1 In quel tempo si ammalò Abia, figlio di Geroboamo.

At that time, fell sick, Abijah son of Jeroboam.

2 Geroboamo disse alla moglie: «Alzati, cambia vestito perché non si sappia che tu sei la moglie di Geroboamo e và a Silo. Là c'è il profeta Achia, colui che mi disse che avrei regnato su questo popolo.

Then said Jeroboam to his wife—Arise, I pray thee, and feign thyself another, that it be not known, that, thou, art the wife of Jeroboam, —and thou shalt go thy way to Shiloh, lo! there, is Ahijah the prophet, who promised I should be king over this people;

3 Prendi con te dieci pani, focacce e un vaso di miele; và da lui. Egli ti rivelerà che cosa avverrà del ragazzo».

and thou shall take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a bottle of honey, and shalt go unto him, —he, will tell thee what shall befall the young man.

4 La moglie di Geroboamo fece così. Si alzò, andò in Silo ed entrò nella casa di Achia, il quale non poteva vedere, perché i suoi occhi erano offuscati per la vecchiaia.

And the wife of Jeroboam, did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and entered the house of Ahijah, —now, Ahijah, could not see, for his eyes were fixed, by reason of his old age.

5 Il Signore aveva detto ad Achia: «Ecco, la moglie di Geroboamo viene per chiederti un oracolo sul figlio, che è malato; tu le dirai questo e questo. Arriva travestita».

But, Yahweh, had said unto Ahijah—Lo! the wife of Jeroboam, coming to enquire something of thee, concerning her son, for he is sick, thus and so, shalt thou speak unto her, —though, when she cometh in, she feign to be a stranger-woman.

6 Appena Achia sentì il rumore dei piedi di lei che arrivava alla porta, disse: «Entra, moglie di Geroboamo. Perché ti sei travestita così? Io ho per te cattive notizie.

So it came to pass, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she entered the doorway, that he said—Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam, —wherefore, is it that thou art feigning to be a stranger-woman, seeing that, I, am sent unto thee, with something hard to bear?

7 Su, riferisci a Geroboamo: Dice il Signore, Dio di Israele: Io ti ho innalzato dalla turba del popolo costituendoti capo del popolo di Israele,

Go, say to Jeroboam—Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the midst of the people, —and gave thee to be leader over my people Israel;

8 ho strappato il regno dalla casa di Davide e l'ho consegnato a te. Ma tu non ti sei comportato come il mio servo Davide, che osservò i miei comandi e mi seguì con tutto il cuore, facendo solo quanto è giusto davanti ai miei occhi,

and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to thee, —and yet thou hast not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me, with all his heart, to do only that which was right in mine eyes;

9 anzi hai agito peggio di tutti i tuoi predecessori e sei andato a fabbricarti altri dei e immagini fuse per provocarmi, mentre hai gettato me dietro alle tue spalle.

but hast made wicked thy doings beyond any who were before thee, —and hast gone and made thee ether gods, even molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast, me, behind thy back,

10 Per questo, ecco, manderò la sventura sulla casa di Geroboamo, distruggerò nella casa di Geroboamo ogni maschio, schiavo o libero in Israele, e spazzerò la casa di Geroboamo come si spazza lo sterco fino alla sua totale scomparsa.

therefore, behold me! bringing misfortune against the house of Jeroboam, and I will cut off the meanest pertaining to Jeroboam, whether shut up or left at large, in Israel, —and will consume after the house of Jeroboam, as one consumeth dung, till it be all gone:

11 I cani divoreranno quanti della casa di Geroboamo moriranno in città; quelli morti in campagna li divoreranno gli uccelli dell'aria, perché il Signore ha parlato.

Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city, shall, the dogs, eat, and, him that dieth in the field, shall, the birds of heaven, eat, —For, Yahweh, hath spoken.

12 Ma tu alzati, torna a casa; quando i tuoi piedi raggiungeranno la città, il bambino morirà.

Thou, therefore, arise, go to thine own house, —as thy feet are entering the city, the young man shall die.

13 Ne faranno il lamento tutti gli Israeliti e lo seppelliranno, perché soltanto costui della famiglia di Geroboamo entrerà in un sepolcro, perché in lui solo si è trovato qualcosa di buono da parte del Signore Dio di Israele nella famiglia di Geroboamo.

Then shall all Israel lament for him, and bury him, for, this one, pertaining to Jeroboam, shall reach a burying-place, —because there hath been found in him something good toward Yahweh, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

14 Il Signore stabilirà su Israele un suo re, che distruggerà la famiglia di Geroboamo.

Therefore will Yahweh raise up for himself a king over Israel, who will cut off the house of Jeroboam, this day, but why, even now?

15 Inoltre il Signore percuoterà Israele, il cui agitarsi sarà simile all'agitarsi di una canna sull'acqua. Eliminerà Israele da questo ottimo paese da lui dato ai loro padri e li disperderà oltre il fiume perché si sono eretti i loro pali sacri, provocando così il Signore.

Therefore will Yahweh smite Israel, as a reed shaketh in water, and will root out Israel, from off this goodly soil, which he gave unto their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River (Euphrates), —because they have made their Sacred Stems, provoking Yahweh to anger:

16 Il Signore abbandonerà Israele a causa dei peccati di Geroboamo, commessi da lui e fatti commettere a Israele».

That he may deliver up Israel, —on account of the sin of Jeroboam, which he committed, and which he caused, Israel, to commit.

17 La moglie di Geroboamo si alzò e se ne andò a Tirza. Proprio mentre essa entrava nella soglia di casa, il giovinetto morì.

Then arose the wife of Jeroboam, and went her way and entered Tirzah, —as, she, was coming into the entrance hall, the young man died.

18 Lo seppellirono e tutto Israele ne fece il lamento, secondo la parola del Signore comunicata per mezzo del suo servo, il profeta Achia.

And, when they buried him, all Israel lamented him, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake through his servant Ahijah the prophet.

19 Le altre gesta di Geroboamo, le sue guerre e il suo regno, sono descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Israele.

Now, the rest of the story of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold them! written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

20 La durata del regno di Geroboamo fu di ventidue anni; egli si addormentò con i suoi padri e gli succedette nel regno Nadàb suo figlio.

And, the days which Jeroboam reigned, were twenty-two years, —and he slept with his fathers, and, Nadab his son, reigned, in his stead.

21 Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, regnò in Giuda. Aveva quarantun anni quando divenne re; regnò diciassette anni in Gerusalemme, città scelta dal Signore fra tutte le tribù di Israele per collocarvi il suo nome. Sua madre, ammonita, si chiamava Naama.

And, Rehoboam, son of Solomon, reigned in Judah, —forty-one years old, was Rehoboam when he began to reign, and seventeen years, reigned he in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen to put his Name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and, his mother’s name, was Naamah, the Ammonitess.

22 Giuda fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore; essi provocarono il Signore a gelosia più di quanto non l'avessero fatto tutti i loro padri, con i loro peccati.

And Judah did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, —and provoked him to jealousy, above all that their fathers had done, with their sins which they committed.

23 Anch'essi si costruirono alture, stele e pali sacri su ogni alto colle e sotto ogni albero verde.

And, they also, built for themselves high places and pillars, and Sacred Stems, —upon every high hill, and under every green tree.

24 Inoltre nel paese c'erano prostituti sacri, i quali rinnovarono tutti gli abomini dei popoli che il Signore aveva scacciati davanti agli Israeliti.

Moreover also, there were, male devotees, in the land, —they did according to all the abominable practices of the nations, which Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.

25 Nell'anno quinto del re Roboamo, il re di Egitto, Sisach, assalì Gerusalemme.

And it came to pass, in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem;

26 Costui depredò i tesori del tempio e vuotò la reggia dei suoi tesori. Prese anche gli scudi d'oro fatti da Salomone.

and took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole, took he away, —and took away all the bucklers of gold, which, Solomon, had made.

27 Roboamo li sostituì con scudi di bronzo, che affidò agli ufficiali delle guardie addette alle porte della reggia.

So King Rehoboam made, in their stead, bucklers of bronze, —and committed them unto the hand of the captains of the runners, who kept guard at the entrance of the house of the king.

28 Ogni volta che il re andava nel tempio, le guardie li prendevano, poi li riportavano nella sala delle guardie.

And so it was, whensoever the king went into the house of Yahweh, the runners bare them, and then brought them back into the chamber of the runners.

29 Le altre gesta di Roboamo, tutte le sue azioni, sono descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda.

Now, the rest of the story of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

30 Ci fu guerra continua fra Roboamo e Geroboamo.

And there was, war, between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, continually.

31 Roboamo si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di Davide. Al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Abiam.

So then Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and, the name of his mother, was Naamah the Ammonitess, —and, Abijah his son, reigned, in his stead.
