1 Daud berunding dengan pemimpin-pemimpin pasukan seribu dan pasukan seratus dan dengan semua pemuka.

Then David took counsel with the tribunes, and the centurions, and all the leaders.

2 Berkatalah Daud kepada seluruh jemaah Israel: "Jika kamu anggap baik dan jika diperkenankan TUHAN, Allah kita, baiklah kita menyuruh orang kepada saudara-saudara kita yang masih tinggal di daerah-daerah orang Israel, dan di samping itu kepada para imam dan orang-orang Lewi yang ada di kota-kota yang dikelilingi tanah penggembalaan mereka, supaya mereka berkumpul kepada kita.

And he said to the entire assembly of Israel: “If it pleases you, and if the words that I speak come from the Lord our God, let us send to the remainder of our brothers, in all the regions of Israel, and to the priests and Levites who live in the suburbs of the cities, so that they may gather to us.

3 Dan baiklah kita memindahkan tabut Allah kita ke tempat kita, sebab pada zaman Saul kita tidak mengindahkannya."

And let us bring back the ark of our God to us. For we did not seek it during the days of Saul.”

4 Maka seluruh jemaah itu berkata, bahwa mereka akan berbuat demikian, sebab usul itu dianggap baik oleh segenap bangsa itu.

And the entire multitude responded that it should be done. For the word had pleased all the people.

5 Lalu Daud mengumpulkan semua orang Israel dari sungai Sikhor di Mesir sampai ke jalan yang menuju Hamat, untuk menjemput tabut Allah dari Kiryat-Yearim.

Therefore, David gathered all of Israel, from Shihor of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, so as to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

6 Lalu Daud dan segenap orang Israel berangkat ke Baala, ke Kiryat-Yearim, yang termasuk wilayah Yehuda, untuk mengangkut dari sana tabut Allah, yang disebut dengan nama TUHAN yang bertakhta di atas kerubim.

And David ascended with all the men of Israel to the hill of Kiriath-jearim, which is in Judah, so that he might bring from there the ark of the Lord God, sitting upon the Cherubim, where his name is invoked.

7 Mereka menaikkan tabut Allah itu ke dalam kereta yang baru dari rumah Abinadab, sedang Uza dan Ahyo mengantarkan kereta itu.

And they placed the ark of God upon a new cart from the house of Abinadab. Then Uzzah and his brother drove the cart.

8 Daud dan seluruh orang Israel menari-nari di hadapan Allah dengan sekuat tenaga, diiringi nyanyian, kecapi, gambus, rebana, ceracap dan nafiri.

Now David and all of Israel were playing before God, with all of their ability, in songs, and with harps, and psalteries, and timbrels, and cymbals, and trumpets.

9 Ketika mereka sampai ke tempat pengirikan Kidon, maka Uza mengulurkan tangannya memegang tabut itu, karena lembu-lembu itu tergelincir.

And when they had arrived at the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached out his hand, so that he might support the ark. For indeed, the ox being wanton had caused it to incline a little.

10 Maka bangkitlah murka TUHAN terhadap Uza, lalu Ia membunuh dia oleh karena Uza telah mengulurkan tangannya kepada tabut itu; ia mati di sana di hadapan Allah.

And so the Lord became angry against Uzzah. And he struck him down because he had touched the ark. And he died there before the Lord.

11 Daud menjadi marah, karena TUHAN telah menyambar Uza demikian hebatnya; maka tempat itu disebut orang Peres-Uza sampai sekarang.

And David was greatly saddened because the Lord had divided Uzzah. And he called that place ‘the Division of Uzzah,’ even to the present day.

12 Pada waktu itu Daud menjadi takut kepada Allah, lalu katanya: "Bagaimanakah aku dapat membawa tabut Allah itu ke tempatku?"

And then he feared God, at that time, saying: “How will I be able to bring in the ark of God to myself?”

13 Sebab itu Daud tidak mau memindahkan tabut itu ke tempatnya, ke kota Daud, tetapi Daud menyimpang dan membawanya ke rumah Obed-Edom, orang Gat itu.

And for this reason, he did not bring it to himself, that is, into the City of David. Instead, he turned aside to the house of Obededom, the Gittite.

14 Tiga bulan lamanya tabut Allah itu tinggal pada keluarga Obed-Edom di rumahnya dan TUHAN memberkati keluarga Obed-Edom dan segala yang dipunyainya.

Therefore, the ark of God dwelt in the house of Obededom for three months. And the Lord blessed his house and all that he had.
