Amsal 8
1 Dengar! Kebijaksanaan berseru-seru, hikmat mengangkat suara.
Doth not wisdom cry aloud, and prudence put forth her voice?
2 Ia berdiri di bukit-bukit di sisi jalan, dan di persimpangan-persimpangan.
Standing in the top of the highest places by the way, in the midst of the paths.
3 Di pintu gerbang, di jalan masuk ke kota, di situlah terdengar suaranya.
Beside the gates of the city, in the very doors she speaketh, saying:
4 "Hai, umat manusia, kepadamu aku berseru; setiap insan di bumi, perhatikanlah himbauanku!
O ye men, to you I call, and my voice is to the sons of men.
5 Kamu yang belum berpengalaman, belajarlah mempunyai pikiran yang tajam; kamu yang bebal, belajarlah menjadi insaf.
O little ones, understand subtilty, and ye unwise, take notice.
6 Perhatikanlah perkataan-perkataanku, karena semuanya tepat dan bermutu.
Hear, for I will speak of great things: and my lips shall be opened to preach right things.
7 Yang kukatakan, betul semua, sebab aku benci kepada dusta.
My mouth shall meditate truth, and my lips shall hate wickedness.
8 Perkataan-perkataanku jujur semua, tak satu pun yang berbelit atau salah.
All my words are just, there is nothing wicked nor perverse in them.
9 Bagi orang cerdas, perkataanku benar, bagi orang yang arif, perkataanku tepat.
They are right to them that understand, and just to them that find knowledge.
10 Hargailah nasihatku melebihi perak asli, pentingkanlah pengetahuan melebihi emas murni.
Receive my instruction, and not money: choose knowledge rather than gold.
11 Akulah hikmat, lebih berharga dari berlian; tak dapat dibandingkan dengan apa pun yang kauidamkan.
For wisdom is better than all the most precious things: and whatsoever may be desired cannot be compared to it.
12 Akulah hikmat; padaku ada pengertian, kebijaksanaan dan pengetahuan.
I wisdom dwell in counsel, and am present in learned thoughts.
13 Menghormati TUHAN berarti membenci kejahatan; aku tidak menyukai kesombongan dan keangkuhan. Aku benci tingkah laku yang jahat dan kata-kata tipu muslihat.
The fear of the Lord hateth evil: I hate arrogance, and pride, and every wicked way, and a mouth with a double tongue.
14 Akulah yang memberi ilham. Dan aku juga yang mewujudkannya. Aku cerdas dan kuat pula.
Counsel and equity is mine, prudence is mine, strength is mine.
15 Raja-raja kubantu menjalankan pemerintahan, para penguasa kutolong menegakkan keadilan.
By me kings reign, and lawgivers decree just things,
16 Karena jasaku, para pembesar dan para bangsawan memerintah dan menjalankan keadilan.
By me princes rule, and the mighty decree justice.
17 Aku mengasihi mereka yang suka kepadaku; yang mencari aku, akan menemukan aku.
I love them that love me: and they that in the morning early watch for me, shall find me.
18 Padaku tersedia kekayaan juga kehormatan dan kemakmuran.
With me are riches and glory, glorious riches and justice.
19 Yang kaudapat dari aku melebihi emas murni; lebih berharga dari perak asli.
For my fruit is better than gold and the precious stone, and my blossoms than choice silver.
20 Aku mengikuti jalan keadilan, aku melangkah di jalan kejujuran.
I walk in the way of justice, in the midst of the paths of judgment,
21 Orang yang mengasihi aku, kujadikan kaya; kupenuhi rumahnya dengan harta benda.
That I may enrich them that love me, and may fill their treasures.
22 Aku diciptakan TUHAN sebagai yang pertama, akulah hasil karya-Nya yang semula pada zaman dahulu kala.
The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his ways, before he made any thing from the beginning.
23 Aku dibentuk sejak permulaan zaman, pada mulanya, sebelum bumi diciptakan.
I was set up from eternity, and of old before the earth was made.
24 Aku lahir sebelum tercipta samudra raya, sebelum muncul sumber-sumber air.
The depths were not as yet, and I was already conceived. neither had the fountains of waters as yet sprung out:
25 Aku lahir sebelum gunung-gunung ditegakkan, sebelum bukit-bukit didirikan,
The mountains with their huge bulk had not as yet been established: before the hills I was brought forth:
26 sebelum TUHAN menciptakan bumi dan padang-padangnya, bahkan sebelum diciptakan-Nya gumpalan tanah yang pertama.
He had not yet made the earth, nor the rivers, nor the poles of the world.
27 Aku menyaksikan ketika langit dihamparkan, dan cakrawala direntangkan di atas lautan,
When he prepared the heavens, I was present: when with a certain law and compass he enclosed the depths:
28 ketika TUHAN menempatkan awan di angkasa, dan membuka sumber-sumber samudra,
When he established the sky above, and poised the fountains of waters:
29 ketika Ia memerintahkan air laut supaya jangan melewati batas-batasnya. Aku pun turut hadir di sana ketika alas bumi diletakkan-Nya.
When he compassed the sea with its bounds, and set a law to the waters that they should not pass their limits: when be balanced the foundations of the earth;
30 Aku berada di samping-Nya sebagai anak kesayangan-Nya, setiap hari akulah kebahagiaan-Nya; selalu aku bermain-main di hadapan-Nya.
I was with him forming all things: and was delighted every day, playing before him at all times;
31 Aku bersenang-senang di atas bumi-Nya, dan merasa bahagia di antara manusia.
Playing in the world: and my delights were to be with the children of men.
32 Karena itu, dengarkanlah aku, hai orang muda! Turutilah petunjukku, maka kau akan bahagia.
Now therefore, ye children, hear me: Blessed are they that keep my ways.
33 Terimalah petuah dan jadilah bijaksana, janganlah engkau meremehkannya.
Hear instruction and be wise, and refuse it not.
34 Bahagialah orang yang mendengarkan aku yang setiap hari duduk menanti di pintu rumahku, dan berjaga-jaga di gerbang kediamanku.
Blessed is the man that heareth me, and that watcheth daily at my gates, and waiteth at the posts of my doors.
35 Siapa mendapat aku, memperoleh kehidupan, kepadanya TUHAN berkenan.
He that shall find me, shall find life, and shall have salvation from the Lord:
36 Siapa tidak mendapat aku, merugikan diri sendiri; orang yang membenciku, mencintai maut."
But he that shall sin against me, shall hurt his own soul. All that hate me love death.
