2 Samuel 23
1 Inilah pesan terakhir dari Daud, pengarang lagu pujian yang indah, yang dipilih oleh Allah Yakub dan diangkat dari tempat rendah menjadi raja Israel:
Now these are the last words of David. David the son of Jesse says, the man who was raised on high says, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the sweet psalmist of Israel:
2 “Roh TUHAN sudah berbicara melalui aku! Kata-kata yang aku ucapkan berasal dari-Nya.
“The LORD’s Spirit spoke by me. His word was on my tongue.
3 Allah Israel bagaikan tempat berlindung di gunung batu. Dialah yang berkata kepadaku, ‘Bila seorang raja memerintah dengan adil berdasarkan takut dan hormat kepada-Ku
The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, ‘One who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,
4 dia akan menjadi berkat bagi rakyatnya, bagaikan cahaya matahari terbit di pagi yang cerah, dan seperti sinar matahari sehabis hujan yang membuat rumput berkilauan.’
shall be as the light of the morning when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, when the tender grass springs out of the earth, through clear shining after rain.’
5 “Demikianlah Allah memandang pemerintahan yang akan berlangsung melalui keturunanku. Untuk itulah Dia membuat perjanjian abadi denganku, perjanjian yang sudah ditetapkan dan tidak akan berubah. Dan itulah sebabnya Dia selalu menjamin keselamatanku dan mengabulkan semua yang aku inginkan.
Is not my house so with God? Yet he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure, for it is all my salvation and all my desire. Will not he make it grow?
6 Tetapi orang-orang jahat bagaikan semak berduri. Agar orang lain tak terkena durinya, semak itu dikumpulkan bukan dengan tangan, melainkan dengan besi atau kayu, lalu dibakar habis. Demikianlah orang-orang jahat akan dikumpulkan untuk dimusnahkan!”
But all the ungodly will be as thorns to be thrust away, because they cannot be taken with the hand.
The man who touches them must be armed with iron and the staff of a spear. They will be utterly burned with fire in their place.”
8 Inilah nama-nama tentara Daud yang mendapat kehormatan tertinggi: Ada tiga perwira utama. Yang pertama bernama Yoseb Basebet, orang Takmoni. Dia menjadi pimpinan dalam kelompok tiga perwira itu. Yoseb sangat mahir menggunakan tombak. Dengan tombaknya, dia pernah membunuh delapan ratus orang dalam satu pertempuran.
These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb Basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chief of the captains; he was called Adino the Eznite, who killed eight hundred at one time.
9 Yang kedua bernama Eleasar anak Dodo, cucu Ahohi. Dia menjadi salah satu perwira utama karena suatu kali, ketika pasukan Israel bertempur melawan orang Filistin, semua tentara mundur. Hanya Eleasar yang tetap mendampingi Daud menghadapi mereka.
After him was Eleazar the son of Dodai the son of an Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David when they defied the Philistines who were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel had gone away.
10 Eleasar terus bertahan dan membunuh begitu banyak musuh sampai tangannya kelelahan dan otot jari-jarinya kaku, sehingga dia tidak bisa melepaskan pedangnya. Melalui Eleasar, TUHAN memberikan kemenangan besar hari itu. Ketika pasukan Israel yang sudah mundur kembali ke tempat itu, mereka tinggal menjarah barang-barang milik tentara Filistin yang sudah mati.
He arose and struck the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand froze to the sword; and the LORD worked a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to take plunder.
11 Yang ketiga bernama Syama anak Age, dari daerah Harari. Suatu hari pasukan Filistin menyerang pasukan Israel di daerah Lehi. Pertempuran itu terjadi di suatu ladang yang penuh dengan tanaman kacang merah. Orang Israel melarikan diri,
After him was Shammah the son of Agee a Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a plot of ground full of lentils; and the people fled from the Philistines.
12 tetapi Syama tetap berdiri di tengah ladang itu untuk mempertahankannya. Dia sendiri yang mengalahkan orang Filistin, dan melalui dia TUHAN memberikan kemenangan besar bagi Israel.
But he stood in the middle of the plot and defended it, and killed the Philistines; and the LORD worked a great victory.
13 Ketiga perwira utama tadi juga termasuk dalam kelompok tiga puluh perwira unggulan. Pada musim panen, orang Filistin hendak merampas hasil panen Israel. Sekelompok pasukan Filistin sudah berkemah di lembah Refaim, dan kelompok lainnya menduduki kota Betlehem. Daud dan sebagian pasukannya berlindung di Gua Adulam. Suatu hari, ketiga perwira itu datang menemui Daud.
Three of the thirty chief men went down, and came to David in the harvest time to the cave of Adullam; and the troop of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
David was then in the stronghold; and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.
15 Berkatalah Daud, “Ah, saya ingin sekali minum air dari sumur di dekat pintu gerbang Betlehem!”
David said longingly, “Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”
16 Mendengar itu, tiga perwira tadi menerobos baris penjagaan Filistin sampai melewati pos di Betlehem. Lalu mereka menimba air dari sumur itu dan membawanya kepada Daud. Akan tetapi, Daud tidak jadi meminumnya. Dia menumpahkan air itu sebagai persembahan kepada TUHAN
The three mighty men broke through the army of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and took it and brought it to David; but he would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD.
17 sambil berkata, “Ya TUHAN, aku tidak akan meminum air ini, karena nilainya seharga darah ketiga orang yang sudah mempertaruhkan nyawa mereka untuk mengambilnya.” Jadi Daud tidak mau minum. Itulah salah satu tindakan berani yang dilakukan oleh tiga perwira utama tadi.
He said, “Be it far from me, LORD, that I should do this! Is not this the blood of the men who risked their lives to go?” Therefore he would not drink it. The three mighty men did these things.
18 Abisai, yaitu adik Yoab, adalah komandan tiga puluh perwira unggulan. Dia pernah membunuh tiga ratus tentara musuh dengan tombaknya. Karena itu dia menjadi terkenal sama seperti tiga perwira utama.
Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the three. He lifted up his spear against three hundred and killed them, and had a name among the three.
19 Walaupun Abisai sangat dihormati dan menjadi komandan mereka, dia tidak masuk dalam ketiga perwira utama.
Was not he most honorable of the three? Therefore he was made their captain. However he was not included as one of the three.
20 Benaya anak Yoyada dari kota Kabsel adalah pemberani yang melakukan banyak perbuatan hebat. Dia pernah membunuh dua orang perkasa dari Moab. Juga pada suatu hari yang bersalju, dia memburu seekor singa sampai masuk ke dalam sebuah lubang besar di tanah untuk membunuh singa itu.
Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, killed the two sons of Ariel of Moab. He also went down and killed a lion in the middle of a pit in a time of snow.
21 Benaya juga mengalahkan seorang Mesir yang tinggi besar. Orang Mesir itu memegang sebuah tombak, sementara Benaya menghadapinya dengan bersenjatakan kayu pemukul. Dia merebut tombak dari tangan orang Mesir itu lalu membunuh dia dengan tombaknya sendiri.
He killed a huge Egyptian, and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear.
22 Tindakan-tindakan berani itu membuat Benaya terkenal seperti tiga perwira utama.
Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did these things, and had a name among the three mighty men.
23 Dia sangat dihormati di antara ketiga puluh perwira unggulan, tetapi tidak termasuk dalam tiga perwira utama. Daud mengangkat dia menjadi komandan pasukan pengawalnya.
He was more honorable than the thirty, but he did not attain to the three. David set him over his guard.
24 Inilah nama-nama tiga puluh perwira unggulan itu: Asael, adik kedua Yoab; Elhanan anak Dodo, dari kota Betlehem;
Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty: Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
25 Sama dan Elika, dari kota Harod;
Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,
26 Helez dari kota Palti; Ira anak Ikes, dari kota Tekoa;
Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,
27 Abiezer, dari kota Anatot; Mebunai anak Husa;
Abiezer the Anathothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,
28 Zalmon anak Ahohi; Maharai, dari kota Netofa;
Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,
29 Heled anak Bana, dari Netofa; Itai anak Ribai, dari kota Gibea di wilayah Benyamin;
Heleb the son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,
30 Benaya, dari kota Piraton; Hidai, dari lembah Gaas;
Benaiah a Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash.
31 Abialbon, dari daerah Arbat; Asmawet, dari desa Bahurim;
Abialbon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,
32 Elyaba, dari kota Salbon; dua anak Yasin, Yonatan dan
Eliahba the Shaalbonite, the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,
33 Syama, dari kota Harari; Ahiam anak Sarar, dari Harari;
Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Ararite,
34 Elifelet anak Ahasbai, dari kota Maaka; Eliam anak Ahitofel, dari kota Gilo;
Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maacathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,
35 Hezrai, dari kota Karmel; Perai, dari kota Arbi;
Hezro the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,
36 Igal anak Natan, dari kota Zoba, Bani, dari suku Gad;
Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite,
37 Zelek, orang dari bangsa Amon; Naharai, dari kota Beerot, salah satu pembawa senjata Yoab;
Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, armor bearers to Joab the son of Zeruiah,
38 Ira dan Gareb, dari kota Yetri;
Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,
39 dan Uria, orang dari bangsa Het. Semuanya berjumlah tiga puluh tujuh orang.
and Uriah the Hittite: thirty-seven in all.
