will not do so again, and it will not behold him any more in his place.
10 I suoi figli dovranno risarcire i poveri, le loro mani restituiranno le sue ricchezze.
His children will suffer oppression from the indigent, and his hands will have to restore his [ill-gotten] wealth.
11 Le sue ossa erano ancora piene di giovinezza, ma con lui giacciono nella polvere.
[Now] his bones are full of his youthful vigor; but it will [suddenly] lie down with him in the dust.
12 Se alla sua bocca fu dolce il male, se lo teneva nascosto sotto la sua lingua,
If the evil be sweet in his mouth, he will conceal it under his tongue;
13 assaporandolo senza inghiottirlo, se lo tratteneva in mezzo al suo palato:
He will cherish it, and not forsake it; and hold it back within his palate;
14 il suo cibo gli si guasterà nelle viscere, veleno d'aspidi gli sarà nell'intestino.
His food is thus changed within his bowels, and becometh the venom of asps within him.
15 I beni divorati ora rivomita, Dio glieli caccia fuori dal ventre.
The wealth which he hath swallowed, will he have to vomit up again; God will drive it out of his belly.
16 Veleno d'aspide ha succhiato, una lingua di vipera lo uccide.
The poison of asps will he have to suck; the viper's tongue will slay him.
17 Non vedrà più ruscelli d'olio, fiumi di miele e fior di latte;
He shall not look with pleasure on streams, on flowing brooks of honey and cream.
18 renderà i sudati acquisti senza assaggiarli, come non godrà del frutto del suo commercio,
He restoreth what he hath labored for, and will not swallow it down; however much he may have obtained by toil, he will not have any joy of it.
19 perché ha oppresso e abbandonato i miseri, ha rubato case invece di costruirle;
Because he oppressed and forsook the indigent; because he took violently away a house, shall he not rebuild it;
20 perché non ha saputo essere pago dei suoi beni, con i suoi tesori non si salverà.
Because he knew not quietness in his bosom, shall he not escape through what is the most precious to him.
21 Nulla è sfuggito alla sua voracità, per questo non durerà il suo benessere.
Nothing was spared from his craving to eat: therefore shall his wealth not prosper.
22 Nel colmo della sua abbondanza si troverà in miseria; ogni sorta di sciagura piomberà su di lui.
In the fulness of his abundance will distress assail him: every hand of [those he] troubled will come against him.
23 Quando starà per riempire il suo ventre, Dio scaglierà su di lui la fiamma del suo sdegno, e gli farà piovere addosso brace.
In order to fill his belly, [God] will send out against him the fury of his wrath, and will rain it upon him for his eating.
24 Se sfuggirà l'arma di ferro, lo trafiggerà l'arco di bronzo:
If he flee from the iron weapon, the brazen bow will strike him through.
25 gli uscirà il dardo dalla schiena, una spada lucente dal fegato. Lo assaliranno i terrori;
He draweth it, and it cometh out of the body; yea, out of his gall the glittering [arrow] cometh forth: over him come the terrors [of death].
26 tutte le tenebre gli sono riservate. Lo divorerà un fuoco non acceso da un uomo, esso consumerà quanto è rimasto nella sua tenda.
Entire darkness is laid by for his treasures: a fire not urged by blowing will consume him; it will destroy any one that is left in his tent.
27 Riveleranno i cieli la sua iniquità e la terra si alzerà contro di lui.
The heavens will lay open his iniquity; and the earth will raise herself up against him.
28 Un'alluvione travolgerà la sua casa, scorrerà nel giorno dell'ira.
The product of his house will be banished, flowing away on the day of his wrath.
29 Questa è la sorte che Dio riserva all'uomo perverso, la parte a lui decretata da Dio.
This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and his decreed heritage from God.
