Genesi 3
1 Il serpente era la più astuta di tutte le bestie selvatiche fatte dal Signore Dio. Egli disse alla donna: «E' vero che Dio ha detto: Non dovete mangiare di nessun albero del giardino?».
Now, the serpent, was more crafty than any living thing of the field which Yahweh God had made, so he said unto the woman, Can it really be that God hath said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 Rispose la donna al serpente: «Dei frutti degli alberi del giardino noi possiamo mangiare,
And the woman said unto the serpent, —Of the fruit of the trees of the garden, we may eat;
3 ma del frutto dell'albero che sta in mezzo al giardino Dio ha detto: Non ne dovete mangiare e non lo dovete toccare, altrimenti morirete».
but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said Ye shall not eat of it neither shall ye touch it, —lest ye die.
4 Ma il serpente disse alla donna: «Non morirete affatto!
And the serpent said unto the woman, —Ye shall not die,
5 Anzi, Dio sa che quando voi ne mangiaste, si aprirebbero i vostri occhi e diventereste come Dio, conoscendo il bene e il male».
For God doth know, that in the day ye eat thereof, then shall your eyes be opened, —and ye shall become like God, knowing good and evil.
6 Allora la donna vide che l'albero era buono da mangiare, gradito agli occhi e desiderabile per acquistare saggezza; prese del suo frutto e ne mangiò, poi ne diede anche al marito, che era con lei, e anch'egli ne mangiò.
And, when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was desirable to the eyes and the tree was pleasant to make one knowing, then took she of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and she gave to her husband also, along with her, and he did eat.
7 Allora si aprirono gli occhi di tutti e due e si accorsero di essere nudi; intrecciarono foglie di fico e se ne fecero cinture.
Then were opened the eyes of them both, and they knew that, naked, they were, —so they tacked together fig-leaves, and made for themselves girdles,
8 Poi udirono il Signore Dio che passeggiava nel giardino alla brezza del giorno e l'uomo con sua moglie si nascosero dal Signore Dio, in mezzo agli alberi del giardino.
Then heard they the sound of Yahweh God, walking to and fro in the garden at the breeze of the day, —so he hid himself—the man with his wife, from the face of Yahweh God, amid the trees of the garden.
9 Ma il Signore Dio chiamò l'uomo e gli disse: «Dove sei?».
And Yahweh God called unto the man, —and said to him, Where art thou?
10 Rispose: «Ho udito il tuo passo nel giardino: ho avuto paura, perché sono nudo, e mi sono nascosto».
And he said, The sound of thee, heard I in the garden, and I was afraid, for, naked, was I, so I hid myself.
11 Riprese: «Chi ti ha fatto sapere che eri nudo? Hai forse mangiato dell'albero di cui ti avevo comandato di non mangiare?».
And he said, Who told thee that, naked, thou wast? Of the tree whereof I commanded thee not to eat, hast thou eaten?
12 Rispose l'uomo: «La donna che tu mi hai posta accanto mi ha dato dell'albero e io ne ho mangiato».
And the man said, —The woman whom thou didst put with me, she, gave me of the tree, so I did eat.
13 Il Signore Dio disse alla donna: «Che hai fatto?». Rispose la donna: «Il serpente mi ha ingannata e io ho mangiato».
Then said Yahweh God to the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, the serpent, deceived me, so I did eat.
14 «Poiché tu hai fatto questo, sii tu maledetto più di tutto il bestiame e più di tutte le bestie selvatiche; sul tuo ventre camminerai e polvere mangerai per tutti i giorni della tua vita. Allora il Signore Dio disse al serpente:
Then said Yahweh God unto the serpent—Because thou hast done this, Accursed, art thou above every tame-beast, and above every wild-beast of the field, —on thy belly, shalt thou go, and dust, shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.
15 Io porrò inimicizia tra te e la donna, tra la tua stripe e la sua stirpe: questa ti schiaccerà la testa e tu le insidierai il calcagno».
And enmity, will I put between thee, and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed, —He shall crush thy head, but, thou, shalt crush his heel.
16 «Moltiplicherò i tuoi dolori e le tue gravidanze, con dolore partorirai figli. Verso tuo marito sarà il tuo istinto, ma egli ti dominerà». Alla donna disse:
Unto the woman, he said, I will, increase, thy pain of pregnancy, In pain, shalt thou bear children, —Yet, unto thy husband, shall be thy longing, Though, he, rule over thee.
17 All'uomo disse: «Poiché hai ascoltato la voce di tua moglie e hai mangiato dell'albero, di cui ti avevo comandato: Non ne devi mangiare, maledetto sia il suolo per causa tua! Con dolore ne trarrai il cibo per tutti i giorni della tua vita.
And, to the man, he said, Because thou didst hearken to the voice of thy wife, and so didst eat of the tree as to which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it, Accursed be the ground for thy sake, In pain, shalt thou eat of it, all the days of thy life;
18 Spine e cardi produrrà per te e mangerai l'erba campestre.
Thorn also and thistle, shall it shoot forth to thee, —when thou hast come to eat of the herb of the field:
19 Con il sudore del tuo volto mangerai il pane; finchè tornerai alla terra, perchè da essa sei stato tratto: polvere tu sei e in polvere tornerai!».
In the sweat of thy face, shalt thou eat bread, until thou return to the ground, because therefrom, wast thou taken, —For, dust, thou art, And, unto dust, shalt thou return.
20 L'uomo chiamò la moglie Eva, perché essa fu la madre di tutti i viventi.
So the man called the name of his wife, Eve, —in that, she, was made mother of every one living.
21 Il Signore Dio fece all'uomo e alla donna tuniche di pelli e le vestì.
And Yahweh God made for the man—and for his wife—tunics of skin and clothed them.
22 Il Signore Dio disse allora: «Ecco l'uomo è diventato come uno di noi, per la conoscenza del bene e del male. Ora, egli non stenda più la mano e non prenda anche dell'albero della vita, ne mangi e viva sempre!».
Then said Yahweh God—Lo! man, hath become like one of us, in respect of knowing good and evil, —Now, therefore, lest he thrust forth his hand, and take even of the tree of life, and eat, and live to times age-abiding, —
23 Il Signore Dio lo scacciò dal giardino di Eden, perché lavorasse il suolo da dove era stato tratto.
So Yahweh God put him forth from the garden of Eden, —to till the ground wherefrom he had been taken.
24 Scacciò l'uomo e pose ad oriente del giardino di Eden i cherubini e la fiamma della spada folgorante, per custodire la via all'albero della vita.
So he expelled the man, —and caused to dwell—in front of the garden of Eden—cherubim and a brandishing sword—flame, to keep the way to the tree of life.
