Ester 2
1 Beberapa waktu kemudian, ketika Raja Ahasweros sudah tidak marah lagi, dia teringat kepada kelakuan Wasti dan tentang keputusannya tentang dia.
After these things, when the wrath of King Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
2 Maka salah seorang dari pelayan pribadinya berkata, “Sebaiknya Tuanku Raja mengutus beberapa petugas kerajaan pergi ke seluruh wilayah kerajaan, untuk mendapatkan gadis-gadis cantik bagi Tuanku Raja.
Then said the young men of the king, who waited upon him, —Let them seek out for the king young virgins, of pleasing appearance;
3 Sesudah mereka mengumpulkan beberapa gadis, hendaklah Tuanku Raja menunjuk beberapa petugas di setiap provinsi untuk membawa mereka ke sini ke asrama para istri raja di istana. Maka Hegai— pelayan khusus Raja, yang bertugas sebagai kepala asrama para istri raja akan bertanggung jawab atas perawatan kecantikan para gadis itu.
and let the king appoint officers throughout all the provinces of his kingdom, and let them gather together every young virgin of pleasing appearance unto Shusan the palace, unto the house of the women, into the custody of Hegai eunuch of the king, keeper of the women, and let there be given the things needed for their purification;
4 Kemudian gadis yang paling memikat hati Tuanku Raja dapat menjadi pengganti Wasti.” Raja senang dengan usulan itu, lalu dia berbuat demikian.
and, the maiden that is pleasing in the eyes of the king, let her be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing seemed good in the eyes of the king, and he did so.
5 Pada waktu itu ada orang Yahudi bernama Mordekai yang tinggal di ibukota Susan dan di bagian kota yang dilingkari oleh benteng. Dia adalah anak Yair. Dan Yair adalah anak Simei, dan Simei adalah anak Kis dari suku Benyamin.
A certain Jew, there was, in Shusan the palace, —whose, name, was Mordecai, son of Jair, son of Shimei, son of Kish, a man of Benjamin;
6 Bertahun-tahun sebelum cerita ini, Raja Nebukadnezar sudah menawan dan membawa keluarga Mordekai dari Yerusalem ke Babel— bersamaan dengan Raja Yoyakin dari suku Yehuda dan para tawanan lainnya.
who had been exiled from Jerusalem, with the exiles who were carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, —whom, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, exiled.
7 Mordekai memiliki saudara sepupu bernama Hadasa yang juga dipanggil Ester. Wajahnya cantik dan tubuhnya menarik hati. Setelah kedua orangtuanya meninggal, Mordekai merawat Ester seperti anaknya sendiri.
And it came to pass, that he was bringing up Hadassah, the same, was Esther, his uncle’s daughter, for she had neither father nor mother, —and, the maiden, was of beautiful form and pleasing appearance, and when her father and mother died, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.
8 Setelah raja memberi perintah, maka para petugas dari kerajaan pergi mencari beberapa gadis cantik di seluruh provinsi. Maka petugas yang sudah ditunjuk dari setiap provinsi tersebut membawa para gadis itu ke asrama para istri raja— termasuk Ester. Adapun raja sudah menempatkan Hegai sebagai penanggung jawab atas mereka.
So it came to pass, when the king’s command and decree was heard, and there had been gathered together many maidens unto Shusan the palace, unto the custody of Hegai, that Esther was taken into the house of the king, unto the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women;
9 Karena Hegai sangat senang dengan Ester, maka dia mengutamakan Ester. Dengan segera dia mengatur semua kebutuhan Ester dari makanan hingga perawatan kecantikan. Dia memerintahkan tujuh gadis pelayan istana raja untuk mengurus Ester dan menempatkan mereka di kamar-kamar terbaik di asrama.
and the maiden was pleasing in his eyes, and she received lovingkindness before him, and he hastened to give her, the things needed for her purification, and things apportioned her, and to give her, seven select maidens, out of the house of the king, —and he removed her and her maidens to the best place in the house of the women.
10 Ester tidak memberitahukan siapa pun bahwa dia adalah seorang Yahudi, karena Mordekai pernah mengatakan kepadanya untuk tidak memberitahu siapa pun.
Esther had not told of her people, nor of her kindred, —for, Mordecai, had laid charge upon her, that she should not tell.
11 Setiap hari Mordekai berjalan di depan taman yang terdekat asrama para istri raja untuk mencari tahu apa yang terjadi terhadap Ester, dan sering bertanya kepada orang-orang yang keluar masuk dari pintu taman itu tentang dia.
And, throughout every day, Mordecai, used to walk to and fro, before the court of the house of the women, —to get to know the welfare of Esther, and what would be done with her.
12 Sesuai peraturan, para gadis itu harus menjalani perawatan kecantikan selama satu tahun sebelum dibawa kepada raja. Enam bulan pertama, mereka harus menjalani perawatan khusus minyak zaitun dengan campuran minyak mur yang digosok pada tubuh mereka setiap hari, dan enam bulan berikutnya mereka menjalani perawatan dengan berbagai ramuan rempah-rempah dan wangi-wangian yang dioles pada tubuh mereka.
Now, when the turn of each maiden came, to go in unto King Ahasuerus, after it had been done to her according to the law of the women for twelve months, for, so, were filled the days of their purification, —six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes, and with things for the purification of the women,
13 Ketika salah seorang gadis ini dipanggil untuk menghadap raja, gadis itu diperbolehkan untuk mengenakan pakaian dan perhiasan sesuai pilihannya dari asrama.
then, indeed, the maiden came in unto the king, —whatsoever she might mention, was given her, to go with her, out of the house of the women up to the house of the king:
14 Pada malam hari, seorang gadis akan dibawa ke ruangan pribadi raja. Keesokan harinya, dia akan dibawa ke bagian kedua dalam asrama untuk para wanita yang sudah bersetubuh dengan raja. Seorang pelayan khusus yang bernama Sasgas bertanggung jawab atas bagian asrama itu. Bila raja menginginkan seorang wanita untuk kembali lagi, raja akan menyampaikan hal itu kepada Sasgas dengan menyebut nama wanita tersebut.
in the evening, she went in, and, in the morning, she returned—unto the second house of the women, unto the custody of Shaashgaz the king’s eunuch, who kept the concubines, —she went not in again unto the king, except the king delighted in her, and she were called by name.
15 Pada tahun ketujuh dalam masa pemerintahan Raja Ahasweros, tibalah giliran Ester anak Abihail— paman Mordekai, untuk menghadap raja. Ester diangkat oleh Mordekai sebagai anak. Para pelayan membawa Ester kepada raja pada bulan Tebet. Ester mengenakan pakaian dan perhiasan sesuai saran Hegai, kepala asrama tersebut. Setiap orang yang melihat Ester menyukainya.
But, when the turn came for Esther daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai—who had taken her as his own daughter—to go in unto the king, she requested nothing, save what Hegai the king’s eunuch who kept the women might direct, —but so it was, that Esther obtained favour in the eyes of all who beheld her.
So then Esther was taken unto King Ahasuerus, into his royal house, in the tenth month, the same, was the month Tebeth, —in the seventh year of his reign.
17 Raja lebih menyukai Ester daripada para wanita lain yang mereka bawa kepadanya. Dia sangat mencintai Ester dan memakaikan mahkota di kepalanya yang pernah dipakai oleh Wasti. Raja mengumumkan bahwa Ester akan menjadi ratu menggantikan Wasti.
And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained favour and lovingkindness before him, above all the virgins, —so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen, instead of Vashti.
18 Raja mengadakan pesta besar untuk Ester dan mengundang para pembesar dan kaum bangsawan. Raja dengan murah hati memberi hadiah kepada orang-orang. Dia menetapkan masa perayaan tersebut sebagai hari raya di seluruh wilayah kekuasaannya.
Then the king made a great banquet, for all his rulers and his servants, the banquet of Esther, —and, a remission, for all the provinces, made he, and gave a present, according to the bounty of a king.
19 Waktu pun berlalu, dan semua gadis sudah berpindah ke bagian kedua dalam asrama para istri raja. Pada saat itu, Mordekai sudah diangkat menjadi pejabat istana raja. Karena itu, dia sering bertugas di pintu gerbang istana raja.
Now, when virgins were gathered together second time, then, Mordecai, was sitting in the gate of the king.
20 Ester belum memberitahukan bahwa dia seorang Yahudi karena dia patuh kepada Mordekai seperti saat Mordekai masih mengasuhnya.
Esther had not told of her kindred, nor her people, as, Mordecai, had laid charge upon her, —and, the command of Mordecai, Esther performed, like as when she was being brought up with him.
21 Pada suatu hari ketika Mordekai sedang melakukan pekerjaannya di istana, dua pengawal raja sedang berada di sana. Keduanya bernama Bigtana dan Teres yang bertugas sebagai pengawal di luar ruangan pribadi raja. Mereka menyimpan dendam terhadap raja sehingga berencana untuk membunuhnya.
In those days, when, Mordecai, was sitting in the gate of the king, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the eunuchs of the king who guarded the threshold, were wroth, and sought to thrust a hand upon King Ahasuerus;
22 Rencana mereka diketahui oleh Mordekai, lalu dia melaporkannya kepada Ratu Ester. Lalu Ratu Ester memberitahukan kepada Raja bahwa Mordekai sudah mendengar rencana pembunuhan itu.
but the thing became known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen, —and Esther told it unto the king, in the name of Mordecai.
23 Raja menyelidiki apa yang dilaporkan Mordekai dan ternyata benar. Jadi raja memerintahkan kedua orang itu dihukum gantung. Peristiwa tersebut dicatat dalam buku sejarah di masa pemerintahan Raja Ahasweros.
And, when the thing was searched into and found [true], then were they two hanged upon the gallows, and it was written, in the book of the chronicles, before the king.
