2 Cronache 17
1 Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Giòsafat, che si fortificò contro Israele.
And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, —and strengthened himself against Israel;
2 Egli mise guarnigioni militari in tutte le fortezze di Giuda; nominò governatori per le città di Giuda e per le città di Efraim occupate dal padre Asa.
and put forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, —and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had captured.
3 Il Signore fu con Giòsafat, perché egli seguì la primitiva condotta di suo padre e non ricercò i Baal,
And it came to pass, that, Yahweh, was with Jehoshaphat, —because he walked in the first ways of David his father, and sought not unto the Baalim;
4 ma piuttosto ricercò il Dio di suo padre e ne seguì i comandi, senza imitare Israele.
for, unto the God of his father, he sought, and, in his commandments, he walked, —and not according to the doing of Israel.
5 Il Signore consolidò il regno nelle mani di Giòsafat e tutto Giuda gli portava offerte. Egli ebbe ricchezze e gloria in quantità.
Therefore did Yahweh establish the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah gave a present unto Jehoshaphat, —and he came to have riches and honour, in abundance.
6 Il suo cuore divenne forte nel seguire il Signore; eliminò anche le alture e i pali sacri da Giuda.
And his heart was encouraged, in the ways of Yahweh, —and he, yet further, took away the high places and the Sacred Stems, out of Judah.
7 Nell'anno terzo del suo regno mandò i suoi ufficiali Ben-Cail, Abdia, Zaccaria, Netaneèl e Michea a insegnare nelle città di Giuda.
And, in the third year of his reign, he sent to his rulers, even to Ben-hail and to Obadiah and to Zechariah, and to Nethanel, and to Micaiah, —that they were to teach throughout the cities of Judah;
8 Con essi c'erano i leviti Semaia, Natania, Zebadia, Asael, Semiraimot, Giònata, Adonia e Tobia e i sacerdoti Elisama e Ioram.
and, with them, Levites, Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah and Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan, and Adonijah and Tobijah and Tob-adonijah, Levites, —and, with them, Elishama and Jehoram, priests;
9 Insegnarono in Giuda; avevano con sé il libro della legge del Signore e percorsero tutte le città di Giuda, istruendo il popolo.
and they taught throughout Judah, and, with them, was the book of the law of Yahweh, —so they went round throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
10 Il terrore del Signore si diffuse per tutti i regni che circondavano Giuda e così essi non fecero guerra a Giòsafat.
And it came to pass, that, the dread of Yahweh, was upon all the kingdoms of the countries, that were round about Judah, —and they warred not against Jehoshaphat.
11 Da parte dei Filistei si portavano a Giòsafat tributi e argento in dono; anche gli Arabi gli portavano bestiame minuto: settemilasettecento arieti e settemilasettecento capri.
And, from among the Philistines, were they bringing in unto Jehoshaphat a present, and silver as tribute, —even the Arabians, were bringing in unto him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.
12 Giòsafat cresceva sempre in potenza. Egli costruì in Giuda castelli e città di approvvigionamento.
And so it came to pass that, Jehoshaphat, went on waxing surpassingly great, —and he built, throughout Judah, fortresses and cities for store;
13 Disponeva di molta manodopera nelle città di Giuda. In Gerusalemme risiedevano i suoi guerrieri, uomini valorosi.
and, much business, had he, throughout the cities of Judah, —but, the men of war, the heroes of valour, were in Jerusalem.
14 Ecco il loro censimento secondo i casati: per Giuda, capi di migliaia: Adna il capo, e con lui trecentomila uomini valorosi.
And, these, are the numbers of them, by their ancestral house, —To Judah, pertained rulers of thousands, Adnah the chief, and, with him, mighty men of valour, three hundred thousand;
15 Alle sue dipendenze c'era il comandante Giovanni e con lui duecentottantamila uomini.
and, under his direction, was Jehohanan the chief, —and, with him, two hundred and eighty thousand;
16 Alle sue dipendenze c'era Amasia figlio di Zicrì, votato al Signore, e con lui duecentomila uomini valorosi;
and, under his direction, Amasiah son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto Yahweh, —and, with him, two hundred thousand heroes of valour.
17 per Beniamino, Eliada, uomo valoroso, e con lui duecentomila armati di arco e di scudo.
And, out of Benjamin, a hero of valour, Eliada, —and, with him, armed with bow and buckler, two hundred thousand;
18 Alle sue dipendenze c'era Iozabad e con lui centottantamila uomini in assetto di guerra.
and, under his direction, Jehozabad, —and, with him, a hundred and eighty thousand, equipped for war.
19 Tutti costoro erano al servizio del re, oltre quelli che il re aveva stabiliti nelle fortezze in tutto Giuda.
These, were they who were waiting upon the king, —besides those whom the king placed in the fortified cities, throughout all Judah.
