Amsal 4
1 Anakku, dengarkanlah nasihat ayahmu. Perhatikanlah agar engkau beroleh pengertian
Heare, O ye children, the instruction of a father, and giue eare to learne vnderstanding.
2 sebab yang aku ajarkan adalah baik. Janganlah meninggalkan bimbinganku.
For I doe giue you a good doctrine: therefore forsake yee not my lawe.
3 Semasa kecil, waktu aku masih tinggal bersama ayah ibuku sebagai anak tunggal mereka,
For I was my fathers sonne, tender and deare in the sight of my mother,
4 ayahku mengajarkan, “Anakku, bila engkau setia mengikuti pengajaran dan petunjuk-petunjukku, engkau akan hidup bahagia.
When he taught me, and sayde vnto me, Let thine heart holde fast my woordes: keepe my commandements, and thou shalt liue.
5 Sambutlah Hikmat menjadi guru kehidupanmu. Mintalah pengertian darinya. Janganlah lupa dan jangan berpaling dari pengajaranku.
Get wisedom: get vnderstading: forget not, neither decline from the woordes of my mouth.
6 Sang Hikmat itu akan menjagamu bila engkau mengasihi dia dan berpegang padanya.
Forsake her not, and shee shall keepe thee: loue her and shee shall preserue thee.
7 Sang Hikmat adalah guru kehidupan yang terutama. Mintalah darinya pengertian. Ya, carilah kebijaksanaan semahal apa pun harganya.
Wisedome is the beginning: get wisedome therefore: and aboue all thy possession get vnderstanding.
8 Bila engkau menghargai Sang Hikmat, dia akan menjadikanmu terhormat. Bila engkau menjunjungnya, dia akan memberimu nama baik.
Exalt her, and she shall exalt thee: she shall bring thee to honour, if thou embrace her.
9 Hikmat itu bagai mahkota yang indah megah pada kepalamu, yang menjadikan engkau seorang yang dihormati.”
She shall giue a comely ornamet vnto thine head, yea, she shall giue thee a crowne of glorie.
10 Hai anakku, dengarkan dan terimalah pengajaranku supaya panjanglah umurmu.
Heare, my sonne, and receiue my wordes, and the yeeres of thy life shalbe many.
11 Kebijaksanaan yang aku ajarkan adalah jalan yang lurus.
I haue taught thee in ye way of wisedom, and led thee in the pathes of righteousnesse.
12 Saat melangkah, engkau tak akan mendapat masalah, dan saat berlari, engkau tak akan tersandung jatuh.
Whe thou goest, thy gate shall not be strait, and when thou runnest, thou shalt not fall.
13 Berpeganglah pada didikanku dan jangan meninggalkannya. Taatilah, sebab itulah yang membuat hidupmu aman.
Take holde of instruction, and leaue not: keepe her, for shee is thy life.
14 Jangan mengikuti perbuatan orang jahat, apalagi menjadi seperti mereka.
Enter not into the way of the wicked, and walke not in the way of euill men.
15 Hindarilah jalan orang jahat. Jangan sekali-kali mendekatinya. Berpalinglah dari jalan mereka dan ambillah jalan yang lurus.
Auoide it, and goe not by it: turne from it, and passe by.
16 Orang-orang seperti itu tidak bisa tidur tenang sebelum berbuat jahat. Mereka baru merasakan kantuk kalau berhasil menjatuhkan orang.
For they can not sleepe, except they haue done euill, and their sleepe departeth except they cause some to fall.
17 Bagi mereka, berbuat jahat memuaskan seperti makanan lezat, dan melakukan kekerasan terasa manis seperti minuman anggur.
For they eate the breade of wickednesse, and drinke the wine of violence.
18 Tidaklah demikian dengan orang benar. Jalan hidup orang benar bagaikan cerahnya pagi, yang semakin terang hingga siang hari.
But the way of the righteous shineth as the light, that shineth more and more vnto the perfite day.
19 Tetapi jalan hidup orang jahat teramat gelap. Kaki mereka tersandung karena mereka tak dapat melihat.
The way of the wicked is as the darkenes: they knowe not wherein they shall fall.
20 Anakku, perhatikanlah nasihat-nasihatku dan dengarkanlah ajaranku.
My sonne, hearken vnto my wordes, incline thine eare vnto my sayings.
21 Simpanlah nasihatku di dalam hatimu dan jadikanlah itu sebagai pengukur dalam tiap langkah hidupmu.
Let them not depart from thine eyes, but keepe them in the middes of thine heart.
22 Karena seluruh nasihat dan pengajaranku memberi hidup bahagia bagi yang menyelami artinya dan mendatangkan kesegaran bagi tubuh.
For they are life vnto those that find them, and health vnto all their flesh.
23 Jagalah hatimu dengan waspada, karena hati menentukan segala pilihan hidupmu.
Keepe thine heart with all diligence: for thereout commeth life.
24 Jangan mengucapkan kata-kata dusta. Buanglah ucapan yang tak benar.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and put wicked lippes farre from thee.
25 Tetaplah memandang tujuan hidupmu supaya engkau tidak menyimpang.
Let thine eyes beholde the right, and let thine eyelids direct thy way before thee.
26 Pertimbangkan baik-baik ke mana engkau melangkah maka engkau dapat berjalan dengan tenang.
Ponder the path of thy feete, and let all thy waies be ordred aright.
27 Jagalah dirimu supaya tetap mengikuti jalan yang benar. Jangan pernah menyimpang ke jalan yang jahat.
Turne not to the right hande, nor to the left, but remooue thy foote from euill.
