Amos 2

1 Così dice il Signore: «Per tre misfatti di Moab e per quattro non revocherò il mio decreto, perchè ha bruciato le ossa del re di Edom per ridurle in calce;

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime.

2 appiccherò il fuoco a Moab e divorerà i palazzi di Keriòt e Moab morirà nel tumulto, al grido di guerra, al suono del corno;

And I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerijoth; and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, [and] with the sound of the trumpet.

3 farò sparire da lui il giudice e tutti i suoi capi ucciderò insieme con lui», dice il Signore.

And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith Jehovah.

4 Così dice il Signore: «Per tre misfatti di Giuda e per quattro non revocherò il mio decreto, perchè hanno disprezzato la legge del Signore e non ne hanno osservato i decreti; si son lasciati traviare dai loro idoli che i loro padri avevano seguito;

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they have despised the law of Jehovah, and have not kept his statutes; and their lies have caused them to err, after which their fathers walked.

5 appiccherò il fuoco a Giuda e divorerà i palazzi di Gerusalemme».

And I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

6 Così dice il Signore: «Per tre misfatti d'Israele e per quattro non revocherò il mio decreto, perchè hanno venduto il giusto per denaro e il povero per un paio di sandali;

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke its sentence; because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes;

7 essi che calpestano come la polvere della terra la testa dei poveri e fanno deviare il cammino dei miseri; e padre e figlio vanno dalla stessa ragazza, profanando così il mio santo nome.

panting after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turning aside the way of the meek; and a man and his father will go in unto the [same] maid, to profane my holy name.

8 Su vesti prese come pegno si stendono presso ogni altare e bevono il vino confiscato come ammenda nella casa del loro Dio.

And they lay [themselves] down by every altar upon clothes taken in pledge, and they drink [in] the house of their God the wine of the condemned.

9 Eppure io ho sterminato davanti a loro l'Amorreo, la cui statura era come quella dei cedri, e la forza come quella della quercia; ho strappato i suoi frutti in alto e le sue radici di sotto.

But I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was as the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; but I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

10 Io vi ho fatti uscire dal paese di Egitto e vi ho condotti per quarant'anni nel deserto, per darvi in possesso il paese dell'Amorreo.

And I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.

11 Ho fatto sorgere profeti tra i vostri figli e nazirei fra i vostri giovani. Non è forse così, o Israeliti?». Oracolo del Signore.

And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, ye children of Israel? saith Jehovah.

12 «Ma voi avete fatto bere vino ai nazirei e ai profeti avete ordinato: Non profetate!

And ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.

13 Ebbene, io vi affonderò nella terra come affonda un carro quando è tutto carico di paglia.

Behold, I will press upon you, as a cart presseth that is full of sheaves.

14 Allora nemmeno l'uomo agile potrà più fuggire, nè l'uomo forte usare la sua forza; il prode non potrà salvare la sua vita

And flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver his soul.

15 né l'arciere resisterà; non scamperà il corridore, nè si salverà il cavaliere.

Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and the swift of foot shall not escape, and he that rideth the horse shall not deliver his soul;

16 Il più coraggioso fra i prodi fuggirà nudo in quel giorno!». Oracolo del Signore.

and he that is stout-hearted among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah.
