1 Diede poi questo ordine al maggiordomo della sua casa: «Riempi i sacchi di quegli uomini di tanti viveri quanti ne possono contenere e metti il denaro di ciascuno alla bocca del suo sacco.
And he commaunded the rueler of his house saynge: fyll the mens sackes with food as moch as they can carie
2 Insieme metterai la mia coppa, la coppa d'argento, alla bocca del sacco del più giovane, con il denaro del suo grano». Quegli fece secondo l'ordine di Giuseppe.
and put euery mans money in his bagge mouth and put my syluer cuppe in the sackes mouth of the yongest and his corne money also. And he dyd as Ioseph had sayde.
3 Al mattino, fattosi chiaro, quegli uomini furono fatti partire con i loro asini.
And in ye mornynge as soone as it was lighte the me were let goo with their asses.
4 Erano appena usciti dalla città e ancora non si erano allontanati, quando Giuseppe disse al maggiordomo della sua casa: «Su, insegui quegli uomini, raggiungili e dì loro: Perché avete reso male per bene?
And when they were out of the cytie and not yet ferre awaye Ioseph sayde vnto the ruelar of his house: vp and folowe after the men and ouertake them and saye vnto them: wherefore haue ye rewarded euell for good?
5 Non è forse questa la coppa in cui beve il mio signore e per mezzo della quale egli suole trarre i presagi? Avete fatto male a fare così».
is that not the cuppe of which my lorde drynketh ad doth he not prophesie therin? ye haue euell done that ye haue done.
6 Egli li raggiunse e ripetè loro queste parole.
And he ouertoke them and sayde the same wordes vnto them.
7 Quelli gli dissero: «Perché il mio signore dice queste cose? Lungi dai tuoi servi il fare una tale cosa!
And they answered him: wherfore sayth my lorde soch wordes? God forbydd that thy servauntes shulde doo so.
8 Ecco, il denaro che abbiamo trovato alla bocca dei nostri sacchi te lo abbiamo riportato dal paese di Canaan e come potremmo rubare argento od oro dalla casa del tuo padrone?
Beholde the money which we founde in oure sackes mouthes we brought agayne vnto the out of the lande of Canaa: how then shulde we steale out of my lordes house ether syluer or golde?
9 Quello dei tuoi servi, presso il quale si troverà, sarà messo a morte e anche noi diventeremo schiavi del mio signore».
with whosoeuer of thy seruauntes it be founde let him dye and let vs also be my lordes bondmen.
10 Rispose: «Ebbene, come avete detto, così sarà: colui, presso il quale si troverà, sarà mio schiavo e voi sarete innocenti».
And he sayde: Now therfore acordynge vnto youre woordes he with whom it is found shalbe my seruaunte: but ye shalbe harmelesse.
11 Ciascuno si affrettò a scaricare a terra il suo sacco e lo aprì.
And attonce euery man toke downe his sacke to the grounde ad every man opened his sacke.
12 Quegli li frugò dal maggiore al più piccolo, e la coppa fu trovata nel sacco di Beniamino.
And he serched and began at the eldest and left at the yongest. And the cuppe was founde in Ben Iamins sacke.
13 Allora essi si stracciarono le vesti, ricaricarono ciascuno il proprio asino e tornarono in città.
Then they rent their clothes and laded euery man his asse and went agayne vnto the cytie.
14 Giuda e i suoi fratelli vennero nella casa di Giuseppe, che si trovava ancora là, e si gettarono a terra davanti a lui.
And Iuda and his brethre came to Iosephs house for he was yet there ad they fell before him on the grounde.
15 Giuseppe disse loro: «Che azione avete commessa? Non sapete che un uomo come me è capace di indovinare?».
And Ioseph sayde vnto the: what dede is this which ye haue done? wist ye not that soch a man as I can prophesie?
16 Giuda disse: «Che diremo al mio signore? Come parlare? Come giustificarci? Dio ha scoperto la colpa dei tuoi servi... Eccoci schiavi del mio signore, noi e colui che è stato trovato in possesso della coppa».
Then sayde Iuda: what shall we saye vnto my lorde what shall we speake or what excuse can we make? God hath founde out ye wekednesse of thy seruauntes. Beholde both we and he with whom the cuppe is founde are thy seruauntes.
17 Ma egli rispose: «Lungi da me il far questo! L'uomo trovato in possesso della coppa, lui sarà mio schiavo: quanto a voi, tornate in pace da vostro padre».
And he answered: God forbyd ye I shulde do so the man with whom the cuppe is founde he shalbe my seruaunte: but goo ye in peace vn to youre father.
18 Allora Giuda gli si fece innanzi e disse: «Mio signore, sia permesso al tuo servo di far sentire una parola agli orecchi del mio signore; non si accenda la tua ira contro il tuo servo, perché il faraone è come te!
Then Iuda went vnto him and sayde: oh my lorde let thy servaunte speake a worde in my lordes audyence and be not wrooth with thi servaunte: for thou art euen as Pharao.
19 Il mio signore aveva interrogato i suoi servi: Avete un padre o un fratello?
My lorde axed his seruaunte sainge: haue ye a father or a brother?
20 E noi avevamo risposto al mio signore: Abbiamo un padre vecchio e un figlio ancor giovane natogli in vecchiaia, suo fratello è morto ed egli è rimasto il solo dei figli di sua madre e suo padre lo ama.
And we answered my lord we haue a father that is old and a yonge lad which he begat in his age: ad the brother of the sayde lad is dead and he is all that is left of that mother. And his father loueth him.
21 Tu avevi detto ai tuoi servi: Conducetelo qui da me, perché lo possa vedere con i miei occhi.
Then sayde my lorde vnto his seruauntes brynge him vnto me that I maye sett myne eyes apon him.
22 Noi avevamo risposto al mio signore: Il giovinetto non può abbandonare suo padre: se lascerà suo padre, questi morirà.
And we answered my lorde that the lad coude not goo from his father for if he shulde leaue his father he were but a deed man.
23 Ma tu avevi soggiunto ai tuoi servi: Se il vostro fratello minore non verrà qui con voi, non potrete più venire alla mia presenza.
Than saydest thou vnto thy servauntes: excepte youre yongest brother come with you loke that ye se my face no moare.
24 Quando dunque eravamo ritornati dal tuo servo, mio padre, gli riferimmo le parole del mio signore.
And when we came vnto thy servaunt oure father we shewed him what my lorde had sayde.
25 E nostro padre disse: Tornate ad acquistare per noi un pò di viveri.
And when oure father sayde vnto vs goo agayne and bye vs a litle fode:
26 E noi rispondemmo: Non possiamo ritornare laggiù: se c'è con noi il nostro fratello minore, andremo; altrimenti, non possiamo essere ammessi alla presenza di quell'uomo senza avere con noi il nostro fratello minore.
we sayd yt we coude not goo. Neverthelesse if oure youngeste brother go with vs then will we goo for we maye not see the mannes face excepte oure yongest brother be with vs.
27 Allora il tuo servo, mio padre, ci disse: Voi sapete che due figli mi aveva procreato mia moglie.
Then sayde thy servaunt oure father vnto vs. Ye knowe that my wyfe bare me. ij. sonnes.
28 Uno partì da me e dissi: certo è stato sbranato! Da allora non l'ho più visto.
And the one went out from me and it is sayde of a suertie that he is torne in peaces of wyld beastes and I sawe him not sence.
29 Se ora mi porterete via anche questo e gli capitasse una disgrazia, voi fareste scendere con dolore la mia canizie nella tomba. (Sheol h7585)
Yf ye shall take this also awaye fro me and some mysfortune happen apon him then shall ye brynge my gray heed with sorow vnto the grave. (Sheol h7585)
30 Ora, quando io arriverò dal tuo servo, mio padre, e il giovinetto non sarà con noi, mentre la vita dell'uno è legata alla vita dell'altro,
Now therfore whe I come to thy servaunt my father yf the lad be not with me: seinge that his lyfe hageth by the laddes lyfe
31 appena egli avrà visto che il giovinetto non è con noi, morirà e i tuoi servi avranno fatto scendere con dolore negli inferi la canizie del tuo servo, nostro padre. (Sheol h7585)
then as soone as he seeth that the lad is not come he will dye. So shall we thy servautes brynge the gray hedde of thy servaunt oure father with sorow vnto the grave. (Sheol h7585)
32 Ma il tuo servo si è reso garante del giovinetto presso mio padre: Se non te lo ricondurrò, sarò colpevole verso mio padre per tutta la vita.
For I thy servaunt became suertie for the lad vnto my father and sayde: yf I bringe him not vnto the agayne. I will bere the blame all my life loge.
33 Ora, lascia che il tuo servo rimanga invece del giovinetto come schiavo del mio signore e il giovinetto torni lassù con i suoi fratelli!
Now therfore let me thy servaunt byde here for ye lad and be my lordes bondman: and let the lad goo home with his brethern.
34 Perché, come potrei tornare da mio padre senz'avere con me il giovinetto? Ch'io non veda il male che colpirebbe mio padre!».
For how can I goo vnto my father and the lad not wyth me: lest I shulde see the wretchednes that shall come on my father.
