1 Il re Assuero impose un tributo al continente e alle isole del mare.

King Xerxes imposed taxes throughout the empire, even to its most distant shores.

2 Quanto poi a tutti i fatti concernenti la potenza e il valore di Mardocheo e quanto alla completa descrizione della sua grandezza e della sua elevazione da parte del re, sono cose scritte nel libro delle cronache dei re di Media e di Persia.

All he accomplished through his power and strength, as well as the complete account of the high position to which the king promoted Mordecai, are written down in the Book of the Records of the kings of Media and Persia.

3 Infatti il giudeo Mardocheo era il secondo dopo il re Assuero: grande fra i Giudei e amato dalla moltitudine dei suoi fratelli, cercava il bene del suo popolo e parlava in favore della prosperità di tutta la sua stirpe.
