2 Samuele 3
1 La guerra tra la casa di Saul e la casa di Davide si protrasse a lungo. Davide con l'andar del tempo si faceva più forte, mentre la casa di Saul andava indebolendosi.
Now the war between the house of Saul and the house of David was protracted. And David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
2 In Ebron nacquero a Davide dei figli e furono: il maggiore Amnòn, nato da Achinoàm di Izreèl;
And sons were born to David in Hebron: His firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam of Jezreel;
3 il secondo Kileàb, da Abigail gia moglie di Nabal da Carmel; il terzo Assalonne, nato da Maaca, figlia di Talmài re di Ghesùr;
his second was Chileab, by Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; his third was Absalom, the son of Maacah daughter of King Talmai of Geshur;
4 il quarto Adonìa nato da Agghìt; il quinto Sefatìa, figlio di Abitàl;
his fourth was Adonijah, the son of Haggith; his fifth was Shephatiah, the son of Abital;
5 il sesto Itreàm, nato da Eglà moglie di Davide. Questi nacquero a Davide in Ebron.
and his sixth was Ithream, by David’s wife Eglah. These sons were born to David in Hebron.
6 Mentre durava la lotta tra la casa di Saul e quella di Davide, Abner era diventato potente nella casa di Saul.
During the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner had continued to strengthen his position in the house of Saul.
7 Saul aveva avuto una concubina chiamata Rizpà figlia di Aià. Ora Is-Bàal disse ad Abner: «Perché ti sei unito alla concubina di mio padre?».
Meanwhile, Saul had a concubine named Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. So Ish-bosheth questioned Abner, “Why did you sleep with my father’s concubine?”
8 Abner si adirò molto per le parole di Is-Bàal e disse: «Sono io una testa di cane, di quelli di Giuda? Fino ad oggi ho usato benevolenza alla casa di Saul tuo padre, favorendo i suoi fratelli e i suoi amici, e non ti ho fatto cadere nelle mani di Davide; oggi tu mi rimproveri una colpa di donna.
Abner was furious over Ish-bosheth’s accusation. “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah?” he asked. “All this time I have been loyal to the house of your father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends. I have not delivered you into the hand of David, but now you accuse me of wrongdoing with this woman!
9 Tanto faccia Dio ad Abner e anche peggio, se io non farò per Davide ciò che il Signore gli ha giurato:
May God punish Abner, and ever so severely, if I do not do for David what the LORD has sworn to him:
10 trasferire cioè il regno dalla casa di Saul e stabilire il trono di Davide su Israele e su Giuda, da Dan fino a Bersabea».
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and to establish the throne of David over Israel and Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”
11 Quegli non fu capace di rispondere una parola ad Abner, perché aveva paura di lui.
And for fear of Abner, Ish-bosheth did not dare to say another word to him.
12 Abner inviò subito messaggeri a Davide per dirgli: «A chi il paese?». Intendeva dire: «Fà alleanza con me ed ecco, la mia mano sarà con te per ricondurre a te tutto Israele».
Then Abner sent messengers in his place to say to David, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and surely my hand will be with you to bring all Israel over to you.”
13 Rispose: «Bene! Io farò alleanza con te. Però ho una cosa da chiederti ed è questa: non verrai alla mia presenza, se prima non mi condurrai davanti Mikal figlia di Saul, quando verrai a vedere il mio volto».
“Good,” replied David, “I will make a covenant with you. But there is one thing I require of you: Do not appear before me unless you bring Saul’s daughter Michal when you come to see me.”
14 Davide spedì messaggeri a Is-Bàal, figlio di Saul, intimandogli: «Restituisci mia moglie Mikal, che feci mia sposa al prezzo di cento membri di Filistei».
Then David sent messengers to say to Ish-bosheth son of Saul, “Give me back my wife, Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for a hundred Philistine foreskins.”
15 Is-Bàal mandò incaricati a toglierla al suo marito, Paltiel figlio di Lais.
So Ish-bosheth sent and took Michal from her husband Paltiel son of Laish.
16 Suo marito la seguì, camminando e piangendo dietro di lei fino a Bacurim. Poi Abner gli disse: «Torna indietro!» e quegli tornò.
Her husband followed her, weeping all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Go back.” So he returned home.
17 Intanto Abner rivolse questo discorso agli anziani d'Israele: «Da tempo voi ricercate Davide come vostro re.
Now Abner conferred with the elders of Israel and said, “In the past you sought David as your king.
18 Ora mettetevi al lavoro, perché il Signore ha detto e confermato a Davide: Per mezzo di Davide mio servo libererò Israele mio popolo dalle mani dei Filistei e dalle mani di tutti i suoi nemici».
Now take action, because the LORD has said to David, ‘Through My servant David I will save My people Israel from the hands of the Philistines and of all their enemies.’”
19 Abner ebbe colloqui anche con gli uomini di Beniamino. Poi Abner tornò solo da Davide in Ebron a riferirgli quanto era stato approvato da Israele e da tutta la casa di Beniamino.
Abner also spoke to the Benjamites and went to Hebron to tell David all that seemed good to Israel and to the whole house of Benjamin.
20 Abner venne dunque a Davide in Ebron con venti uomini e Davide fece servire un banchetto ad Abner e ai suoi uomini.
When Abner and twenty of his men came to David at Hebron, David held a feast for them.
21 Abner disse poi a Davide: «Sono pronto! Vado a radunare tutto Israele intorno al re mio signore. Essi faranno alleanza con te e regnerai su quanto tu desideri». Davide congedò poi Abner, che partì in pace.
Then Abner said to David, “Let me go at once, and I will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may rule over all that your heart desires.” So David dismissed Abner, and he went in peace.
22 Ed ecco, gli uomini di Davide e Ioab tornavano da una scorreria e portavano con sé grande bottino. Abner non era più con Davide in Ebron, perché questi lo aveva congedato, ed egli era partito in pace.
Just then David’s soldiers and Joab returned from a raid, bringing with them a great plunder. But Abner was not with David in Hebron because David had sent him on his way in peace.
23 Quando arrivarono Ioab e la sua truppa, fu riferito a Ioab: «E' venuto dal re Abner figlio di Ner ed egli l'ha congedato e se n'è andato in pace».
When Joab and all his troops arrived, he was informed, “Abner son of Ner came to see the king, who sent him on his way in peace.”
24 Ioab si presentò al re e gli disse: «Che hai fatto? Ecco, è venuto Abner da te; perché l'hai congedato ed egli se n'è andato?
So Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you. Why did you dismiss him? Now he is getting away!
25 Non sai chi è Abner figlio di Ner? E' venuto per ingannarti, per conoscere le tue mosse, per sapere ciò che fai».
Surely you realize that Abner son of Ner came to deceive you and to track your movements and all that you are doing.”
26 Ioab si allontanò da Davide e mandò messaggeri dietro Abner e lo fece tornare indietro dalla cisterna di Sira, senza che Davide lo sapesse.
As soon as Joab had left David, he sent messengers after Abner, who brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David was unaware of it.
27 Abner tornò a Ebron e Ioab lo prese in disparte in mezzo alla porta, come per parlargli in privato, e qui lo colpì al basso ventre e lo uccise, per vendicare il sangue di Asaèl suo fratello.
When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab pulled him aside into the gateway, as if to speak to him privately, and there Joab stabbed him in the stomach. So Abner died on account of the blood of Joab’s brother Asahel.
28 Davide seppe più tardi la cosa e protestò: «Sono innocente io e il mio regno per sempre davanti al Signore del sangue di Abner figlio di Ner.
Afterward, David heard about this and said, “I and my kingdom are forever guiltless before the LORD concerning the blood of Abner son of Ner.
29 Ricada sulla testa di Ioab e su tutta la casa di suo padre. Nella casa di Ioab non manchi mai chi soffra gonorrea o sia colpito da lebbra o maneggi il fuso, chi cada di spada o chi sia senza pane».
May it whirl over the heads of Joab and the entire house of his father, and may the house of Joab never be without one having a discharge or skin disease, or one who leans on a staff or falls by the sword or lacks food.”
30 Ioab e suo fratello Abisài avevano trucidato Abner, perché aveva ucciso Asaèl loro fratello a Gàbaon in battaglia.
(Joab and his brother Abishai murdered Abner because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.)
31 Davide disse a Ioab e a tutta la gente che era con lui: «Stracciatevi le vesti, vestitevi di sacco e fate lutto davanti ad Abner». Anche il re Davide seguiva la bara.
Then David ordered Joab and all the people with him, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner.” And King David himself walked behind the funeral bier.
32 Seppellirono Abner in Ebron e il re levò la sua voce e pianse davanti al sepolcro di Abner; pianse tutto il popolo.
When they buried Abner in Hebron, the king wept aloud at Abner’s tomb, and all the people wept.
33 «Come muore un insensato, doveva dunque Abner morire? Il re intonò un lamento funebre su Abner e disse:
And the king sang this lament for Abner: “Should Abner die the death of a fool?
34 Le tue mani non erano state legate, i tuoi piedi non erano stati stretti in catene! Sei caduto come si cade davanti ai malfattori!». Tutto il popolo riprese a piangere su di lui.
Your hands were not bound, your feet were not fettered. As a man falls before the wicked, so also you fell.” And all the people wept over him even more.
35 Tutto il popolo venne a invitare Davide perché prendesse cibo, mentre era ancora giorno; ma Davide giurò: «Tanto mi faccia Dio e anche di peggio, se io gusterò pane o qualsiasi altra cosa prima del tramonto del sole».
Then all the people came and urged David to eat something while it was still day, but David took an oath, saying, “May God punish me, and ever so severely, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun sets!”
36 Tutto il popolo notò la cosa e la trovò giusta; quanto fece il re ebbe l'approvazione del popolo intero.
All the people took note and were pleased. In fact, everything the king did pleased them.
37 Tutto il popolo, cioè tutto Israele, fu convinto in quel giorno che la morte di Abner figlio di Ner non era stata provocata dal re.
So on that day all the troops and all Israel were convinced that the king had no part in the murder of Abner son of Ner.
38 Disse ancora il re ai suoi ministri: «Sappiate che oggi è caduto un capo, un grande in Israele. Io, oggi, mi sono comportato dolcemente, sebbene gia consacrato re, mentre questi uomini, i figli di Zeruià, sono stati più duri di me. Provveda il Signore a trattare il malvagio secondo la sua malvagità».
Then the king said to his servants, “Do you not realize that a great prince has fallen today in Israel?
And I am weak this day, though anointed as king, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too fierce for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil!”
