Osea 4
1 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, o Israeliti, poichè il Signore ha un processo con gli abitanti del paese. Non c'è infatti sincerità né amore del prossimo, nè conoscenza di Dio nel paese.
Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land; for there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 Si giura, si mentisce, si uccide, si ruba, si commette adulterio, si fa strage e si versa sangue su sangue.
Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, — they break out; and blood toucheth blood.
3 Per questo è in lutto il paese e chiunque vi abita langue insieme con gli animali della terra e con gli uccelli del cielo; perfino i pesci del mare periranno.
For this shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowl of the heavens, yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
4 Ma nessuno accusi, nessuno contesti; contro di te, sacerdote, muovo l'accusa.
Yet let no man strive, and let no man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
5 Tu inciampi di giorno e il profeta con te inciampa di notte e fai perire tua madre.
And thou shalt stumble by day; and the prophet also shall stumble with thee by night: and I will destroy thy mother.
6 Perisce il mio popolo per mancanza di conoscenza. Poichè tu rifiuti la conoscenza, rifiuterò te come mio sacerdote; hai dimenticato la legge del tuo Dio e io dimenticherò i tuoi figli.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; for thou hast rejected knowledge, and I will reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
7 Tutti hanno peccato contro di me; cambierò la loro gloria in vituperio.
As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.
8 Essi si nutrono del peccato del mio popolo e sono avidi della sua iniquità.
They eat the sin of my people, and their soul longeth for their iniquity.
9 Il popolo e il sacerdote avranno la stessa sorte; li punirò per la loro condotta, e li retribuirò dei loro misfatti.
And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings;
10 Mangeranno, ma non si sazieranno, si prostituiranno, ma non avranno prole, perchè hanno abbandonato il Signore per darsi alla prostituzione.
and they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: for they have left off taking heed to Jehovah.
11 Il vino e il mosto tolgono il senno.
Fornication, and wine, and new wine take away the heart.
12 Il mio popolo consulta il suo pezzo di legno e il suo bastone gli dà il responso, poichè uno spirito di prostituzione li svia e si prostituiscono, allontanandosi dal loro Dio.
My people ask counsel of their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of whoredoms causeth [them] to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God:
13 Sulla cima dei monti fanno sacrifici e sui colli bruciano incensi sotto la quercia, i pioppi e i terebinti, perchè buona è la loro ombra. Perciò si prostituiscono le vostre figlie e le vostre nuore commettono adulterio.
they sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because the shade thereof is good; therefore your daughters play the harlot and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
14 Non punirò le vostre figlie se si prostituiscono, nè le vostre nuore se commettono adulterio; poichè essi stessi si appartano con le prostitute e con le prostitute sacre offrono sacrifici; un popolo, che non comprende, va a precipizio.
I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your daughters-in-law for their committing adultery; for they themselves go aside with harlots, and they sacrifice with prostitutes: and the people that doth not understand shall come to ruin.
15 Se ti prostituisci tu, Israele, non si renda colpevole Giuda. Non andate a Gàlgala, non salite a Bet-Avèn, non giurate per il Signore vivente.
Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, let not Judah trespass; and come ye not unto Gilgal, neither go up to Beth-aven, nor swear [As] Jehovah liveth!
16 E poiché come giovenca ribelle si ribella Israele, forse potrà pascolarlo il Signore come agnello in luoghi aperti?
For Israel is refractory as an untractable heifer; now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a wide [pasture].
17 Si è alleato agli idoli Efraim,
— Ephraim is joined to idols: leave him alone.
18 si accompagna ai beoni; si son dati alla prostituzione, han preferito il disonore alla loro gloria.
Their drink is sour; they give themselves up to whoredom; her great men passionately love [their] shame.
19 Un vento li travolgerà con le sue ali e si vergogneranno dei loro sacrifici.
The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
