Amsal 15
1 Dengan jawaban yang ramah, kemarahan menjadi reda; jawaban yang pedas membangkitkan amarah.
A soft answer, turneth away wrath, but a cutting word raiseth anger.
2 Kata-kata orang bijak membuat pengetahuan menarik hati; kata-kata orang bodoh hanya berisi kebodohan.
The tongue of the wise, adorneth knowledge, —but, the mouth of dullards, belcheth out folly.
3 TUHAN melihat semua yang terjadi di segala tempat; Ia memperhatikan semua yang baik dan yang jahat.
In every place, are the eyes of Yahweh, observing the evil and the good.
4 Kata-kata yang baik menambah semangat, kata-kata yang menyakitkan melemahkan hasrat.
Gentleness of the tongue, is a tree of life, but, crookedness therein, a grievous wound in the spirit.
5 Orang bodoh meremehkan nasihat ayahnya, orang bijak mengindahkan teguran.
A foolish [son], spurneth the correction of his father, but, he that heedeth a reproof, sheweth prudence.
6 Di rumah orang baik ada banyak harta; kekayaan orang jahat lenyap oleh bencana.
The household of the righteous man, is a great treasure, but, in the increase of the lawless, is disturbance.
7 Kata-kata orang bijaksana penuh dengan pengetahuan, tapi pikiran orang bodoh tidak demikian.
The lips of the wise, scatter abroad knowledge, but, the heart of dullards, is not right.
8 TUHAN menerima doa orang baik, tapi Ia membenci persembahan orang jahat.
The sacrifice of lawless men, is an abomination to Yahweh, but, the prayer of the upright, is his delight.
9 TUHAN membenci cara hidup orang durhaka, tetapi Ia mengasihi orang yang berusaha melakukan kehendak-Nya.
An abomination to Yahweh, is the way of the lawless, but, the pursuer of righteousness, he loveth.
10 Orang yang melakukan yang jahat akan disiksa; orang yang tak mau ditegur akan mati.
There is, grievous correction, for him that forsaketh the right path, He that hateth rebuke, shall die.
11 TUHAN tahu dunia orang mati dan seluk beluknya; mana mungkin pikiran manusia disembunyikan dari Dia? (Sheol h7585)
Hades and destruction, are before Yahweh, how much more then, the hearts of the sons of men. (Sheol h7585)
12 Orang yang suka menghina tidak suka ditegur; ia enggan meminta nasihat dari orang yang bijaksana.
A scoffer, loveth not, one who reproveth him, unto the wise, doth he not go.
13 Hati yang gembira membuat muka berseri-seri; hati yang sedih mematahkan semangat.
A joyful heart, maketh a pleasing countenance, —but, in sorrow of heart, is a stricken spirit.
14 Orang bijaksana mencari pengetahuan; orang bodoh sibuk dengan kebodohan.
The heart of the intelligent, seeketh knowledge, but, the mouth of dullards, feedeth on folly.
15 Orang muram harus terus berjuang dalam hidupnya, tetapi orang yang periang selalu bahagia.
All the days of the afflicted, are sorrowful, but, a cheerful heart, is a continual banquet.
16 Lebih baik sedikit harta tapi disertai takut kepada TUHAN, daripada banyak harta tapi disertai kecemasan.
Better is a little, with the reverence of Yahweh, than great treasure, and disquietude therewith.
17 Lebih baik makan sayur tapi disertai cinta kasih, daripada makan daging lezat tapi disertai kebencian.
Better is an allowance of herbs, and love, there, than a fatted ox, and hatred therewith.
18 Orang yang cepat marah menimbulkan pertengkaran, orang yang sabar membawa perdamaian.
A wrathful man, stirreth up strife, but, he that is slow to anger, calmeth contention.
19 Orang malas akan selalu mengalami kesukaran; orang jujur tidak menemui kesulitan.
The way of the sluggard, is like a thorn hedge, but, the path of the upright, is a raised road.
20 Anak yang bijaksana, menyenangkan hati ayahnya; anak yang bodoh tidak menghargai ibunya.
A wise son, maketh a glad father, —but, a dullard, despiseth his own mother.
21 Kebodohan adalah kesenangan orang bebal, orang bijaksana hidup lurus.
Folly, is joy to him that lacketh sense, —but, a man of understanding, taketh a straight course.
22 Rencana gagal, jika tidak disertai pertimbangan; rencana berhasil, jika banyak yang memberi nasihat.
Plans, are frustrated, for lack of consultation, but, by the multitude of counsellors, shall counsel, be established.
23 Kata-kata yang diucapkan tepat pada waktunya, mendatangkan sukacita.
A man hath joy, in the answer of his own mouth, and, a word in its season, —how good!
24 Orang bijaksana mengikuti jalan mendaki yang menuju kehidupan; bukan jalan menurun yang menuju kematian. (Sheol h7585)
The way of life, is upwards to the prudent, that he may depart from hades beneath. (Sheol h7585)
25 TUHAN akan merobohkan rumah orang yang tinggi hati, tetapi tanah milik seorang janda Ia lindungi.
The house of proud men, will Yahweh tear down, but he will maintain the boundary of the widow.
26 TUHAN benci pada rencana yang jahat; tapi kata-kata yang baik menyenangkan hati-Nya.
An abomination to Yahweh, are the plottings of the wicked, but, with the pure, are sayings of sweetness.
27 Siapa mencari keuntungan yang tidak halal, menghancurkan keluarganya sendiri. Siapa membenci uang sogok, akan hidup bahagia.
He, troubleth his own house, who graspeth with greed, but, he that hateth gifts, shall live.
28 Orang baik mempertimbangkan kata-katanya; orang jahat mengucapkan hal-hal yang keji.
The heart of the righteous, studieth to answer, but, the mouth of the lawless, belcheth out mischiefs.
29 TUHAN mendengarkan apabila orang baik berdoa, tetapi Ia tidak mengindahkan orang yang durhaka.
Far off is Yahweh, from the lawless, but, the prayer of the righteous, will he hear.
30 Wajah gembira meriangkan hati, berita yang baik menyegarkan jiwa.
The sparkling of bright eyes, rejoiceth the heart, Good news, giveth marrow to the bones.
31 Orang yang mengindahkan teguran tergolong orang bijaksana.
The ear that heareth the reproof which giveth life, in the midst of the wise, shall remain.
32 Orang yang tidak mau dinasihati, tidak menghargai diri sendiri; orang yang mau menerima teguran, menjadi berbudi.
He that declineth correction, despiseth his own soul, but, he that heareth reproof, gaineth sense.
33 Takut akan TUHAN adalah dasar pendidikan yang baik; kehormatan didahului oleh kerendahan hati.
The reverence of Yahweh, is the correction of wisdom, and, before honour, is humility.
