Deuteronomio 29

1 Queste sono le parole dell'alleanza che il Signore ordinò a Mosè di stabilire con gli Israeliti nel paese di Moab, oltre l'alleanza che aveva stabilito con loro sull'Oreb.

These are the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which He made with them in Horeb.

2 Mosè convocò tutto Israele e disse loro: «Voi avete visto quanto il Signore ha fatto sotto i vostri occhi, nel paese d'Egitto, al faraone, a tutti i suoi ministri e a tutto il suo paese;

And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them: Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;

3 le prove grandiose che i tuoi occhi hanno visto, i segni e i grandi prodigi.

the great trials which thine eyes saw, the signs and those great wonders;

4 Ma fino ad oggi il Signore non vi ha dato una mente per comprendere, né occhi per vedere, né orecchi per udire.

but the LORD hath not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

5 Io vi ho condotti per quarant'anni nel deserto; i vostri mantelli non vi si sono logorati addosso e i vostri sandali non vi si sono logorati ai piedi.

And I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.

6 Non avete mangiato pane, non avete bevuto vino, né bevanda inebriante, perché sapevate che io sono il Signore vostro Dio.

Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink; that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.

7 Quando foste arrivati in questo luogo e Sicon re di Chesbon e Og re di Basan uscirono contro di noi per combattere, noi li abbiamo sconfitti,

And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them.

8 abbiamo preso il loro paese e l'abbiamo dato in possesso ai Rubeniti, ai Gaditi e a metà della tribù di Manàsse.

And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.

9 Osservate dunque le parole di questa alleanza e mettetela in pratica, perché abbiate successo in quanto farete.

Observe therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may make all that ye do to prosper.

10 Oggi voi state tutti davanti al Signore vostro Dio, i vostri capi, le vostre tribù, i vostri anziani, i vostri scribi, tutti gli Israeliti,

Ye are standing this day all of you before the LORD your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,

11 i vostri bambini, le vostre mogli, il forestiero che sta in mezzo al tuo accampamento, da chi ti spacca la legna a chi ti attinge l'acqua,

your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in the midst of thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water;

12 per entrare nell'alleanza del Signore tuo Dio e nell'imprecazione che il Signore tuo Dio sancisce oggi con te,

that thou shouldest enter into the covenant of the LORD thy God — and into His oath — which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day;

13 per costituirti oggi suo popolo e per essere Egli il tuo Dio, come ti ha detto e come ha giurato ai tuoi padri, ad Abramo, ad Isacco e a Giacobbe.

that He may establish thee this day unto Himself for a people, and that He may be unto thee a God, as He spoke unto thee, and as He swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

14 Non soltanto con voi io sancisco questa alleanza e pronunzio questa imprecazione,

Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;

15 ma con chi oggi sta qui con noi davanti al Signore nostro Dio e con chi non è oggi qui con noi.

but with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day —

16 Poiché voi sapete come abbiamo abitato nel paese d'Egitto e come siamo passati in mezzo alle nazioni, che avete attraversate;

for ye know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the midst of the nations through which ye passed;

17 avete visto i loro abomini e gli idoli di legno, di pietra, d'argento e d'oro, che sono presso di loro.

and ye have seen their detestable things, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were with them —

18 Non vi sia tra voi uomo o donna o famiglia o tribù che volga oggi il cuore lungi dal Signore nostro Dio, per andare a servire gli dei di quelle nazioni. Non vi sia tra di voi radice alcuna che produca veleno e assenzio.

lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

19 Se qualcuno, udendo le parole di questa imprecazione, si lusinga in cuor suo dicendo: Avrò benessere, anche se mi regolerò secondo l'ostinazione del mio cuore, con il pensiero che il terreno irrigato faccia sparire quello arido,

and it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying: 'I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart — that the watered be swept away with the dry';

20 il Signore non consentirà a perdonarlo; anzi in tal caso la collera del Signore e la sua gelosia si accenderanno contro quell'uomo e si poserà sopra di lui ogni imprecazione scritta in questo libro e il Signore cancellerà il suo nome sotto il cielo.

the LORD will not be willing to pardon him, but then the anger of the LORD and His jealousy shall be kindled against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven;

21 Il Signore lo segregherà, per sua sventura, da tutte le tribù d'Israele, secondo tutte le imprecazioni dell'alleanza scritta in questo libro della legge.

and the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.

22 Allora la generazione futura, i vostri figli che sorgeranno dopo di voi e lo straniero che verrà da una terra lontana, quando vedranno i flagelli di quel paese e le malattie che il Signore gli avrà inflitte:

And the generation to come, your children that shall rise up after you, and the foreigner that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses wherewith the LORD hath made it sick;

23 tutto il suo suolo sarà zolfo, sale, arsura, non sarà seminato e non germoglierà, né erba di sorta vi crescerà, come dopo lo sconvolgimento di Sòdoma, di Gomorra, di Adma e di Zeboim, distrutte dalla sua collera e dal suo furore,

and that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His anger, and in His wrath;

24 diranno, dunque, tutte le nazioni: Perché il Signore ha trattato così questo paese? Perché l'ardore di questa grande collera?

even all the nations shall say 'Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?'

25 E si risponderà: Perché hanno abbandonato l'alleanza del Signore, Dio dei loro padri: l'alleanza che egli aveva stabilita con loro, quando li ha fatti uscire dal paese d'Egitto;

then men shall say: 'Because they forsook the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them forth out of the land of Egypt;

26 perché sono andati a servire altri dei e si sono prostrati dinanzi a loro: dei che essi non avevano conosciuti e che egli non aveva dato loro in sorte.

and went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods that they knew not, and that He had not allotted unto them;

27 Per questo si è accesa la collera del Signore contro questo paese, mandandovi contro tutte le imprecazioni scritte in questo libro;

therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book;

28 il Signore li ha strappati dal loro suolo con ira, con furore e con grande sdegno e li ha gettati in un altro paese, come oggi.

and the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day'. —

29 Le cose occulte appartengono al Signore nostro Dio, ma le cose rivelate sono per noi e per i nostri figli, sempre, perché pratichiamo tutte le parole di questa legge.

The secret things belong unto the LORD our God; but the things that are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
